All in all, Apo isn't doing too bad. Yes, they've been drafted into a century-long cold war, but at least their post is nearby. Their life and their love is just on the other side of the city. A half-hour's walk, at most.

BigB is just trying to get by. That's all he's ever tried to do. Stay alive, stay fed, and have a good time on the side. Unfortunately, that's really hard these days. Even living out in the boonies of Watcher country, far from the showy losers of this metropolis or that city, even with one of the stablest jobs possible — verifying deputy cape reports — trouble manages to find him and his crew. When the law, and the threats behind it, are so close, so fragile, things escalate quickly.
Regardless of how proud BigB is of his actions, don't let anyone ever tell you they were premeditated. The big one, anyway.

Summary
During her travels, Hornet finds a mysterious shackle meant to bind malfunctioning automatons for future disassembly. Such a discovery would be insignificant — except more and more similar shackles keep appearing around the choral chambers, as if hunting a certain prey.
She's not the only one who has noticed. The Second Sentinel of Pharloom remembers such shackles from ages ago — and if their suspicion is correct, it is not just themselves who is in danger from an old hunter's obsession.
It will take both of their combined strength to combat this unseen foe…
