Work Text:

"Let's take a break!" Miyano yawned, stretching out his arms behind him.

"Sure!" Sasaki peeped as he got up "I'll get us some snacks."

The raven-haired boy let himself slide down halfway onto the taller one's soft mattress, lazily tracing his finger over the sheet.

The humming sounds of the house flowed through his ears, gently lulling him.

Sasaki opened the door and immediately noticed the younger boy's posture. He smiled.

Placing the plate of snacks on his desk, he went to sit neck to him, distractingly stroking the sleeping boy's head, enjoying the soft texture of his hair.

Miyano stirred awake and sleepily gazed back at Sasaki.

Sasaki put his hand down, leaning his elbow on the bed.

"Wanna take a quick nap?"

Miyano hummed and moved his face away. Sasaki perked up. He gazed curiously back at the slender boy. Wait. Was that a tiny spark of fussiness he heard in Miyano's voice? He couldn't help but wonder. Oh my god. The tall boy suddenly brought a hand to his mouth, his chest tingling. He held back the squeal making its way up. That's way too adorable! I can't wait to wake up to this every morning...

"Miyaa" The ginger playfully rubbed at the shorter one's head. "Lets take a nap together."

That instantly awakened the calm boy who was certainly not calm anymore. He turned to Sasaki with wide eyes. "Huh?"

Miyano straightened up with a sigh, flattening his hair in shambles "There you go again with that..."

Sasaki laughed. But a part of him wanted his boyfriend to consider it for real. He grew silent, looking at his fingers intertwined.

"But Miya-chan, I think we should definitely take a break and rest, we've been at it for over an hour now."

Maybe he was asking for too much, and being greedy. He really wanted to cuddle and do couple stuff with Miyano. But at the same time he didn't want to bother him with his selfish wants. He wants Miyano to be safe and happy with him after all.

Miyano noticed his boyfriend growing tenser. He leaned over and put a hand over Sasaki's own, slightly confused as to why he looked kind of strained.

"You want to?" The shorter boy inquired, tilting his head.

"Yes - I, I mean... it's - uh" Sasaki looked away and stopped himself short before he could babble anymore nonsense. He slumped over slightly.

Then Miyano remembered. And it all came back to him. How his boyfriend would try to hide his true feelings for fear of hurting him. He didn't want him to feel that way. The slender boy felt a slight twinge at his chest. He never wanted to make Sasaki feel uncomfortable, he promised himself that.

Miyano moved over the bed, as graceful as a cat. He grazed his hand past Sasaki, to sit directly in front of him, folding his legs under, looking down calmly. Sasaki's gaze followed inquiringly.

"Shuumei" Sasaki felt a soft quiver at his name being used that way, with such strong but gentle intensity.

Miyano opened his eyes, and they shone so brightly, it was like the entire galaxy had folded into them.

"I want you to tell me how you feel."

He brought a lean finger up to brush his partner's cheek. "You don't have to be mindful around me. I told you that, remember?" The younger couldn't help but look slightly pained that he couldn't convey his feelings.

But in fact he did.

Sasaki understood. He could feel Miyano's intention, as his eyes slowly widened in realization. And he brought over his hand to Miyano's, now cupping his cheek, a new determined feeling materializing inside him.

"I want to cuddle with you in bed, like lovers do."

It surprised himself. Sasaki didn't think he'd be able to just come out and say it. And yet here he did. All thanks to his boyfriend for caring for him so much. Miya-chan really is amazing...

Miyano smiled so brightly, Sasaki didn't think the sun could appear inside his room, yet here it was. "I want to cuddle in bed with you too Shuumei-san" He put his hand back down in relief, glad that Sasaki looked happy again. A slight proud feeling gained his heart as he realized he was able to convey his feelings after all.

"Okay." Sasaki smiled back and leaned in to kiss Miyano's forehead. Miyano squinted in pleasure.

"Well then," Sasaki moved back and gestured dramatically to the bed, a playful grin appearing on his lips. "Shall we?"

"As usual, you get straight to the point." Miyano huffed and mumbled.

"No time to waste, as they say."

"What are you talking about..." Miyano blushed self consciously, fiddling with his jeans. He'll never get over how straightforward his boyfriend is when he does speak his mind.

Sasaki laughed. "Sorry" I'll try not to tease him too much, he told himself. I just want to enjoy my time with him.

Miyano climbed back into Sasaki's bed, feeling slightly embarrassed. It was the first time they'd do anything on his bed so... he couldn't help notice his heart pounding slightly louder than usual.
Sasaki casually climbed in too. Half sitting on his side, one hand on his waist, leaning on the palm of his other hand. He smiled sweetly at Miyano who had settled comfortably on his side too, both his hands under Sasaki's pillow enjoying its fluffy texture. He wouldn't admit it, but he loved fiddling with his boyfriends belongings, because its sweet scent would always comfort him.

"We don't have to cuddle. We can just lie next to each other." Sasaki voiced, gingerly pushing a strand of Miyano's hair behind his ear.

"I do wanna cuddle." Miyano stated, looking directly into Sasaki's auburn eyes. He really did enjoy his boyfriend's affection. And in fact, whenever Sasaki would restrain himself, Miyano couldn't help but notice that he misses all the free hugs and kisses that he gets. Though he'd never admit it out-loud. If Sasaki knew, he'd never stop teasing him about it. Miyano chuckled inwardly at the thought.

"Okay," Sasaki leaned in closing the distance between them. He gently wrapped his arms around Miyano's torso as he laid next to him. Miyano immediately mirrored his movement by also hugging him back, his smaller hands placed on the taller one's shirt from behind. His breath slowed as his body melted into the orange hair's warmth. Sasaki shifted his fingers to wrap them around the back of Miyano's head, loosely tracing the different strands of hair in a rhythmic movement. Tenderness poured through Miyano. He really did love this. So he decided to close what little gap was left between them. He moved his head to rest it on the nape of Sasaki's neck, and shifted his legs, one leg over Sasaki's own. Now their bodies touched completely, from head to toe. Sasaki couldn't help but softly squeeze Miyano and kiss his head in response. He was of course also filled with immense love for his boyfriend, he needed to express it too.

The warm feeling poured into Miyano's chest like a breeze running through the sky. The comfiness of the mattress made it feel even more like he was resting on a cloud. With each other's comfort, they lulled into the pleasant realm of dreams.

Miyano awoke. He couldn't recognize where he was as it was heavily misty, despite it being a nice day. A bluebird flew by him, holding a red ribbon. It steadily fell into his hand and Miyano looked down at it curiously. It was very thin. Now that he could get a closer look at it, it seemed to look more like a string than a ribbon.

"Heyy! Mister!" A young boy ran up to him, waving and breathing out puffs of clouds despite it not being especially cold out. He placed his hands on his knees when he stopped in front of Miyano. When the little boy caught his breath he tilted his head up to the raven-haired one standing in front of him and grinned. "That's mine. Thanks for catching it!"

Miyano's eyes widened at the amazing resemblance this boy had to his one and only. Despite not having orange hair, everything about him; from his toothy smile to his big auburn eyes, even to the shape of his face, it all looked so familiar.

He leaned down and handed him the string. "You're welcome." Their hands brushed as the boy took it, which sent a curious tingling feeling through Miyano, as if his intuition was telling him 'yes, you're right, it is him'.

"By the way, what's your name?" Miyano thought it'd be a good idea to ask, to see how far the resemblance went.

"Shuumei Sasaki!"

Miyano was lost for words. He honestly didn't know how to react to such an encounter.

"Shuumei...kun?"

-

Sasaki opened his eyes to see white mist all around him. He was about to start looking around to see if he could determine where he was, when he heard the sound of a child crying. He turned to it, feeling concerned. It seemed that he wasn't the only one lost here. He slowly walked towards the sound, careful not to walk into anything as he couldn't clearly see where he was going.
He found the child. A little boy was curled up in a ball, his hands covering his face. He had dark hair and a pale complexion.

"Hey..." Sasaki started, soothingly. "Why are you crying? Are you lost?"

The boy looked up at him, and Sasaki's heart immediately skipped a beat. Finding a lost boy in the middle of nowhere was already surprising. But finding one that looked exactly like his boyfriend was a whole other kind of surprise. His big round dark sapphire eyes looked back at Sasaki in worry.

"I lost my ribbon.."

Sasaki tried to rationalize this coincidence as best as he could, and focus his attention on the matter at hand instead. He patted the little boy's head reassuringly.

"Then do you want to look for it together? I'm sure it can't be too far."

"You'll help me?"

"Of course!"

The little boy smiled brightly at Sasaki. "Thank you so much Mister!"

-

"What is it?" The little Sasaki inquired, tilting his head to the side. "You look confused."

"Ah, no" Miyano waved his hand. "It's nothing..." He was about to dismiss it, but something tugged at the back of his mind that he probably shouldn't. So he continued.

"It's just, you look very much like the person I'm closest to. So it took me by surprise." Miyano explained.

"The person you're closest to?" Little Sasaki replied in amazement, eyes sparkling. "So the person you love?" He was leaning forward in anticipation.

"Yes. The person I love very much." Miyano put a hand on his chest, remembering the soft embrace of his boyfriend. "He means the world to me." He whispered.

"That makes me so happy!" The little boy beamed. Then turned to Miyano and said "I love you too Mister!"

"You can just call me Miyano."

"I love you too Miyano!"

He wasn't sure how to feel about the little version of his boyfriend telling him this, so he had to ask.

"Why?"

"Because you seem like a very nice and caring person, so I love you!"

Miyano quietly chuckled at how even then his boyfriend was so honest and open about his feelings.

"That makes me happy too."

-

Sasaki held the little boy's hand as they walked along the misty road. It wasn't long before Sasaki spotted a red glint near the sidewalk and went up to it.

There it was. Though he couldn't help notice that it looked more like a string than a ribbon.

"We found it!" Little Miyano exclaimed and went to grab it, holding it closely to his chest.

Sasaki knelt down next to him, with a fond smile.

"The ribbon must be very important to you."

"Yes, it reminds me of the person I love the most."

Sasaki couldn't help but feel warm in his heart hearing little Miyano say these words.

"Do you have someone you love too?" Little Miyano asked.

"Yes. I have someone I love very dearly. And I'm so grateful to have met them." Sasaki placed his hand on his chest, cherishing the feeling.

"That makes me very happy!" The little boy responded, smiling so brightly back at Sasaki.

-

"Well, I gotta head back now." Little Sasaki said. "It was nice meeting you Miyano!" He gave Miyano a quick hug then ran towards where he had come from, waving back as he ran. "I hope we can meet again someday!"

"I'm sure we will," Miyano answered back, calmly waving back at the boy until he was out of sight and it was just him surrounded by the mist.

-

"I need to go now Mister"

"You can just call me Sasaki."

"Okay! I need to go now Sasaki" Little Miyano said as they both stood up. He went to give Sasaki a quick hug then ran in the opposite direction. He stopped and twirled around after a few steps and called out "I hope we'll meet again!" He waved his hand eagerly.

"We will! I promise." Sasaki answered, waving back, a big grin adorning his face. And with that the child left.

-

Miyano stirred in Sasaki's arms, slowly waking up. He felt the slow rise and fall of Sasaki's chest who he guessed was still asleep. There was no reason to leave the comfort of his embrace however. They didn't have anywhere they needed to be, and Miyano wanted to stay like this a little longer. So he snuggled deeper into Sasaki's arms, a soft smile on his lips.
A faint red glow trailed from his pinky, around his waist, flowing up to Sasaki, wrapping around Sasaki's mid and torso, trailing back through to Miyano waist, glistening back up to Sasaki's shoulders, to finally end on Sasaki's hand and pinky finger which was wrapped around Miyano's head.

The red string connected the two souls to form one unbreakable bond.

I wanted to write a red-string of fate story, so here it is.
