It has been a whole year since they got married. It still feels like it was just yesterday when they found the blue lion. Lance smiles to himself at the memory. It’s funny how much they’ve changed. From two guys who just couldn’t stand each other, to two lovers who can barely stand any separation between them. Now they were husbands. Lance’s smile grows wider as he wonders, if he told past Lance that he was gonna marry Keith Kogane, he would have thrown a fit….or maybe not. He still might have celebrated…anyway, right now? The man in question? The love of his life? His dear husband?
Is not here. He’s off on a stupid blade mission. Which will take another month to complete. It’s already been two months since he last saw him, and now he will have to wait for another month until he can see him again. Ughh, as much as he loves him, he hates that he has to go on so long being away from him, it’s not even a long-distance relationship anymore, it’s a long-distance marriage. But God is it worth it? The moment Keith comes back, he showers Lance with so much affection, it almost gets too much.
And what can Lance do? He’s smitten, and helpless when it comes to his husband.
He sighs. It’s 6 pm in the evening and he just finished a long day of working at the farm and doing house chores. Their home feels a little too empty sometimes. Plus there are clouds in the sky and it looks like it will rain. Now he finds himself yearning for Keith even more. A weather like this and them curled up in blankets? Heaven. Being surrounded by Keith’s arms, especially in cold weather is the best feeling Lance has ever experienced. He can literally feel all the love Keith has for him in those moments. He sighs again, coming back to reality.
Then it starts raining. Great. He stands on their porch, trying to enjoy the cold breeze and the smell of the rain and earth. The fields look beautiful. Everything is perfect…there’s just one thing…one very important piece missing. He can feel the tears well up in his eyes now. Nope, no no no no no…he’s not going to cry. Nope. Heaving another sigh, he takes out his phone from his pocket and calls Keith. At least he can hear his voice right? And maybe Keith will also appreciate the sound of rain. So he dials his number and waits for him to pick it up. After three rings, he hears some shuffling as Keith answers,
“Hey sweetheart”
And yeah…there goes his effort of not crying, he can already feel the tears sliding down his cheeks, oh he feels kinda pathetic now
“babe? You there?” Keith asks when he hears nothing but the sound of rain on the other end.
Lance fails to cover his sniff when he replies with,”h-hey”
“Oh, sweetheart! What’s wrong?” Keith asks, concern filled in his voice
“it’s nothing…I just..miss you”
“hey, I miss you too love”
Sniff “yeah, I know, it’s just…it’s raining and I...I don’t know I just..really really wish you were here..”
“...”
“babe?”
“.…”
“umm, Keith? You there?”
“I guess your wish was granted huh?” Keith huffs, smiling widely.
Lance’s eyes go wide in shock as he turns around, because that sound did not come from his phone!
Right behind him a few feet away is Keith, standing there drenched in rain and smiling at him.
“you-”
“me?”
“you are really here?”Lance asks trembling, maybe from the cold…or maybe from the fear that he might be dreaming
Keith’s eyes go soft at that, he smiles fondly at his husband and spreads his arms in invitation,” I am love.”
Lance takes a deep breath and runs
right into his husband’s arms
Keith laughs as he wraps his arms tight around him and lifts him in the air.
“I missed you sooo much,” he says as he hugs him tighter
Lance smiles at him,” me too, but how did you? Weren’t you supposed to come back in a month from now?” he asks as Keith gently puts him on his feet again, still holding him close.
“yeah about that…I actually just really really missed you and I couldn’t bear being away from you anymore, so I just finished all the main work early and told them to handle the rest themselves…”
“.…”
“Lance?”
“Oh my God come here!” Lance exclaims as he pulls him in by his hood and smashes their lips together.
God he missed kissing Keith.
His husband reciprocates the sentiment in earnest of course. They both sigh into the kiss, just standing there in the rain, in the middle of the fields. With their hands on each other and just, pouring out their love for one another.
When the need to breathe gets stronger than their need for each other, they break apart. Lance rests his forehead on Keith’s, his hand on his nape, keeping him close. They stand there for a few moments, just soaking it all up.
After a while, Keith kisses him on the forehead, then on his cheek, then a small peck on the lips
“let’s go inside?”
Lance nods in agreement and smiles fondly at him. Keith takes his hand and intervenes their fingers as they make their way inside.
After taking a shower and drying each other’s hair, they get changed into comfy soft clothes and get into bed while facing their bedroom window. Just like they always do whenever it rains. The window is huge and gives the perfect view of the fields as rain pours outside.
Lance rests his back against Keith’s chest as Keith wraps him up in his arms. And yeah, this is what was missing.
When the rain stops, they get up to make dinner together in the kitchen.
And finally, their home is complete again.
