Work Text:

Sasha Waybright was pissed. It was prom night and she had come dateless. Which meant to every guy here, apparently, it was a race to figure out who would “win the right” to take her home. Really, this was the ninth (tenth?) guy to come up to her tonight asking for a dance. God, was he was still talking?

“I mean, we don't have to dance! We can do other things. I have a car if-”

“Yeah, ok. I gotta bring this punch over to my friends.” Sasha rolled her eyes as she turned towards her table. She noticed her girls looked upset and walked faster, maneuvering through the crowd.

Another guy hold you up?” Anne snapped. “Can't get enough of you tonight huh.”

Sasha gaped, immediately confused. Anne looked upset, not mad. And Sasha knew when Anne looked mad, she'd been on the receiving end of her infamous stare more times than she'd like to admit. But Anne was looking away from her, a small scowl on her face.

There was a bump under the table and Anne made a hissing noise before Marcy spoke, “They're not bothering you too badly, right? You know I’ll make Anne beat them up if they are. Or I can hack into the schools grading systems and give them Fs! I bet they already have Fs, I’ll give them F-er Fs!”

Sasha blinked a few times. Marcy was nervous rambling, nothing new, but right now? When Sasha went to refill their cups she could hear Marcy giggling as she left. What the hell had happened when she was gone? Unless, “Wait a minute! Are you two jealous??”

Anne and Marcys' faces heated up, and Sasha laughed. “Oh my god, guys! You two are amazing, and I’m sure a ton of guys, or girls, or people, sorry Marce, will fight over you once we leave this hellhole of a school. Trust me, you don't want any of them anyways. They're dumber than toads.” When this didn't garner a reaction, Sasha went on. “For real, the last guy who talked to me went on for a few minutes and I didn't even say a word. He just assumed I’d listen to him! They're so arrogant-”

“We're not jealous of you!” Marcy shouted, eyes immediately widening and their hands flying to his mouth. “Oh frog, I did not mean to say that.”

There was silence around the table for a minute with Sasha processing, while Marcy and Anne looked shocked and terrified.

She would not get her hopes up. She would not. She was certain she had misunderstood. There was no way. “You, you're not… you're not jealous of the boys… Are you?” Sasha said, her voice quiet and wavering.

Anne took one look at her, one at Marcy, then stood up. Marcy was yanked out of his chair and Sasha’s wrist was grabbed before they were both being dragged into the school's hallways. It was almost a full minute before they were being shoved into a random classroom.

Anne, out of breath and bracing herself on a desk, spoke. “Sorry, but we were not doing that in the middle of everyone. Also, great job blowing our cover dude!”

“It was an accident! You know I blurt things out when stressed and I was overstimulated too. I’m sorry.”

Anne sighed, “It’s okay Marbles, I shouldn't have yelled at you.”

“Can someone please tell me what the fuck is going on right now!” Sasha felt bad as soon as she said it, and her girls were looking at her wide-eyed. But she was very confused, kind of scared, and also being ignored. Not a good combination for her. “I am… also sorry for yelling. I’m confused and would like an explanation. Please?”

“Woah, anger management therapy works!” Anne joked. Neither of the other two laughed. “C’mon guys that was kinda funny.”

“I’m not even going to anger management therapy. Also, you're lucky I’m being so nice as I was just dragged and running in heels Anne. Now can you explain why I was doing that? And what we “weren't doing” in front of everyone?”

Anne chuckled nervously, and Marcy was looking anywhere but Sasha. She started tapping her foot, the stress getting worse the longer it was quiet. “Well, uhm, you see,” Anne started, “Marcy will be able to explain!”

“What? I will NOT be able to explain! Anne, please don't make me do this alone I can't do this alone.”

“Breathe, Mar, I promise I won't make you explain alone, I’m sorry.”

Sasha was truly worried now, Marcy was tasked with explaining and almost immediately had a panic attack. What the hell could be going on? Maybe they were jealous of the guy's confidence? Maybe she had misunderstood. What else could it be? The guys’.. appearance? Maybe they weren't jealous of the guys at all. Maybe…

“Are you dating?” Sasha wondered aloud, and two heads snapped to look at her. “It's okay if you are, y’know. If you're jealous of the guys for not having to hide. The people here aren't great sometimes but it's LA, and the school will not tolerate homophobia. We saw that when Marce first came out. If you're just worried about hiding from me, it's okay! Really! Just don't start acting all gross and ditching me all the time and we'll still be us, right?”

“You're not actually far off,” Marcy said, and Sasha's heart broke. Idiot, I said not to get my hopes up. Fuck, thank frog for my poker face. “Well, we're not dating. Yet! Actually, uhm, the two of us, we… Anne figured out I had a crush on her when she overheard me talking to Oliva one day. She confronted me and said she'd love to date me but she loved someone else too. She told me who and, well, we love the same person. We're not dating because we want to ask that person too. I don't think either of us would feel complete without them by our side.”

“I said earlier you guys were amazing,” Sasha swallowed her tears. “this person would be an idiot to say no! If they do you better let me ruin their life. They’d be lucky to have you two as partners”

Anne grinned, “Well we wouldn't want you to ruin your own life, now would we? Besides, in your own words, ‘you’d be lucky to have us as partners.’”

“Yeah Sash, what Anne said! Besides, it would be a little stupid to ruin your own life right?”

Sasha felt like her brain was a machine. Gears were turning and something was happening, but she did not understand any of it. At least, not until her brain finally gave her the answer she was looking for. “I’m the person? The two of you love me?”

“Well, Olivia thought it was pretty obvious. She said the entire kingdom knew I was in love with you and Anne! I didn't think I was that obvious though.” Marcy frowned.

“Neither did I, but what can ya do? At least we were able to tell her, I know Yunan bet $10 we’d take a year.” Anne bashfully grinned, looking into Sasha’s eyes. “So, what do you say? We're definitely better options than the meatheads out there.”

“No pressure though!” Marcy jumped in. “You don't have to. We wouldn't want to push you into something you're uncomfortable with. You can take time to think too, if you want.”

Sasha was grinning widely. She could feel the beat of her heart in her head. “I don't need it. The time. I love you too. Both of you, since before Amphibia. Yes, yes I’d like to date you. God, I thought you were talking about someone else and asking for advice.”

“Wow, we're so stupid.” Anne stated, a goofy grin on her face. “Dating. Dates. Are we partners now?”

“I’d think so, that's the logical progression. I feel like I just rolled a nat 20 in real life!”

“I hate that I know what that means, nerd.” Sasha laughed, lighting bumping Marcy's arm.

“You know what the next step in the logical progression is?” Anne said, eyebrows raised. When no response was given, she continued. “Kissing! Obviously kissing guys, I’ve been waiting years for this and you two haven't kissed me yet! Hurry it up, dudes!”

“We’re dating and you're still gonna call us dudes?”

That's what you took from that?! Sasha come onnn!” Anne whined.

“Wait! Wait, I have an idea.” Marcy interrupted. “Okay, I know it may not be both of yours but, uhm, this is gonna be my first kiss and-”

“You said you kissed someone in 10th grade!”

“I lied! It was embarrassing to still not have kissed someone, okay! Anyways, as I was saying, I want both of you to close your eyes. Keep them closed, for me, please?”

Both girls did as they were told. In a few seconds, Sasha felt chapped lips on hers. She was so shocked she didn't even have time to kiss back before they were gone. She missed the warmth immediately.

“You can open your eyes now! And now both of you will be my first kiss. Even if technically I kissed one of you “first”, we'll never know who. So my first kiss is you two!”

Marcy’s face was redder than a tomato. Sasha found it adorable. “That is, so cute Mar-Mar oh my god.”

“Dude, you're both so gay.” Anne snorted.

“Shut up Anne. You're literally gay too!”

“Actually, my fair lady, I am, in fact, a raging heterosexual.”

Sasha rolled her eyes before grabbing Anne’s tie and pulling her into a kiss. It was quick and forceful, so their teeth clacked together a little, and it wasn't very elegant. But it was very them.

“Still heterosexual?” Sasha smirked.

“... Guess not.” Anne muttered, only a little dazed.

Marcy laughed, before swinging her arms around them for a group hug. “You know, prom is technically our first date now.”

“Ew, that's so corny.”

“I think I like corny.”

“Yeah, me too!”

“God, okay. I guesss I can do corny if it's with you two. Only you two, and you will tell no one. Now, let's get back to the gymnasium. I have two very important people I need to ask for a dance.”

Notes:

guys, I'm gonna be honest, I wrote this at like 2 am a month ago and forgot to post it so here we are! I think I used a few ideas from other fics I've read (the marcy never kissing anyone is def one of them). I don't the fics or authors' names but if you do see this I love you your brain is so big <3. thank y'all for reading! I'll add this to a collection cause I'll probably get around to doing more one-shots from prompts for amphibia. eventually.
