Of course.
Of course Nacht Faust would reunite with Yami Sukehiro on the battlefield.
And then that bastard had the nerve to save his life.
That asshole.
That asshole that happened to be his damn ex.
Or was he his ex? They never broke up officially, Nacht vanished from Yamis life for years to be a spy in Spade.
But now that this was over and the war in spade was won and Nacht decided to life with the Black Bulls, what was he going to do?
Well, for now nothing.
Yami treated him normal. Like a friend and welcomed him with open arms.
Damn him.
But Nacht was fine with that.
And the thing is..he still loved Yami.
No matter how much he tried to tell himself that he doesn’t, that he hates Yami, he loved him. With his whole being.
With everything Nacht had.
They started to date when they were both only 16 years old.
They were awkward teenagers back then who fell in love with each other.
Nacht sighed and looked out of his window. It was barley dawn.
Another almost sleepless night.
His devils were still curled up against him and fast asleep.
Nacht smiled. They were his only source of comfort in spade, keeping him warm in the coldness of spade. And kept him to drown in his loneliness completely.
He was lonely for so many years but Nacht knew that was what he deserved after what happened with Morgen. A life in the coldness without any warmth, drowning in loneliness.
And Yami still wanted him even after Morgen died and Nacht explained how it happened.
Though, their relationship got a lot harder after that because of Nachts self hatred, guilt and self blame.
But Yami stayed by his side.
Nacht always asked himself how he deserved a man like Yami.
A man who loves so unconditionally and cares so deeply.
Nacht sighed.
A knock on the door.
„Oi, you awake?“
Yami.
„I am. Give me a moment, please“ Nacht replied.
„You can say please? I‘m surprised“ he could basically hear the shiteating grin on Yamis face.
That asshole.
„Shut your damn mouth or I‘ll do it for you, you moron“ Nacht sneered.
„Uhh, I‘m so scared“ Yami snickered.
Nacht rolled his eyes. „Grow up, idiot. And now leave me alone, so I can get ready“
He heard Yami going away from his door.
Nacht took a deep breath. Yami loved to get under his skin.
A short while later, Nacht headed downstairs.
It was surprisingly quiet. Everyone was still recovering from the war with the devils, which was understandable.
He saw Magna and Luck cuddled up against each other and fast asleep on the couch.
A few couples found each other after the war with the devils.
Magna and Luck, who were in love with each other since a very long time but only got together recently after the war with the devils, which surprised no one.
Yuno and Asta, also to no ones surprise.
And, and that was very surprising, Finral and Zora Ideale.
Well, sometimes things happened.
He looked around in search for Yami.
He was nowhere to be found.
Nacht felt his mana on the toilet. Of course.
Nacht sat himself next to the sleeping couple.
„GOOD MORNING, VICE CAPTAIN NACHT!“ Asta came into the common area and greeted him.
„Sssh“ Nacht sushed Asta and pointed to Magna and Luck, who thankfully didn‘t wake up from Astas yelling. „But good morning to you too, Asta“
Asta only grinned. „Man, it’s crazy that 3 couples got together after we won against the devils. I guess when you’re in a situation like that you realize that life is too short, so you just confess. Even when it was Yuno who confessed to me“ a big grin appeared on the boys face.
Nacht tried not to flinch. „true but you accepted it. But who knew that Zora and Finral had a thing for each other? Everyone is still shocked about that. Magna and Luck and you and Yuno surprised nobody though“
„Yeah, that was kinda surprising. But they kinda fit together. Anyway, I‘m out training!“ with that, Asta stormed out.
Nacht shook his head. That boy was so energetic, it was unbelievable.
He remembered that day Yami and him got together…
„Nii - San, when will you tell Yami that you are in love with him?“ Morgen said, looking at his brother.
„Huh?“ Nacht asked in confusion. „I am not in love with Yami! You are talking bullshit!“
„Of course not“ Morgen couldn’t hide the sarcasm. „This is why you look at Yami as if he hung the moon and the stars“ a giggle escaped his lips. „I‘m your twin, Nacht. You can’t hide anything from me“
Nacht rolled his eyes and huffed in annoyance. „Damn. I hate that you know me that good.“
„So, I‘m right“ a satisfied grin on Morgens face.
„Ugh. You might be“
„I knew it.“ Morgen giggled again „so, if you and Yami meet later, tell him how you feel, I am sure his response will be positive“
„Who says I am gonna confess? You mellowed him out and he joined the magic knights because of you and I‘m a delinquent so who knows if he even wants me“ Nacht sighed.
„Just do it. Or are you a coward, nii - san?“ Morgen grinned.
Oh. He did not.
„Excuse me? Are you challenging me?“ the blonde narrowed his eyes. #
„Maybe?“
„I hate you, Morgen“
„No, you don’t“
Well. He was right.
A while later, Yami came over.
His parents were gone and Nacht was thankful for that.
„I still can’t believe that you really joined the magic knights. The robe doesn’t suit you, Yami“ Nacht rolled his eyes again.
„Deal with it. You can join us, too. Do something good for this kingdom and it‘s people“ the boy suggested.
„Never“ Nacht replied.
„Well, your loss. You are a talented mage with a large amount of mana and you could do a lot of good things with your magic“
Nacht tried not to blush at the compliment.
„You are starting to talk like Morgen. Stop it“ Nacht poked Yami in the chest playfully.
Yami grabbed his wrist softly.
„Do I?“
Nacht swallowed thickly because Yami was so close and just a little bit more and then their lips would meet and then…
Before Nacht could think any farther, he felt a pair of soft lips against his own.
Yami kissed him!
Nacht closed his eyes and their lips started to move against each other, totally in sync, as if they were made for each other.
After they pulled away for air.
„U-um..Yami..y-„
Yami just put his fingers on his lips.
„Don‘t say anything. This is something I have been wanting to do for a while now“
The way Yami looked at him..so fond, and with so much warmth in his eyes, Nacht swore he‘d melt away on the spot.
Nacht hit him playfully in the chest and then hide his face in it.
„Idiot.. but..same. Does that mean we are..well..a couple now?“ his words sounded a bit muffled duo to the fact that his face was hidden in Yamis chest.
A laugh erupted from Yamis chest and Nacht could feel the vibration.
„You think I‘m kissing you without wanting to date you?“
The kiss that Nacht gave Yami was reply enough.
Since that day, they have been a couple.
And Yami always looked at him with the same fond and warm look since they werde teens.
„Vice Captain..?“
A sleepy voice reached his ears and he looked at Magna, who rubbed his eyes sleepily. Luck was still fast asleep, clinging to him.
„Oh, good morning“ Nacht said.
The common era started to fill slowly as more and more members came.
It got louder and the ruckus started.
Yami came back from the toilet a short while later.
Nacht looked at him and then away.
He wanted to run up to Yami and smash their lips together. But he restrained himself.
„Morning brats. Damn, I told you all to rest and you cause the usual ruckus.“
But Nacht saw the light smile on the mans lips. He knew Yami loved those kids a lot and he was happy that they all survived this.
„Morning, vice Captain“ Yami turned to him and..again. The fondness and warmth in his eyes, which makes Nacht melt into a poodle of goo.
„Good morning, Yami“ Nacht smiled. It was a geniue smile.
„I missed your smile. The real one, I mean. It looks so pretty on you“ Yami said casually, taking a long drag from his cigarette.
Did Yami just shamelessly flirt with him in front of the whole squad?!
He did. Nacht saw their confused faces.
But Yami didn‘t say anything, he just sat down and started reading his newspaper.
Finral gave Vanessa a knowing look. She nodded.
They both saw immediately that there was something going on between their Captains.
„Huuuh? What does that mean?“ Asta asked, oblivious and confused.
Nacht shook his head. „Ah nothing, Asta. Don’t think too much about it, okay?“
The boy nodded. „O-okay, vice captain!“
A short while later, the table was filled to the brim with food. Breakfast.
Nacht really dug in. It has been long since he had good food, so he enjoyed every meal.
„You have something there“ Yami suddenly said and Nacht felt Yamis thumb run along the corner of his mouth.
His breath hitched. „T-thank you“ is all Nacht was able to choke out.
Yami behaved so shamelessly today, all of sudden.
The others stared dumbfounded at them.
Nacht coughed and finished his breakfast and he excused himself. Nacht used his shadow magic to reach his room.
He was utterly and totally confused. It was as if they have never been apart from each other.
He recalled the day, he was going to Spade.
Nacht packed his bags. So Spade. A mission that could take him many years, so he has been told by Julius.
But Nacht wanted that mission. He wanted out of Clover, away from the painful memories.
Away from Yami.
He knew that he didn’t deserve Yami, that man that loved him so much, who gave him so much warmth.
„You really think you can just go?“
Yamis voice reached his ears.
Nacht turned to him. „Well, no. Yami..please don’t make this harder than it already is“
Yami wrapped his strong arms around Nachts slim waist. „Nacht… I love you and I‘ll terribly miss you. Please just promise me one thing“
„What?“
„Please don’t die. It’s enough that Morgen died but losing you would be the worst thing that could happen. You are the only thing in this world I can’t live without, Nacht Faust.“
Nacht swallowed thickly. „I try not to. But you are aware we won’t be seeing each other for a long time, right? I don’t even know if our relationship can even work like that, Yami“
„That doesn’t matter. I‘ll wait for you, no matter how long it takes.“
„I hate you..“ Nacht whispered under tears. He grabbed his bags and disappeared into one of his shadows…
That was their last interaction before their reunited on the battlefield.
Suddenly, a knock on his door. „Vice-Captain Nacht? Can I come in?“
Asta.
„Come in“ he called.
In the next moment, the boy came into his room and closed the door behind himself.
„So.. um…I think you should talk to captain Yami“ the boy spluttered out without warning.
Nacht narrowed his eyes. „Why should I?“
„Because it’s obvious that something is happening between you guys. You know, we all learned after the fight with the devils that life is too short. You almost died. I saved you once and then Captain Yami did. Then you and Yami both almost died. Isn’t that reason enough?“ Asta looked at him.
Damn that boy.
„Y-you..you are right, Asta. The truth is that Yami and I..well I don’t know if we are still a couple but.. we used to date before I started my mission in spade. We never officially broke up though“
Asta smiled. „Then that is even more reason to talk to him! You both deserve to be happy.“
Nacht nodded. „Thank you, Asta. You grew so much the past months. I am proud of you“
The boy beamed at him. „Thank you sir!“
With that the boy left the room.
It was evening and the base has become quiet as everyone headed to bed.
Nacht knocked on Yamis door.
„Come in“ Yami grunted.
Nacht stepped inside the room.
„We..should talk“ he stated.
„Damn right, we should.“ Yami agreed.
Nacht sat down on Yamis bed. „So..what is this between us?“
„Well, what do you think it is, Faust? You really think we aren’t a couple anymore? Damn, I still love you. And I almost lost you. The thought of losing you.. I told you back then that you are the only thing in this world I can’t live without and that point still stands“
„Y-yami…“ Nacht swallowed thickly. „You know…when I heard that you got taken..I was so scared that you will die. Because I can’t live without you either, you moron“
„The day you left for spade..it was one of the worst days in my life. And we didn’t see each other for such a long time after that. I really missed you..“
Nacht heart aches because Yami looked so vulnerable. He has never has never seen Yami like that before.
„I am sorry, Yami. I think I used it as an excuse to run away from everything. From Clover and the painful memories and…from you.“ Nacht admitted.
„I thought so. Our relationship kind of went downhill after Morgens passing. Because you couldn’t stop blaming yourself no matter how many times I told you that it wasn’t your fault, at least not completely. I feel like I should have done more. Maybe I should have taken you to a professional who could have helped you better than me back then.“
„We were both young and stupidm huh? Just answer me a question: do you still love me, Yami?“
Yami looked at him as if he has gone insane. „You think I would say such things and flirt shamelessly with you in front of the brats if I wouldn’t love you?“
That was answer enough for Nacht.
In the next moment he crashed their lips together.
Yami was a little taken aback from the kiss but returned it quickly.
It was headed and it didn’t take long till their tounges battled for dominance.
Clothes landed on the floor and soft moans were heard another while later.
They laid cuddled up in Yamis bed, Nacht using Yamis chest as a pillow, his hair opended and he probably looked very disheveled but he didn’t care.
„Hey Nacht?“ Yami spoke.
„Hm?“ Nacht replied. He was about to doze off.
„Happy birthday. There is something I have been wanting to ask you for a long time now“
„What is it?“ Nacht asked confused.
Suddenly, a velvet box appeared in front of his face, it hold a beautiful ring.
„You know I suck at things like that so…wanna become my husband?“ Yami asked.
Nachts breath hitched. „Yes“
Yami smiled and put the ring on Nachts finger.
„You are so beautiful in the moon light.“
Yami pressed a soft kiss to Nachts lips.
„I love you“ Nacht spoke the words he hasn’t said to Yami in so many years.
„I love you, too. And I‘m glad that you are still alive and you are in my arms now. Breathing, being a pain in my ass but I wouldn’t trade you for the world“
„You moron. Who was the one who was taken to be sacrificed to open the gates of literal hell? Be glad that I helped them rescue you..but I am glad you survived as well. And by the way, you can thank Asta that I came up to you too talk“ Nacht stated.
„Asta? Why the brat?“ Yami was confused.
Nacht told him.
„The brat has become so grown suddenly. And wise..who would have known? I guess the war against those damn devils changed them.. a lot.“
Nacht could hear the fondness in Yamis voice.
„Hmh..“ was all Nacht said, he was on the brink of falling asleep.
He just felt a pair of lips on his forehead and in the next moment he fell asleep with a smile on his lips and to the sound of Yamis heartbeat in his ear.
He is home now.
