In this world (it's just us)

Summary:

Despite not being the biggest fan of sudden change due to his autism, change seems to be a re-occurring event in Peter 1's life and it's beginning to get to him luckily his brothers are there for him.

Or, Every variation of Peter Parker is neurodivergent

Based on my own experiences :))

Work Text:

Peter has never liked change.

His earliest memory of having a dramatic change in his life was when his parents dropped him off at his aunt and Uncles house without warning saying he would be staying with them for the time being. He hated it, he felt abandoned and unsafe in the new environment. He recalled having intense meltdowns because all he wanted was his mom, his dad, his bedroom and his toys but it was all gone. Aunt May and Uncle Ben didn't know how to handle his meltdowns they didn't even know he was autistic it took a long time for them to get a diagnosis, but it made things a little easier once they did or at least it explained why he was different from other kids.

Recently everything has changed so much so that it was really overwhelming him. Mysterio exposed his identity to the world, a bunch of villains from different universes came to his universe and now he's dealing with two other versions of himself at least until Doctor Strange finds a way to send them and their villains home Peter told him to make everyone forget him but Strange insisted, he could find another way that wouldn't leave Peter totally alone. The worst part about everything that's happened is that he lost Aunt May his last living relative basically his mother grief wasn't a feeling that Peter was unfamiliar with but it felt different this time despite having people around him he felt so lonely like a piece of him was missing and every time he was enjoying himself or feeling slightly relaxed he wanted to beat himself up for having the nerve to be happy without her. He just wanted May to comfort him the same way she always did cover him with his weighted blanket, squeeze him tight and stroke his hair. Oh, he missed her terribly, Peter's also never been good at communicating his feelings not because he didn't want comfort, he just didn't know how to confide in anyone that wasn't May (she could always tell when Peter had something on his mind) so Peter never spoke to anyone, he thought he was managing it though keeping his feelings in check trying to stave off any meltdowns.

Turns out he can only do that for so long.

Living with the other two Peter's had been... interesting to say the least but not bad like Peter 3 had said it was nice having brothers the three were sat in the kitchen making dinner, actually Peter 2 was making dinner Peter 3 and 1 were watching since 2 was by far the better cook (or only cook) out of the three he was making spaghetti simple but something everyone can enjoy it made Peter think of May spaghetti was the only thing she was able to cook without ruining it. The idea of it did slightly bring up those feelings Peter had been trying ever so desperately to push down but hopefully the dish will provide some form of comfort. Peter 1 watched as Peter 2 carefully chose his seasonings and stirred the pot usually Peter was usually sceptical about eating food that was made differently to how he liked it, but Peter 2 says he got this recipe from his aunt so how different could it be right?

"Okay I think this is just about done" Peter 2 announced.

"Finally, I am starving, you sure took your time" Peter 3 teased as he jumped quickly from his seat grabbing some plates.

"Hey, do you want me to rush it, or do you want it to taste good?" Peter 2 defended

"Just kidding man, you know I'm grateful especially since 1 and I can't cook to save our lives" Peter 3 joked. Peter 2 smiled back.

Peters 2 and 3 began dishing up the food Peter 1 cringed a little as he watched Peter 3 put the spaghetti noodles on the plate and the meat sauce on top, he knew that was how people usually ate it, but he preferred them separate he didn't like the texture of them combined. May knew that she would make sure they were separate. Peter internally panicked quietly whining in discomfort Peter 2 looked up at him suspiciously, but Peter 1 had been masking his autistic traits for so long he was able to pretend he was fine until Peter 2 looked back down at the food again. Peter 1 began playing with his hands to calm himself down he hadn't been using his stim toys like he usually does he didn't want the others to laugh, or he think he was weird, Peter had accidentally tuned out his brothers and hadn't been focusing on what they were doing until Peter 2's voice brought his attention back.

"Um... Hey, one tell me when to stop okay"

He looked at what Peter 2 was doing, and he was grating Parmesan cheese onto his spaghetti Peter's breathing hitched he didn't like cheese on anything except pizza really the taste made him nauseous. Aunt May would've known that too.

"W-what are you doing?" He said his voice cracking at the end.

"I was just grating some cheese on your spaghetti, but I didn't know how much you wan-"

"I don't want it" Peter said a little more aggressively that he intended

"O-oh I'm sorry do you not like cheese?" Peter 2 asked gently noticing his distress

"No, he does" Peter 3 said "I've seen him eat pizza"

"I don't like it like that" Peter 1 said his voice getting a little louder as he started breathing heavily

"It's fine I can take off an-" Peter 2 began

"NO, it's ruined I don't want it you changed it" Peter 1 said his repressed meltdown coming in at full force.

"Hey buddy it's alright deep breaths" Peter 3 attempted to comfort him, but Peter 1 flinched away letting out a distressed whine.

"How about I make you something else?" Peter 2 asked

"NO, I DON'T WANT YOUR COOKING I HATE IT" Peter 1 shouted. He didn't actually but he can't really control his feelings during meltdowns.

Peter 2 stepped away from the youngest in shock he didn't know what happened he didn't mean to upset him didn't everybody like their spaghetti that way? Peter 2 subtly snapped his fingers trying to get his breathing under control. Once he felt better, he noticed Peter 1 was tugging on his hair and rocking himself back and forth and now crying softly Peter 3 was panicking trying to get him to calm down, but Peter 1 wouldn't even let the man touch him. It kind of looked like...

Oh!

"three" Peter 2 spoke softly not wanting to stress the youngest out any further "Go find a heavy blanket like... like the duvet on the double bed"

The other Peter nodded and dashed off Peter 2 took a deep breath and approached Peter 1.

"Hey Pete, I understand you're upset right now but I need you to not pull your hair so hard okay"

The other boy whined but tried not to pull his curls as hard.

"Good that's better here" Peter 2 pulled a fidget key chain out of his pocket "You can play with this"

Peter 1 looked hesitant but then he looked up at Peter 2's reassuring eyes let go of his hair and took the key chain twisting it around. His crying now reduced to soft whimpers. Peter 3 came back with the blanket and handed it to Peter 2

"Will it help if you have this?" He asked cautiously.

Peter 1 took the blanket wrapping it tightly around his form.

"Th-thank you" He uttered quietly

"That's okay" Peter 2 said sitting next to him. Peter 3 did the same.

"How do you feel now?" Peter 3 asked

"O-okay I g-guess... Sorry y-you had to s-see me like that"

"Don't say sorry I should say sorry I-I thought everyone had spaghetti that way I should've asked first"

"No, it's fine I shouldn't have lashed out at you I-I really do like your cooking" Peter 1 said as Peter 2 chuckled lightly

"Can I ask you something? don't answer if you don't want to" Peter 2 asked

"Sure"

"Are you autistic?"

Peter 1 hung his head shamefully and nodded gently tears burning in his again.

"Don't be ashamed" Peter 2 said "It's not a bad thing"

"It's easy for you to say"

"Pete..." Peter 2 laughed lightly gesturing to the fidget in his hands.

Peter 1 looked at it then looked back at Peter 2... the fidget, Peter 2 taking Peter 3's joke seriously, the finger snapping earlier.

"Oh" Peter 1 said quietly "You're autistic too?"

"Yeah" Peter 2 confirmed. Peter 1 turned to Peter 3

"What about you?"

"I'm not but I have ADHD" He admitted. Peter 1 just nodded a little lost for words.

"Again, I'm sorry I didn't ask first I should know better" Peter 2 said "But something tells me this isn't just about spaghetti"

"Everything's changing and I don't like it" Peter 1 said softly "I m-miss my aunt so much and she knew how to comfort me and just make everything better and now she's gone" Peter 1 said twisting the key chain

"Why didn't you tell us we could've tried to make things easier on you"

"I-I was scared you'd laugh at me or think I was silly"

"Well, that's understandable" Peter 2 said "I was really scared to tell my best friend Harry"

"How did he find out?" Peter 1 asked

"I struggled with talking to people that weren't my family or friends when I was younger I was going to speech therapy but I would still be non-verbal at times and use sign language and Harry knew I would talk some days and other days I wouldn't so I guess he always suspected but when we were in the 8th grade I had a shutdown in class some of the others started throwing things at me and calling me the R slur I was hardly aware of what was going on and it was upsetting me but my teacher put a stop to it and Harry took me out of the class when he saw I was stimming in a harmful way when I felt better I told him and he was totally cool about he said I was still nerdy Peter Parker" He said smiling softly at the memory.

"You were non-verbal?" Peter 1 echoed

"Yeah, it's gotten better over the years having Harry as my best friend really helped, he'd let me practise talking to others on him. Now I only stop talking if I'm stressed or having my own meltdown or shutdown"

Peter 1 nodded in understanding.

"We love you man it doesn't matter if you have something different about you, you're still our baby bro" Peter 3 said smiling warmly

"Thanks guys" Peter 1 smiled

"Can we touch you?" Peter 2 asked.

Peter 1 thought about and nodded softly.

"Aww I think someone needs a spider-sandwich" Peter 3 teased

"That was so lame" Peter 1 giggled as his brothers wrapped their arms around him from both sides.

After they hugged Peter 2 got another plate and let Peter 1 dish his spaghetti the way he wanted, and they all sat down to eat Peter 1 really did love the spaghetti happily stimming in front of his brothers as he ate who just smiled softly.
