It's The Truth

Summary:

Kai and Prince Lloyd have been dating for a bit and decide to get a little comfy.

Notes:

Based in my Royals AU! Lloyd and Kai are adults in the AU without Lloyd going through that wisdom tea shit. Also, this is a rewritten oneshot.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It was a cool summer's night within the Wyvern Empire. The crickets chirped and the fireflies put their beautiful display of flashing lights out for the world to see. The smell of the low tide wafered into the prince's room, but it was pleasant unlike usual. All the other nights the smell was wretched and unbearable that Lloyd had no choice to close his balcony doors, but this time around it was different, and he appreciated that. Lloyd loved it when he could open those doors and allow the ocean breeze to cool down his room in the summer nights where the heat was intolerable. Also, when he could listen to night sounds as well. It was simply perfect in the blonde's opinion but there was something or rather someone missing. Lloyd was missing his boyfriend very much. The fire holder should have been back at his room ten minutes ago, yet here he was still lonely, reading his book.

Lloyd sat up in bed as he placed his bookmark right where he left off reading. He looked out the doors. The breeze shifting pieces of his hair. "Come on, Kai." He muttered, placing his head in his hand. "Where are you?" As if on cue there was a soft knock on Lloyd's door. "Come in." Lloyd called out, looking in the direction of the double doors. The doors opened and Kai poked his head through. His green eyes dazzling up at his boyfriend. "Sorry I'm late." He apologized, walking through threshold and closed the door quietly. Under his arm was a big bag of kettle corn. The blonde was able to smell it once Kai got closer to the bed. His hand passing the young prince the bag. "I managed to smuggle it from the small festival thats going on outside. "There's a festival outside?"

"Um, yeah?"

"It's so quiet out." Lloyd replied, looking out towards the balcony doors. "Interesting." Lloyd muttered to himself before looking up to the spikey haired brunet. "So, are you just going to stand there and stare or-" Kai hummed as a response then sat beside Lloyd. His hand wrapping around his waist as his eyes looked at the book Lloyd was reading. "What's the book about?" Kai asked, tilting his head slightly. Lloyd picked the heavy hard cover book up and laughed uneasily. "This is embarrassing but it's a romance story." He said, flipping through the pages. His pale face flushing just slightly and Kai smirked. "What happens in it?"

"Oh, it's about a husband-and-wife duo who fight crime as vigilantes. One day the mayor of the city captures the wife and locks her away. The husband then goes out of his way to find where his wife was sentenced to and get her out. It's cute really." Lloyd explains with a shrug. "I hope you would do the same for me." Kai's smirk morphed into a full smile as he took the book from Lloyd's hands. His fingers rubbing against the smooth cover. This was obviously a new book and already Lloyd was halfway through it. It was endearing to see his boyfriend be avid about reading. Every time Lloyd was on break Kai would find the green ninja either reading a Starfarer comic or some absurdly massive book. Kai placed the book onto the nightstand nearby before taking Lloyd's face in his hands. "I will always have your back. If you get captured, I will go through hell a million times until I get you back. You're worth so much for me my dear prince."

Lloyd's chest bubbled up with so many happy emotions. "Oh Kai." He sighed, leaning his head into his chest. His face all heated up by the kind words. "You're too much for me sometimes." The blonde laughed, moving his head up to press his soft lips against Kai's. The warmth of his fire holder made Lloyd felt safe. The cold from the breeze outside not able to catch him. "But it's the truth."
