Work Text:

Heaven... I'm in heaven,
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak.
And I seem to find the happiness I seek,
When we're out together dancing cheek to cheek.

Anton and Viago hung around the vampire’s den for the night, Viago showed him his hobby room and all his pottery he has done over the centuries. He smiled widely every time Anton complimented them, and Anton had to resist the urge to kiss him every time he did. They hadn’t kissed since Anton was brave enough to to initiate their first one not too long ago. They were more than aware what they had between them.

Although, they acted like school kids in love. Too anxious to kiss in fear what the other might think, they would giggle at the sight of just holding hands, Anton blushed anytime Viago looked over at him. Their relationship was pure, something Anton had never experienced before.

“I still need to teach you how to dance.” Viago spoke up, the two lounged around on the couch in the main area listening to the old antique record player. Vladislav and Deacon had gone out for the night, luckily Anton had shown up after their departure because it would be too hard to explain why a werewolf and a vampire decided to hangout with each other on their own.

Anton chuckled, straightening up and looking over at Viago. “Told you, I can’t dance.” He watched as Viago stood up in front of him and held out a hand.

“That’s why I said I’ll teach you.” Viago said, Anton hesitantly took his hand and stood up with him. The record spinning on the needle was the only thing that Anton could focus on as Viago put his arms around his neck. Anton tried to hide his furious blush that was taking over his face as he wrapped his hands around Viago’s waist and they began to slowly move back and forth. Anton wondered what song was playing, it was an older love song that made the moment so perfect.

Anton looked down at his feet, trying his best to not step on Viago’s toes. He knew the other wouldn’t care, but Anton didn’t think he could handle the embarrassment if he did. He could hear Viago chuckling, he looked up with a small frown. “What’s so funny?” He asked.

“You seemed so focused, it’s cute.” Viago said, Anton wanted to be mad but he couldn’t help melt at the way Viago looked at him.

Anton snickered, his gaze off his feet and now focusing on Viago as they pressed closer together and swayed. “What song is this?” Anton asked, he never listened to much music but he loved the way this song sounded.

Viago perked up, seeming happy Anton had asked. “It’s my favorite! I think this one is called Cheek to Cheek.” Viago happily hummed the tune, and Anton found it adoring.

“Who’s it by?”

Viago stopped humming, looking up at the ceiling to ponder the question. “I’ve heard this song a lot by different people, I think this one is named Fred.” Viago looked back down at him with a smile.

“Fred?” Anton chuckled, it wasn’t the most helpful but he loved seeing Viago smile.

“I can’t remember everything! I know I saw this song live once, but it wasn’t by a guy named Fred. There were two people that time.” Viago seemed to be thinking fondly of the distant memory.

Anton pulled one of his arms around from Viago and ran a hand through his hair. “You’ve seen a lot.” Anton said, leaving his hand on the back of Viago’s neck.

Viago shrugged as if it wasn’t a big deal, his smile coming off a little less genuine than before. “I’ve lived a long time.”

Anton went quiet at that as the music filled the room to take over the silence, he could only focus on Viago right now. Thoughts of all the things the vampire had seen, the events he went through, Anton wondered out of everyone he could’ve been with in the whole world, why him?

“Werewolves live longer than humans, did you know? But…” Anton trailed off, he wasn’t sure if now was the best time to bring it up. Not while Viago stared at him with wide eyes and had his arms around his neck tightly. “We don’t live forever.”

Viago studied Anton’s face, his smile had morphed into a content expression. “I know.” He whispered.

“What happens when I get old?” Anton couldn’t help but ask, it was a question that had been in the back of his mind for a while now.

“I don’t like to think about it,” Viago confessed truthfully, Anton hadn’t realized they stopped swaying until Viago began to sway with him again. “But I’ll kiss every age spot you get.”

Anton was taken aback by that comment, he had never had someone be this soft with him. Be this open and loving to him, and Anton didn’t know how to handle it. Anton leaned in and kissed Viago, he was longing to kiss him this entire time. Viago pulled him in closer, the song in the background tuned out the world around them.

Anton wanted this moment to last forever, he smiled into the kiss as the record player ran out of the song and the needle skipping was heard. The two pulled back, Viago resting his forehead against Anton. The two smiled at each other like they were the only two in the world. Anton felt heat pool at the bottom of his stomach when a sudden thought appeared into his mind. He wondered if he could ask Viago and him to be official, he wondered if Viago would want that?

He wondered what it would be like to call Viago his boyfriend and he liked the way he imagined it rolling off his tongue.

“Viago-“ Anton started, but was suddenly interrupted by the front door slamming open and shut. The two broke from each other quickly, Anton looked around in panic to see if there was anywhere to hide.

“Viago! Why does it smell like werew-“ Deacon shouted, but wasn’t able to finish his sentence as his mouth dropped open at the sight of Anton standing in the middle of the room.

Anton hadn’t been able to find a spot to hide so easily, he wished he was able to disappear. Deacon scrunched up his nose, and all Viago could do was stare at him as Vladislav appeared at the entrance as well.

“Oh,” Vladislav said, taken aback. “That’s why it smells like wet dog.” He muttered, looking Anton up and down unimpressed.

Anton felt exposed to the vampires, he kept a steady gaze on his feet not knowing where else to go from here.

“Viago!” Deacon hissed, coming over to the record player and stopping the needle from skipping. “You’re going to scratch the record!” He frowned, taking it off and holding it to his chest.

Viago seemed to finally find his voice, clearing his throat and gesturing his arms around. “I’m sorry, I invited Anton over to show him our,” Viago turned around to Anton, his eyes wide. Anton gestured him to go, but Viago seemed to have no plan. “Records…yeah, our record collection. He’s a big music fan.” Viago looked back at them with a plastered smile on.

Deacon and Vladislav exchanged looks. “Huh,” Vladislav nodded. “You are into the arts of music as well?” He pointed his direction to Anton.

Anton swallowed hard, chuckling nervously. “Of course, I love….all music.”

Deacon raised an eyebrow at him, he didn’t seem too convinced, but Vladislav laughed. “Finally a werewolf with good taste. He’s one of the better ones anyways,” Vladislav said to Deacon before turning back. “Sorry forgot your name.”

“Anton.” Viago piped up before he could.

“Right, Anton. Well, glad you enjoyed our record collection. I think it’s best if you go now, no offense, but the smell.” Vladislav said,  shooing at the air around him.

Anton nodded, feeling the tension in the room. “Thank you for having me over,” Anton turned to Viago, awkwardly. “Thanks for….showing me all the records.”

Viago pulled off a fake smile that was wider this time. “Of course! Anytime, let me walk you out.”

Deacon and Vladislav had lost interest after that, migrating their way up the stairs and to their rooms. Viago walked Anton out of the house, closing the door behind him as the two stood on the porch. “That was close.” Viago sighed, Anton gave him a sympathetic smile.

“Yeah, I hope they didn’t suspect anything.” Anton said, coming up to Viago and resting an arm around his waist.

“They’re too stupid and involved in themselves to notice most things.”

Anton laughed at that, louder than he expected. “Are you free tomorrow night?”

Viago smiled. “Always for you,” He said, he stared at Anton for a second before tilting his head. “Before Vlad and Deacon came in were you going to say something to me?”

Anton’s eyes widened slightly, and he shook his head without a second thought. “Nothing, no, just uh…that I find you very pretty.” He tried to cover up the fact he wanted to ask Viago about being his boyfriend, it felt too soon.

Viago’s smile appeared back and he leaned in and left a small kiss on Anton’s lips. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Anton nodded, he watched as Viago waved at him before closing the door. Anton smiled to himself as he left the house and began his walk back to his flat, his smile didn’t falter the entire time.

Heaven, I'm in heaven
And the cares that hung around me through the week
Seem to vanish like a gambler's lucky streak
When we're out together dancing, cheek to cheek
