Work Text:
Tommy and Wilbur were merely young boys, yet they wanted to bang their heads onto a concrete wall. They sometimes wanted to smash their heads and watch the blood seep through their thin skin as they slowly lost conscious of both the world and themselves. They were a little troublesome, but they lived alone. Best friends just living alone in a world filled with regret and war.
“W- Wilbur?” Tommy squeaked out. His throat was dry. They have been traveling for days without any water. Both of the boys felt like they were going to die at any point. They probably would.
“Hm?” Wilbur looked at Tommy. Both boys were exceptionally pale.
Tommy panted out his words, “W- when a- are we- a- are we t- there?” Tommy asked with faithful eyes. Tommy was always faithful when around Wilbur. He trusted him with 150% of his life.
“Tommy, to be h- honest,” Wilbur stopped walking as Tommy went on, “I… I d- don’t know.” When Wilbur finished his sentence, Tommy saw that Wilbur wasn’t beside him. Tommy looked behind him and saw Wilbur standing like a statue as his head faced the dusty ground. Tommy walked back to Wilbur, held onto his shoulders, and gave Wilbur a hug.
“It’s a- alright to n- not know everything, W- Wilbur. Y- You a- aren’t a g- god, ha!” Tommy laughs off.
“I know, Tommy, but… but… I should know everything!” Wilbur whined.
“Do you? Do you r- really need to know everything, Wilbur?” Tommy asks.
“Yes.”
“No, you don’t!”
“Haha, very funny, Toms. Admit it, I- I need to know everything! A- and where h- has t- that gotten you?” Wilbur says as he starts to cry. Tommy and Wilbur continue to “argue” and they break up the hug.
“A friend.”
“NO. It brought you to the middle of a f- freaking desert! W- we’re dying, Tommy. We’re fucking dying. That’s what I brought you into. A p- paradise will never exist when you’re wi- with me, Tommy!” Wilbur screams as his tears act like water. It wasn’t abnormal for them to cry on purpose so they could use their tears as something to drink. But this time, Wilbur didn’t act like his tears were water. He just let them fall like the burdens that he stacks upon himself.
“No, Wilbur! Being w- with you gave me a f- friend,” Tommy assures Wilbur.
Tommy wasn’t sugar coating anything. He meant these words, but Wilbur didn’t believe that. He believed that everyone and everything that follows him will end up dead all because of him and his stupid ways. Wilbur loved Tommy, he did, but he always had a fire that lit inside of him that always told him that Tommy is about to die or got hurt because of him.
“A friend t- that’ll make y- you die, that is!”
“Wilbur Soot, y- you aren’t t- that kind of f- friend.”
“Yeah, right. Watch us d- die in the next three m- minutes! HA. HA. HA.”
“F- fine. Die in three m- minutes w- without me! HA. HA. HA,” Tommy said.
“ I will! Hahaha! Ha. Ha!”
“FINE!! HAHAHAHAHA!!”
“Who’ll d- die f- first?! Y- you, or me, haha?” Wilbur chuckles.
“Probably you since y- you keep c- crying! Ha, ha, ha! Hahahaha!” Tommy laughs.
“I bet i- it’ll b- be me a- as w- well because y- you d- don’t deserve a f- friend like me. Hahahaha!”
“Hahaha, I d- do d- deserve y- you, Wilbur,” Tommy cries whilst laughing.
Both boys are on the ground, cackling like crushing water bottles. Both boys have tears following them, one is of happiness and the other half is of sadness and regret. The two boys laughed as if they were given nitrous oxide and the effects were slowing rushing into their slim bodies. The boys laughed and laughed like they were children once again. They were still considered children, but they felt like happy children. Just like the old days.
“T- Tommy, back in my d- days, I u- used to walk e- eight… m- miles… to…,” Wilbur stopped before he could finish his sentence.
“To where, W- Wilbur? W- where’d you w- walk eight m- miles… f- for?” Tommy asked before his throat closed up on him and he closed his eyes.
Wilbur walked eight miles to find a treasure.
Tommy walked eight miles to find a friend.
The friends walked eight miles together to find death.
