Work Text:
“I’ve forgotten what the sun feels like.” Viago said, absentmindedly as he stared up at the sky full of stars. Anton looked at where he was looking, his eyes trailing to the bright moon. He then looked at Viago, the two sat thigh by thigh on a bench together by the sea.
“I like the moon more than the sun.” Anton confessed, Viago looked at him with a quirked eyebrow.
“You’re biased because you’re a werewolf.” He pointed out, making Anton chuckle.
“I swear, I’ve always liked the moon better even before I was turned.”
“Really?”
Anton looked back up, searching the infinite sky. “I love the stars that come with it,” He said, pointing a finger suddenly. “There’s the Big Dipper.” His fingers traced through the air to connect the stars.
“Where?” Viago asked, looking around.
Anton leaned in towards him, pointing in hopes Viago could see it from where he was sitting. He noticed Viago’s eyes widened. “I see it.” He smiled.
He lowered his arm, realizing how close he was to Viago. Viago was still staring up at the stars, he looked so beautiful underneath the moon glow.
Anton knew now was the best opportunity to tell him, to tell him how he had been feeling about Viago. Maybe Viago could explain to him that his feelings meant nothing, and he could finally stop overthinking all of it.
Although, he was scared to ruin this moment. He glanced down at Viago’s hand, and the urge finally took over him. He reached out and slowly intertwined their fingers together. Viago glanced down at their hands, but didn’t say a word as he squeezed back reassuringly. Anton realized then, staring out into the sea, that he was sharing an untouchable memory with someone. He had never felt this way before.
The stars shined brightly onto the water, reflecting in Viago’s eyes when Anton looked over at him. He tried to push away the thoughts of confusion and all the questions he had. Why was he feeling this way for Viago, a man, a vampire of all things? He just wanted to forgot all of that, and live in this moment forever.
He felt the cold hand of Viago burning into his warm palm. He was too hyperaware of every movement Viago made, his eyes still on the sea, his mouth slowly agape, his thigh pressing into Anton.
He suddenly cleared his throat, grabbing Viago’s attention. “Suppose we should be going, can’t be nighttime forever.” Anton gave a weak smile, letting go of Viago’s hand abruptly and getting up.
Viago’s expression shifted to one that Anton couldn’t quite make out, the vampire looked down at his empty hand and back up at Anton. “Yeah,” He said, nodding. “Yeah, we should.” The two walked beside each other, Anton’s warm hand now cold without the other.
Anton had stayed away from Viago, he didn’t realize he had been. Subconsciously he knew that focusing on work and the pack more would lead to Viago slipping away from his mind. He thought that could’ve been a good thing. He had too many thoughts on the vampire, thoughts that he didn’t want to share nor talk about.
It had been over a week since they had sat on the bench together under the moon. Anton could still feel Viago’s hand in his. Anton tried to push all that aside, he began to not trust his feelings. He began to hate the way his heart would skip a beat when Viago would smile at him, how he would get flustered every time he leaned in, and anytime he said something and his fangs would appear from his smile.
Anton hated the way he felt about Viago because he couldn’t explain what it was, and that’s what scared him the most.
Maybe he was just terrified, he would not let himself come to terms with possibly having more than platonic feelings for Viago. He could try and hide these feelings as long as he could. At least that was the plan until the wolf pack were invited to the vampires house for a get together.
Anton thought about all the fake scenarios he could say to get out of it. In the end, he didn’t have the heart to not show up. He went with the rest of his pack, forcing a smile as Vladislav opened the door with a grand greeting.
Anton had kept mostly to himself the entire party, having a death grip on a beer bottle the entire time. He had kept a good distance from Viago, he had seen him around, but it seemed he was preoccupied with other things.
Anton excused himself from a deep conversation Nick and Stu were trying to have with him about some video game, and he snuck off into another room where he could find some peace and quiet. He took a deep breathe, looking around the room and seeing all the books and antique trinkets all around.
“There you are,” Anton spun around to see Viago standing in the entrance, Anton wondered if he jumped out the window if Viago would follow after him. Viago walked over to him, a slight frown on his face. “I thought you were avoiding me.”
Anton swallowed hard, and tried to laugh but it came out stiff. “Why would I avoid you?” He questioned, and his voice wavered.
Viago looked at him, he had to of noticed how nervous he was. “Did I do something wrong?” The vampire asked with wide saddened eyes, Anton hated how he made Viago feel.
“No, no…” Anton trailed off, setting his beer aside and walking over to Viago. “It’s me, I’ve been….overthinking too much. Just a lot of stress right now.” He said, hoping Viago wouldn’t push the matter any further.
“You can talk to me if you need someone, you know that.” Viago said, his round eyes made Anton practically weak at the knees.
“Yeah, I know. It’s been all work related and alpha stuff.” Anton lied through his teeth, he hoped that Viago would catch on and realize that he didn’t want to talk about it.
Viago stared at him for a moment, a look of discontent on his face. Anton felt like he needed to say more, to make Viago feel like it wasn’t his fault, it was Anton’s fault for having such confusing feelings about him. Feelings he knew he shouldn’t have been having.
“Come on,” Viago finally spoke, making his way towards the entrance. Anton raised an eyebrow at him. “Let’s go to the beach, it can help clear your head.”
Anton wanted to say no, but he wanted nothing more than to be with Viago again under the moon. Against his better judgment Anton went with him out the door, he assumed the wolfpack could go an hour or two without him.
Anton held his shoes in one hand, feeling the sand on his feet as he walked alongside Viago. He couldn’t help but laugh at a little at Viago’s attire on the beach, he was getting sand trapped through his shoes and clothing. “This was a better idea in my head.” Viago commented, shaking his shoes free of sand.
“It was a good idea.” Anton assured him, and he meant it.
Viago gave him a small smile. “I like to come down here to clear my head, thought it could help you as well.”
“Thank you.”
“You don’t have to tell me what’s going on, but I want you to know I’m always here for you.” Viago said, and Anton couldn’t help but stare into his eyes that made him fall head over heels in the first place.
Anton looked away, flustered as he focused at towards the water. A playful smile was on his lips as he turned to Viago. “Want to do something weird?”
Viago smiled at him, and nodded without knowing what it was. He was taken aback when Anton began taking off his shirt and running towards the water. “Anton! The water is going to be cold!” Viago called after him, but he couldn’t help but laugh.
Anton went into the water, swimming out where his waist was completely submerged. “Werewolves are great at keeping warm! It’s not that bad, come on in!” He gestured towards Viago.
Viago rolled his eyes, but began to unbutton and take off the layers of clothing he had on. He folded them neatly besides Anton’s things and slowly approached the water. “It’s freezing!” Viago complained, barely dipping a toe in.
Anton walked back to him. “Here,” He said, grabbing onto Viago’s hands. “I’ll keep you warm.”
Anton didn’t want to think of all the feelings he had for Viago, he just wanted to be with him. To live in this moment, to share this memory with someone he cared about so deeply. Viago let him lead him into the water till it reached their waists again. Viago shuttered, Anton could feel him shaking.
Anton didn’t ask, he wrapped his arms around Viago’s waist and pulled him close. Their faces were only an inch apart, Viago looked at him with wide eyes. “You were not kidding about the werewolf warmth thing.” Viago tried to break the tension between them as Viago’s cold bare skin pressed against Anton’s warm one.
They created a perfect temperature together.
Anton looked down at Viago’s lips, he couldn’t seem to take his eyes off of it. Viago noticed, and turned away from him. Anton frowned a little, tilting his head to catch Viago’s eyes again. “You know,” Viago began, nervous and a bit bashful. “Being with you reminds me of what it used to feel like to bask in the sun.”
Anton felt something deep within him shift, he realized what he truly had been feeling for Viago. He needed to tell him now, he needed to chase this moment, he wanted to be with Viago even if the questions in his head had no answers to them. Being with Viago made everything make more sense.
“I haven’t been trying to avoid you,” Anton shakily said, still raring from what Viago said to him. “I’ve been having these…feelings for you, and they’ve been too confusing and I don’t want to ruin what we have together.” Anton stumbled out, he figured he should’ve written this down and practiced.
Viago looked back at him, his arms that was awkwardly by his side came to wrap around Anton’s neck. Anton’s breathe hitched in his throat. “You have feelings for me?” Viago asked, round eyes glistening.
Anton gave a small smile to him. “Yeah,” He said, his mouth suddenly dry. “And if you let me, I would love to kiss you right now.” He said, voice in almost a whisper.
Viago’s smile took over his face as he leaned in, Anton closed his eyes and was met with cold pink lips. It was a careful kiss, the two searched each other. It was a bit awkward, Anton’s teeth clanking against fangs. But it was perfect. The two stood in the freezing sea, tangled into each other with their mouths fitting together like a puzzle piece.
Viago ran a hand through Anton’s hair, and Anton smiled into the kiss. They both pulled back after a second, the gentle kiss breaking between them. Viago bit at his lip, and Anton knew he looked red as a tomato. “You could’ve told me.” Viago said, resting a hand on Anton’s cheek that the other leaned into.
“I was scared, I didn’t want to lose you.” Anton said anxiously, kissing Viago’s hand.
Viago smiled, but it looked a bit saddened. “You’ll never lose me.”
Anton smiled, and brought Viago back into another kiss. The two stood in the sea, under the moonlight and Anton felt like he had finally found something who he could cherish and share everything with. He never had anything like this with anyone else.
He finally found someone to share these moments with, and he was happy.
