Work Text:
Luckily Aaron was tired enough not to wake up when my phone started to buzz under my pillow. Without even being fully awaken, I gripped the mobile and as carefully as I was able to, I got out of bed. As Aaron's office was the furthest room from our bedroom, I hid in there to accept the call. It came from Nevada, where the police officers thought they found a connection between some car accidents. They thought those weren't just "simple" car accidents and asked our team to be there as soon as it was possible. I promised we'd discuss the case immediately and would be at the scene by morning.
It took approximately twenty minutes to phone my colleagues. All the six calls went the same. I apologized for the early (late?) call, told the story briefly, then asked them to be at the office in an hour.
I sighed as I closed the door behind me to head back and wake up Hotch. We just came home from the field, yet here we were again. The world really just never ran out from the devil. As I tiptoed to the bed in the dark, I dared to take a glance at the clock. 1:19
I laid back next to my partner, and leaning close I pressed a feather-light kiss on his cheek. My fingers brushed his raven-black hair, slowly massaging his scalp. I wanted to wake him as tenderly as I could, making the last few minutes of peace as perfect as they could be. My kisses slowly traveled down to his lips, then a bit further down to his jaw. When I started the whole circle again and was kissing his cheeks, his eyes trembled, and Aaron started to move.
"Good morning" I breathed into his ear, smiling. I pressed some kisses on his skin again.
"Mmm… it's definitely not morning yet" he hummed.
"It's almost half-past two," I said slowly. Another bunch of kisses.
"Why did you wake me?" he asked in a husky, sleepy tone. I kissed him once again before replying, but I couldn't help but smile at how beautiful the moment was. It was very rare that I could be the earlier to wake up, what's more, it almost never occurred that I had to wake him up.
My right hand cupped his cheek before nudging his face with my nose.
"We've got a new case" I murmured onto his skin, before pressing my lips on the very spot. He sighed deeply, and I knew he immediately switched from being a sleepy husband to a very much awake agent who was ready to save lives. To my great surprise, he didn't get out of bed immediately; he put his palm on my back and pulled me closer instead. I laid down on his chest, his heart drummed into my ear.
"Where?" he asked simply.
"Sherwood, Nevada" I spoke into his PJ shirt.
"Damn" he cursed in a low voice. "Thank God we took Jack to Jessica's."
I just nodded. I rested my palm on his chest too, feeling his thudding heartbeat under it that was the whole life for me. I knew I could trust him with closed eyes, and could anyone who needed our help. I knew he would lead us to solve the case - this made me very awake as well, ready to fight and to work. He let us some more minutes in silence, drawing circles on my skin, but then I felt him take a deep breath.
"Are you ready?" he whispered. I raised up on my elbow to caress his cheek last time.
"For what we are going to see, never. For what we are going to do, always" I answered.
