“Yeah dude! They got me a cat!”
“Awesome! They seem like really cool parents.”
“Yeah! They are really cool. I think they wanna adopt me too.”
“No way! I wish I could get adopted by Doctor Strange and The Scarlet Witch!”
“Guess it pays off when you’re Spider-Man.”
Peter said proudly. They walked down to the subway, scanned their cards and waited for the train to come. Peter was practically jumping up and down with joy. He was excited to see his cat, and his parents. He missed them all throughout the day.
He and Ned waited, talking about the avengers, Peter’s new baby sister that was gonna be born, and just random things that came to mind. It took awhile for the train to come. Once it did, Peter and Ned got on and rode home.
Ned was the first to get off, saying a quick goodbye to Peter. Peter was alone for the rest of the ride. He played on his phone, listened to music, and overall just relaxed until his stop came up. He hopped out the train, putting his airpods away and walking home as fast as he could. He couldn’t wait to see Pilot, his mom, and his dad.
He quickly made it to the Sanctum and opened the door with the special key Stephen had given him. It was the only other way to open the door, besides magic or something. As much as Peter begged to learn magic, Stephen never really taught him.
“Mom! Dad! I’m home!”
Peter called out. He looked around and didn’t see anyone. He heard a meow, and looked down to see Pilot rubbing against his leg. Peter picked her up and kissed her head. He loved Pilot.
“Hiya girl. Where’s mom and dad?”
Pilot only meowed, the bell on her collar jingling ever so slightly. Peter sighed and put her back down. He threw his bag down, and untied his shoes before slipping them off.
He ran upstairs to his parents room. They were both fast asleep. Wanda was leaning against Stephen’s shoulder, and Stephen’s arm was wrapped tightly around her. Peter smiled and crawled into bed with them. He laid in between them, making sure to not press up against Wanda’s stomach too much.
He closed his eyes, feeling warm and loved. He was incredibly tired from school, and honestly just wanted to eat, sleep, and shower.
“Spidey?”
Peter opened his eyes, and smiled at Stephen who was starting to wake up. Stephen yawned, sitting up as best as he could. He didn’t want to wake Wanda up.
“How long have you been home for?”
“Not long.”
“Are you hungry?”
“Mhm.”
“Anything you’re craving?”
“Uhhhh…. I’m fine with whatever, dad.”
“Alright. Make sure not to wake your mother up.”
“I won’t.”
Stephen got out of bed, stretching his arms up and sighing. His cloak came to rest against his shoulders as he walked downstairs tiredly. Peter scooted towards where he was laying, just so Wanda could have more space.
Peter blinked tiredly, before deciding he wanted to eat first before taking a nap. He gave Wanda’s cheek a kiss, and went on his way downstairs to the kitchen. He was starving. School lunch wasn’t exactly… edible, per say.
When he made it to the kitchen, Stephen already had food for him. Peter gasped excitedly and went to grab a soda from the fridge as his drink. When he sat at the table, he noticed just how tired Stephen looked. The bags under his eyes really gave it away. He was leaning against his hand, the cloak wrapped around him like a blanket.
Peter opened his soda, took a long sip and watched as Stephen sighed tiredly.
“Dad? Are you okay?”
“No, Peter. I’m not.”
Well that was new.
“What’s wrong?”
Peter asked softly. The last thing he wanted was for Stephen to be mad at him. Stephen sighed again , rubbing his face with his shaking hands.
“Tony wants to take you away from us.”
Oh.
Oh…
Peter wasn’t expecting that at all. He dropped his fork he was holding, eyes opened in disbelief. Stephen looked like he wanted to cry. Which was weird, Stephen never cried. He was a tough guy, and he just… never showed any form of sadness. Peter swallowed thickly, lips pressed together and hand falling onto the table. There was silence between them.
“… What’s gonna happen?”
“We don’t know. I tried talking to him but… he said how we were having a kid and we couldn’t take care of you…”
“H-he doesn’t even make time for me anymore! I-I can’t go with him!”
“Me and Wanda… are trying our best… Wanda said she would give up the baby and,-“
“No! No! T-that’s your kid!”
“So are you.”
They both paused. Peter’s throat felt tight, and he blinked back tears. He didn’t wanna be taken away! He loved Wanda and Stephen, they even got him a pet to care for! This was his life. He couldn’t be taken away from them so soon.
And by the look of it, Stephen didn’t want to let Peter go either. What did Wanda think of all this? She had to be upset if she offered to give her biological kid up.
Peter stared down at his food, some tears beginning to stream down his face. He wiped them away quickly, lowering his head so that Stephen wouldn’t see. Stephen noticed though. He got up from his chair and went to hug the boy. Peter hugged him back, eyes closed tightly together. Stephen kissed his head, and brushed his hair back.
“I-I don’t wanna go… p-please, don’t l-let me go..”
“I don’t know what to do, Peter… me and Wanda are trying our best..”
“B-but mister Stark can’t…. H-he can’t take me a-away…”
“I don’t know Peter… I don’t know what to do…”
Peter started to let out sobs by this point, and it all broke Stephen’s heart. He couldn’t lose Peter, or his new kid he was about to welcome into the world. He wanted to have both his kids around.
“We’ll try talking to him again, because Peter.. I know we don’t say it often, we love you. And honestly, we were happy that you came into our lives…”
Peter’s grip on Stephen’s cloak got tighter. Stephen was holding Peter’s head close to his chest. They didn’t hear Wanda coming in.
“Stephen? Spidey?”
They let go of each other, and Wanda looked just as sad and heartbroken as Stephen. Peter ran over to her. She pulled him in closely.
“I-I don’t wanna go…”
That made Wanda break down.
—————————
“You’re being an asshole, Tony. Not only are you stressing Wanda out, you’re just… being a dick.”
“You don’t understand! None of you do! They can’t raise Peter!”
“Why? They’re doing a good job now, they’re still gonna care for him even after Wanda had her baby.”
“I won’t allow it. Peter can’t be raised by them and,-“
“Are you adopting him?”
“I can’t, I’m busy.”
“Okay, so why take him away? Wanda and Stephen wanna adopt him. They’re a lil’ family.”
“ENOUGH! I’m doing what’s best for the Avengers, and what’s best is,-“
“Getting rid of Spider-Man?”
That actually made Tony pause. Natasha smirked ever so slightly, knowing she had him backed into a corner. The rest of the Avengers(except for Wanda, Stephen, & Peter who were at home) were also here. No one understood why Peter being raised by Wanda and Stephen bothered him so much. They were all happy.
The only one who had a slight problem was Steve, who was still completely head over heels for Wanda, but he didn’t push it. He wanted to see her happy, and she was happy with Stephen.
But someone that wasn’t happy… Tony. God, he was just so rude now. He hated when Stephen, Wanda, and Peter were all together. Tony was just coming up with lies about them, and kept trying to stir Peter away from what he now considered family.
Tony cleared his throat and glared at Natasha.
“He will still be Spider-Man.”
“Not if he’s in the foster care system. Don’t you think it’s best that Wanda and Stephen adopt him? Why are you so worked up over it? Literally, they’re doing what none of us could’ve,-“
“Natasha, I swear to god..”
“Dude, Tony, I love you and all but… just let them be.”
“She’s right, Tones.”
Bruce joined in. Tony rubbed his temples. This idiots… why couldn’t they just…
Why was he doing this? Why was he tearing apart Peter’s family? He didn’t even remember. He just said it, and Stephen looked… sad. Devastated. His eyes seemed to turn dark and he quietly walked away.
Tony didn’t even remember why he started this.
—————————
“Are you gonna try to talk to him?”
“I don’t know… he hasn’t responded to my calls at all..”
Wanda lifted up Stephen’s head, looking into his blue eyes that seemed to darken ever so slightly. Wanda kissed his lips softly, her fingers slightly caressing his cheek. Stephen’s arm came to hold her close. He rubbed the arm, kissing her head as he pulled her slightly into his lap.
“Stephen, I… I already said I’d get rid of my kid,-“
“Wanda, no… we can come up with something… we just need time,-“
“Tony won’t give us time. Wanda, don’t you understand? We could lose Peter and,-“
A kiss silenced him.
Stephen sighed, kissing Wanda back and moving a hand towards her own. Their fingers interlocked together.
When they pulled away, Wanda pressed their foreheads together.
“We’ll figure something out…”
