Chapter Text
Duke Thomas AKA Signal AKA Probably the most mentally stable Gotham vigilante (which really isn’t saying much) AKA Glow-boy (Steph makes horrible nicknames) was going on a vacation.
Well, not technically a vacation, but close enough.
His sociology class was participating in a “culture exchange”, which translated to traveling to a small town in Illinois for a month to learn about culture differences, and helping the other sociology class when they came to Gotham the month after.
Duke loved his family, and he loved being a vigilante.
But he really needed a break.
He wasn’t a damn workaholic like the rest of the bats, capable of keeping their civilian life together and training and flawlessly protecting the city and somehow still getting enough sleep.
Some might argue ‘But Duke, Tim constantly looks three seconds away from collapse and he barely even remembers to feed himself!’
To which Duke would respond with the fact that Tim is an outlier and probably could sleep if he actually wanted to, but apparently the masochist likes having more coffee than blood running through his veins at any given moment.
Being a high school student was hard enough, but add vigilante work on top of that? Duke was kind of surprised the only stress related ailment he had gained in the past few years was an eye twitch.
Thank god for a meta-gene reinforced immune system.
(Duke was kind of surprised Bruce hadn’t had a stroke in all his years as Batman. He was pretty sure the man didn’t know the definition of the word relax.)
Either way, Duke was very content with his much needed vacation.
No hero work, less school work, and a month in a relaxing small town with a startlingly low crime rate. (Maybe it was just startling to Duke because he lived in Gotham, AKA crime city.)
Duke sighed as he relaxed into his seat on the bus, looking out the window and relaxing at the seemingly endless and unproblematic rows of crops that covered his view.
The town they were going to was small, with only one high-school that managed to hold every teen in the town.
Duke sighed and leaned his head back, finally allowing himself to begin to doze like all his classmates had started doing at the beginning of the bus ride, after they left at way-too-early o’clock that morning.
He hadn’t been able to sleep at the beginning, paranoid their bus would be caught in an inconveniently timed villain attack and they wouldn’t be able to make it out of Gotham.
Yeah, a month of relaxation would definitely do Duke some good.
After all, what bad and stressful things could happen in the small and inconspicuous town of Amity Park?
