Summary
The small golden button had caught Ed’s eye by surprise one day on the deck of the ship. It had been caught between two boards on the deck, dangling dangerously and threatening to fall were it not for Ed rescuing it from its almost fall.
It was beautiful, thick with a bright gold shine. On the front face of the button, there had been a ship embossed, a large sailing ship with the sails full of wind. Despite the fact the button was no larger than his thumbnail, there was enough detail in the boat that it gave off an air of power, success, and wealth.
Ed knew immediately that it belonged to Stede.
