Work Text:

The sound of the pouring rain is deafening but under the cozy warmth of the blanket, it is muted. It is a world of their making, just them.

Safe.

The heat of the body beside him, the arms that tighten its hold, the beating of their hearts that slows and slows and slows.

He feels reassured, he isn't scared. No, he is not afraid. Under this blanket they can pretend, imagine a world of lush trees and green meadows. They are at peace, they have accepted their fates longs ago.

The outside is a desolate place that dying is more bearable than living.

The cold starts to seep in, the howling wind tries to rob them of their cover; invading the haven they cling to. He curls even more, burrowing deeper into his companion's embrace; he kissed the skin in front of him. His lips had gone cold. His fingertips starts to stiffen. He grows warm by the second.

A sob escapes his lips. He isn't scared, no. He cries for the lost chance of a happy life.

"I am here..." his companion whispers, "always..."

"And forevermore," he answers back.

Under the blanket, intertwined so tightly, their lives slowly drains away...

"SOMEWHERE, IN A FARAWAY UNIVERSE"

Huff.

A young man blew hot air into their cupped hands before rubbing them together for warmth. He was standing outside a café to take shelter away from the falling snow.

It is the middle of the winter season and playing outside on the snow is fun for a lot of children (and adults) but not to Kim Dokja. As far as he can remember, he has always disliked the snow. It is a feeling that he cannot explain.

He was born on February 15th in a snowy night, his mother said that his cries were so loud and non-stop that even the doctors and her herself didn't know what to do to make him stop. He was fussy up until the snow stopped falling. Even as he accumulate in age his mother and father can't help but be puzzled for his intense dislike of snow. Whenever it snows Kim Dokja would coop up and stay inside his room; nothing can make him set foot outside in this weather. Now that Kim Dokja is older, his dislike of snow has lessened but his distaste for it lingers.

The first time he ventured out on the snowy terrain with his parents, an inexplicable sense of dread settled over him that not even three minutes later he retreated to the safety of their house. His parents, understandably concerned, accompanied him to a professional (pediatric psychiatrist).

He cannot recall most of their sessions but his parents recounted many things that he said.

Kim Dokja is in an unfamiliar place with his parents. He looked around at the spacious room; there are books upon books in a big shelf and a lot of toys and playing blocks on a large rectangular box below it. The floor is also covered with a plush carpet, soft against his feet. The colors and aesthetic of the place makes him at ease.

'It looks just like kindergarten,' he thinks.

While he was looking around, a kind looking woman approached them.

"Good Morning dear parents," she says as she takes their hands for a shake. Crouching down she said to Dokja, "You must be Dokja, right?"

He nods.

"Why don't you play for a bit while your parents and I talk, hmm?" Without further coaxing, Kim Dokja makes a bee line for the children's book.

Making sure that Kim Dokja is distracted, the lady asked his parents on what seems to be the problem.

"You see, our Dokja doesn't like snow or winter. It may seem silly but he absolutely won't come out of his room when it snows. He refuses to go to school when it snows. Yesterday, we thought that he has overcome his dislike for snow so we accompanied him outside but... not even five minutes later he run back inside. We don't know why he doesn't like snow. He has never had an accident regarding that so..."

"Hmm, that can be a problem if he continues to exhibit this kind of behavior especially if it disrupts his education. Have you both asked him why he doesn't like snow?"

Persephone looked at her husband before she answers, "We tried before but... his answer doesn't make sense."

"He said that he died of cold. He said that snow will bury him alive like it did to many others."
