Work Text:
In their defence, the mission was supposed to be simple.
Just an easy smuggling mission for some stolen product. They just need to get in there, then get out with whatever was taken to begin with.
How was the Ada supposed to realise that what they were hired for would be stealing from the royal guard on the day one of the largest balls are being thrown? To say if they had known such a fact they wouldn’t have taken the job is that of a large understatement.
Yet, since they took it Kunikida has refused even the idea of backing out. Claims it would be bad for their image or something. Dazai, personally, didn't care about such things. He just found the idea too interesting to pussy out of. I mean, c’mon. They got a chance to crash a royal ball? As if he could ever not take that! Dazai could feel the thrill already.
The plan they made was actually pretty simple:
-Get in through the front with some fake invitations given to them by Kunikida (How he got them? No one wanted to ask..)
-try to stick together in their groups (Kunikida, Ranpo, and Dazai) (Yosano, Kenji, and Kyouka)(Tanizaki, Naomi, and Atsushi)
-Ask around for some more information
-then find out where the stuff was and retrieve it
Simple, right? Something ten times easier than what they normally do, right? No way this could ever go wrong, right ?
Well, you would think so. But yet there they were, Atsushi, Tanizaki, and Naomi cornered in a conversation. Dazai wasn’t in the conversation but from the looks of it, they all had been confronted by what he assumed to be a few men that might have been checking over the crowd for any faces that they don’t recognize. To be fair, they weren’t wrong.
But Dazai can’t have that happening, so he looks over to Kunikida who seems to have seen the same thing. He leans close, whispering something in his ear before approaching the situation with a wide smile. “Is there a problem~?” He asks, not sparing a second glance at the overwhelming relief on Atsushi’s face.
The glare on the man’s face only seems to increase in seeing another unfamiliar face. “And who the hell are you? Do I have to call security?” His voice matched him perfectly in terms of aggression. By his imitate reaction it seemed the three had done nothing in terms of calming the situation.
“Hey, let's not get too hasty~! I think there is just some kind of miscommunication here.” He then grabs Atsushi by his shoulder, pulling him close to his side. “This here is my son, he didn’t cause trouble, did he?” Easily slipping on a stern tone and looking down to a sputtering mess that was Atsushi. It was probably his comment.
The man seemed to lighten up a bit despite minutes later claiming he didn’t even recognize Dazai. “Yes! There is a problem, who the hell are you four?” Dazai bites back an annoyed groan, great he has to deal with a competent person.
It was clear Tanizaki was trying to salvage the situation, but they had dug a deep grave here.
“Shūji Tsushima, my apologies but we entered with invitations. Feel free to search through~” Confidence dripping from his voice.
And the man looked him up and down, unsure. “Yeah. Alright I’ll do that-“
But it seems nothing can go their way as a feminine voice calls out, presumably Yosano, before grabbing his shoulder, “Dazai, we have a lead.” He freezes along with everyone other than Yosano’s group. (Yosano, Kyouka, and Kenji) But not even that lasts for long as Yosano catches a glance of the guard that Dazai had been blocking. By the looks of it, the man has caught on, eyes widening and face becoming red with presumable rage.
And yet as soon as the man was going to grab the front of Dazai’s shirt, music starts up. Loud and upbeat music causes the chatter around to die right now as well as snatch the man’s attention as he looks up and around confused.
Dazai’s smile increases as he can see in the corner of his eye people already starting to dance. “Well, look at that!” He turns around to face Yosano, offering his hand. “Join me for a dance~?” He asks, tone sick inducingly sweet and charming. Yosano forces down a gag at the overdramatic act, smiling and taking his hand.
“Alright then, show me what you can do.” And before the guard could even protest the two walk off to the middle of the circle already being formed, only a few other people in there already. He is quick to motion over the rest of them as they seem to catch on quickly. Kyoka grabs Atsushi’s hand quickly, dragging to follow them, dragging behind a still rather flustered Atsushi. (From embarrassment) Then Naomi grabbed her brother’s hand, doing some rather uncomfortable things on their way to follow. As for Kenji he quickly tagged along with Atsushi and Kyokua.
Before they knew it most of the floor was following in their movements. Dazai and Yosano standing up straight before suddenly Dazai starts, pulling her close to whisper in her ear, “the lead? I will be the one to look for it.” Voice rather serious despite the fact the two pranced around the floor, trying to dodge each and every guard as they looked for him.
Yosano, mumbles back- “It’s upstairs, some loudmouth kept talking about it and he looked to be pretty important-” And yet before she could finish, they both were pulled apart, being dragged away from each other, Dazai being passed off to Kunikida who was clearly struggling with his dancing, far too stiff. He curses under his breath as he watches Yosano being passed off to Ranpo it seems.
Dazai then turned his attention back to Kunikida, looking him dead in the eyes as Dazai had to fully lead the whole thing or else they would probably be kicked off because of how bad it was. “Shit- I need to get back to Yosano.” He tells Kunikida, yet Kunikida’s grip tightened on his hand as he stiffly spun Dazai around and held him out.
“What is the situation?” His deep voice spoke up, trying to be quiet but it was also hard over the music, that same music that he had been forced to turn on due to Dazai’s orders minutes earlier. Dazai had claimed it was a backup plan but he still didn’t get it.
Dazai pulls them back close, pushing up their chests as he maneuvers his way out of sight from another guard. “We have been compromised, seems like they found up we aren’t who we say we are. Yosano thinks she knows where the product is but she didn’t get to tell me before we were dragged apart.” He explains in a quick voice, scanning the crowd again. By the looks of it, the matchups are as follows.
Kyouka with Ranpo
Kenji with Naomi
Tanizaki with a stranger who looks uncomfortably like Akutagawa
And then Atsushi with Yosano.
Yosano was looking right at Dazai back, offering a quick nod before suddenly the two push off each of their partners, then connect their hands after some dancing through the moving people. “Upstairs, there is a door hidden behind a wall the person said. Nothing else, I am sure you could find it.” She says quickly, not wanting to risk it as it seems the beat is picking up its pace even more. With a quick nod, he then trades off, spinning around quickly to be met with a rather tall man. He was a shaking mess as clearly was dragged in by force, his hair covering his eyes. That looks like that one boy, Dazai thinks to himself, smile increasing as he dragged the man around the dance floor, something he picked up on was the fact that he was a very good dancer despite his nervous state, always knowing where to step and where his feet should land, and even when it came to spinning he was great. Dazai even took note of the way he kept pace perfectly, despite the song being fast pace and getting faster by the minute.
There was another quick trade-off as he was met with Atsushi, by the looks of it he had gotten his bearing and only a light blush feel on his face, breathing a bit heavy but that was probably because he was getting out for breath from moving so much. “Hello~ How are you doing so far?” Dazai asks, he also was getting a bit short of breath but he still moved around. They brush past a taller woman, bright red hair that was tied tight into a high bun, a Kimono with pinkish flowers draped over his shoulders and yet she still mover perfectly. She looks kind of like-
Dazai was torn from his thoughts by Atushi speaking, “I’m worried. Is everything going to be ok?” He asks, getting Dazai to turn back to face him.
“So little trust~” He smirks before throwing him backwards, turning around quickly to his next trade-off. He could hear his loud thumping heartbeat in his ears, the way the music was coming to its climax it seems as the beat was faster than ever. And then he collides with his new finishing act, eyes widening.
Chuuya stared back at him, feeling the way both their breaths were heavy by the fact they were pushed right up against each other. Both their hands attached and Dazai towering over him ever so slightly. Chuuya himself wore a rather nice suit, staring up at him with intense eyes, narrowed into a glare. “Found you.” His voice was raspy, their faces a little too close for comfort.
Dazai heaved out heavy breaths as his smile increased, the whole dance floor holding still as the song pauses after a dramatic drop. “Thanks for looking~” They didn’t dare move nor look away, slowly catching a breath. Dazai could feel Chuuya’s breath on his face if you wanted an idea of how close they were face-wise.
The long pause only felt long because before they knew it, the music started right back up, A whole new song, however, it seemed to also be upbeat like the last. But it didn’t matter, he immediately took a large step forward, Chuuya stumbling back a bit surprised. Yet he was quick to get back on it, continuing forward with it.
While Dazai continued on aggressively, attempting his best to trip Chuuya up, they passed Atsushi.
Atsushi was well… Traumatised. There he struggled to follow Akutagawa's quick and aggressive moments, the grip on his hand almost feeling like Akutagawa was trying to break it. Because it's just his luck, right? Dazai ended up pushing him right into Akutagawa who had caught him in a dip seconds earlier. “What are you doing here, Jinko?” Atsushi jumps at the sudden voice, but soon the offence starts to set in.
“What am I doing here? What are you doing here-!” His voice was clearly too loud because Akutagawa slaps his free hand over his mouth, pulling him close to his chest.
Atsushi could feel his breath on his ear as it made a shiver run up his spine, letting out a shaky breath. Too close-! “Don’t shout. You will gain their attention.” His voice was cold and quiet. Atsushi snaps out of it, looking around quickly to see the guards were still looking around the crowd.
He could feel his throat closing, watching as the guard nearly catches his eyes before he quickly takes charge, wrapping an arm around Akutagawa’s back before spinning around so his own back faces the guard, tripping Akutagawa into a messy dip, but he manages. With the sudden movement, their faces were so close their noses brushed against each other, Akutagawa’s eyes widened, pure and undeniable embarrassment and rage coming over his face. But before He can go through with his clear murder plan Atsushi pulled him back up and continued moving.
“Look, Akutagawa. I get if you like dances or whatever but-” He couldn’t finish before being violently tugged forward with such force he could have sworn he heard something crack. Before he could voice his pain Akutagawa spoke.
“You need to tell me what the hell you are doing here before I gut you like a fish and make you into a rug.” His skin crawls at the threat. Though Atsushi knew about his promise not to kill, it still was rather disturbing.
He takes a deep breath, genuinely considering telling him or not. Surely it wouldn’t matter much now, right? “A mission. It is to retrieve stolen products.” He did break under the heavy gaze of Akutagawa. Yet, after he hears that his glare falls immediately into wide eyes.
“Who was the man to assign you?” He asks quickly, earning a confused look from Atsushi as they struggle to hold onto each other, other guests from around them starting to swap around it looks like.
Atsushi scoffs, trying to play cocky as he is forced out and into a light spin before being pulled back, letting his feet guide his movements. “Bold of you to assume it was a ma-” He couldn’t even finish before Akutagawa aggressively and very much purposefully stomps on his foot. Atsushi lets out a high-pitched yelp, stumbling back only to be then caught by Akutagawa, his arm wrapping around his lower back and grabbing his far wrist before tugging on it, forcing another spin as they spread out. Akutagawa then reaches over with his other hand, swapping them before pulling him back. Atsushi assumed it was to play off his little fuck off but he was impressed nonetheless, it would have been more impressive if it wasn’t triggered by his pain though. “Damnit- The man had short brown hair and really creepy looking red eyes, ok!?”
Akutagawa would have tried to shut him up but his eyes opened wide once more, clearly surprised before pulling Atsushi close. Soon enough it was Atsushi’s turn to look rather traumatised (two times in a row!) He then quickly looks up and around, he had to warn the others!
And his eyes ended up meeting with Yosano’s.
Yosano was also looking at Atsushi, rather worried. And yet, she herself also seemed to be in a bit of a bind. Kouyou held her wrists with gentle hands, a calm look displayed on her face. “It’s rude not to focus on your dance partner~” she spoke, suddenly pushing Yosano out and then back in for a spin, Yosano letting out a quiet gasp in surprise. She did let herself be spun though, ending up rather close as they stepped through the crowd.
Yosano’s attention was gained rather quickly after that, missing what Atsushi was trying to mouth over to her. sucking in a deep breath. “Why are you here?” She spits out with a heavy glare, Kouyou doesn’t back down though.
“A rather important mission turned up.” The way her voice sounded could have threatened to lull Yosano asleep under any other situation. However, she stayed aware and in control. Letting her feet move backwards with the rhythm, dragging Kouyou with her before she spun the both of them, ending in them spread out, arms the only thing connecting them as they traded off. Yet, it didn’t last long before they were back at each other’s sides. Yosano came in quickly and Kouyou bracing her with a quick and easy dip.
“And that mission being?” She asks, knowing Kouyou would pick up their previous conversation that was put on pause.
“Protecting a special something, of course.” She explains, leaving much to desire in terms of what she actually was doing. How bothersome, glancing around for Atsushi in hopes of seeing what he was trying to see only to notice Ranpo nearly tripping.
Ranpo personally never cared for learning useless skills, especially when it came to things that wouldn’t help him whatsoever when it came to deduction. So to say he was struggling a lot would be a major understatement, in his defence he had no reason to care about such a thing! So he was mid-trip before Poe reached down and quickly caught him by the waist. “Ranpo, you have to be more careful about where you step.” He scolds, pulling him through the other people, easily cutting off one of the guard’s gaze as they had almost landed on Tanizaki who by the looks of it was moving around with Tachihara, the shouting could be heard from where they moved.
“It’s not my fault!” He is quick to defend, holding onto Poe like he was some kind of lifeline; not too far off actually. So far Poe hadn’t forced too difficult moves onto Ranpo, fearing he might end up falling. So for right now, he held one hand on his hand, the other on his waist while Ranpo’s free hand was grabbing onto the front of his shirt.
Poe sighs, moving along the outskirts of the circle of dancing energetic guests, worrying that being in the middle would trip him up more. “I know that but still-“ yet he cut himself off after seeing that Ranpo’s eyes were open and focusing on something behind him. Watching as a stern look came over Ranpo’s face.
“It’s a trap,” Ranpo spoke, surprising him.
“A trap? For who? What is it?” He asks, rather unsettled as Ranpo turned back up to meet his eye, the one that had been slightly uncovered from once being hidden by his hair. His eyes were narrowed, almost mistaken for being closed like they normally were.
“Us. The Agency and the Port.” He explains simply, clearly thinking it over for a moment in an attempt to figure out more details, seeing no need to use ultra deduction because most of the clues were obviously already laid out in front of him. “Most likely the man hired both the Agency and Port to contradict each other to bid as a distraction.” He explains further, much to Poe’s obvious disarray but also admiration.
Poe snapped out of it, holding Ranpo a bit closer and leaning down further, “So what do we do? Was it all a sham to begin with?” He asks. Poe himself trying to think it over but it was a bit harder considering he lacked a lot of the important details.
“No. It’s not a sham, they still do hold important products the client needs, yet, it doesn’t think he ever intended to obtain it tonight. I still haven’t figured out what all this is for yet.” Trying to think it over but there weren’t easy enough pointers to the intent.
“Should you use Ultra deduction?” Poe asks though it was more like a suggestion.
Yet Ranpo shakes his head, “I’ll just pass on the message.” Earning a rather confused look from Poe before soon enough they brushed right past Dazai. And Poe could have sworn it was in slow motion when Ranpo’s mouthed words he couldn’t even make out, rushing past Dazai.
“Damnit.” Dazai grumbles under his breath, finally letting up in his quick movements. Chuuya heaves out heavy breaths, clearly a bit winded from having to save himself from falling or crashing into people on multiple occasions. He completely missed the little trade-off he and Ranpo had that only lasted seconds at max. “Chuuya. We have to go.” He urges, pushing forward much to Chuuya’s annoyance, yet for the most part, he seemed used to most of Dazai’s attempts to trip him up.
However, right where Dazai was going to escape the crowd, a guard walked over. He is quick to redirect them both, reaching over to Chuuya’s waist, and spinning so his back faces the approaching guard. He slouched over, moving away quickly and quietly.
Chuuya lets out a sharp breath, blocked by his teeth as Dazai accidentally twists his wrist in an off way. All around, Dazai was getting very sloppy. Like at least before his trip-up attempts were on purpose. So of course Chuuya does the most reasonable thing he can. He grabs Dazai’s hand too tight for comfort before dragging his ass down till they could feel one another breath on their face. “ I’m taking over.” His voice is commanding. Unlike what Dazai was used to and highly expected, rage. Instead, it didn’t seem like even his moves were that of revenge as Chuuya took charge.
By the looks of it, he was going along with the movements around them, pushing Dazai back while holding both his hands before letting go of one. Chuuya does a bit of footwork, moving into the dead centre before pulling Dazai back close.
Dazai took in the fact in masked awe with the way despite his figure, he was rather good. Of course, this was because he worked under Kouyou but besides that. The way he moved, pushing Dazai to go into the place he belonged. Almost like Dazai didn’t have to do a thing because Chuuya was guiding every move. The way, despite clearly looking for an opening, Dazai struggled to notice because of how he played it off. Clearly, this was not the first time he had done such a thing.
And before Dazai knew it, he was being quickly pulled away.
Dazai personality rarely had trouble with most things. He was a relatively easy learner but even beyond that most things came easy to him. Dancing was one of these things. Yeah, every so often he was forced to dance when it came to missions or that but it never even made him break a sweat. But yet, there Chuuya was, leaving him flabbergasted as he threatened to trip. It was almost like he had become a deer in headlights- like he had forgotten every signal movement that included any kind of rhythm.
So right now, for the first time in his life; he felt like putty in someone else's hand. Not the other way around like it should be.
Chuuya continued to guide them through the crowd with the most beautiful movements that gained Dazai’s full and unbreakable attention as he stared.
The only thing pulling him out of his daydream was three words that suddenly rang loudly in his ears.
‘ Steal it all.’
It was what Ranpo had told him when they passed. His eyes shoot back open wide, quickly looking around to see if anyone was ok before realising the two had made it out of the circle. “Stop dozing, dumbass. Let’s fucking go.” Chuuya’s voice was aggressive and the way his grip tightened on his hand and started dragging Dazai showed he also didn’t get past the physical aggression.
“Upstairs.” He speaks up without meaning to, earning a quick nod from Chuuya as they make a sharp turn. Dazai was stumbling behind, being the lookout for the guards because it looks like more have joined in the fun of looking for the fugitives.
It didn’t take too long before the two were running up a large flight of stairs and navigating through the halls and connecting rooms. Dazai took it upon himself to take the control back as he looked extra closely at each wall. Until-
Dazai stops dead in his tracks, ignoring the little chiwawa that ran right into his back. He turns as his hand brushes against a blank wall with a single photo resting on it. It looked a lot like the man that assigned them, the only difference being a few of the facial features, mostly his nose and mouth, along with greying hair. But the eyes, those disgusting as sadistic eyes. Those were all the same. “This is the wall.” He says sternly.
“What the fuck are you talking about?” Chuuya speaks up, reminding Dazai of his presence there. Yet, he doesn’t turn to face him.
“Where whatever that guy wanted. This is where they are keeping it.” He explains, the hallway going unnaturally quiet considering it was Chuuya who stood behind him.
Well, it was quiet till the sound of a gun cocking echoed, the feeling of a barrel of that same gun pressing uncomfortably against the back of his head pairing with it perfectly. Dazai should have guessed this was where it was going. “Great. Now fuck off, jackass.”
Dazai sighs, it seems like they are doing this now. “You won’t shoot me. We both know that.” Confident tone. Seemingly too confident because the gun on his head pushed against him harder, making him but back a groan. “Look, Chibi it isn’t worth it- this time at least.”
“One, don’t call me that. Two, why the hell isn’t it worth it?”
“Well, because if you did you would be made the fool~”
The conversation pauses for a moment before Chuuya quickly spins him around, shoving the gun against his throat. “You better start explaining or I will kill you.”
A smirk fell on his face, “well. I figured it out when Ranpo ordered me to quote ‘steal it all’-“ going the extra step of putting air quotes on it. “Because that wasn’t our mission, our mission was to retrieve it. So that obviously meant that the man that hired us wasn’t honest in his intentions. Then I wondered, why is most of the port mafia here? Answer me, Chibi. What were you hired to do?”
Chuuya’s eyes widened, pushing on the gun, wavering for a moment. “To protect an undisclosed item on the second floor from the Agency.”
“Now you’re starting to get it! And who assigned you?”
“He didn’t give a name-“ he tries but Dazai shakes his head.
“You know that’s now what I am asking.”
Chuuya pauses for a moment, “he had brown hair and unsettling red eyes like the bosses.”
And with that confirmation, Dazai smiles, everything falling into place. “Bingo! Because do you want to guess who hired us or save your little left dignity?” Chuuya didn’t utter a word, yet his face contorted into a glare. “That’s right. All of this was a trick to trip up the Mafia and Agency. For what reason, I can’t say for sure, I will have to ask Ranpo about it.” Dazai reaches up, moving the gun from his neck and leaning down. “How about we do one more smuggling mission together?” He suggests, voice quiet.
Chuuya freezes, eyes widening before shoving his face away. “Fine, Shitty Dazai. I’m not doing this for you though.”
Dazai stands back up straight, that stupid all-knowing smile plastered on his face. “Of course not~ now-” He looks back to the wall, “there has to be some trick to ope-'' But it came to no surprise to Dazai that as soon as he uttered the words, Chuuya physically kicked in the wall with little to no hesitation. Dazai glanced at the clouded, dust hidden room before looking at Chuuya. “You could have at least let me finish.” He voices his complaints, earning an eye roll from Chuuya.
“Killing you is still on the table so watch it.” Dazai easily brushes off the threat, pushing past him into the room. By the looks of it, the room was ancient; Cobwebs littering the corners, cracks running along the dirty wall. But besides that, his eyes fall onto a large shipment box. The only main thing in the room actually. He glances over to meet Chuuya’s equally confused eyes, before shrugging. Dazai calmly walks up to it, kicking it before sighing. “Chuu~yaa~” That annoying ass sing-song voice that mocked him.
A very annoyed groan seems to bounce off the walls till Chuuya approaches, doing the honours of kicking the top of the box, ability activated. The lid that once had been screwed on, flies off and crashes into the wall with a loud noise. Now it was Dazai’s turn to scoff, “Could you make it any easier for the guards to hear us?” Tone overly sarcastic. All he got was a heavy glare back.
“I can. Do you want me to?” Dazai waves off his comment yet again, walking over to the crate and leaning over. I seemed to be filled with packing peanuts much to Dazai’s amusement, reaching down and scooping them out and on the floor when he pauses. “Is that-” Chuuya tried to speak but cut himself off when Dazai reaches down. It was a smaller, more valuable-looking box. Dazai struggled a bit to heave it out of the large box and drop it onto the packing peanuts-infested floor.
They both crouch over it, “An incredibly valuable 1780 box? By the looks of it, yes.” Dazai finishes his train of thought for Chuuya.
“Son of a bitch…” Chuuya mumbles, reaching down and taking the courtesy of opening the box hesitantly. As Dazai expected, the box was full of unimaginably known necklaces and bracelets, Dazai could swear he could even spot a crown in there.
“You know, you could back out of this whole thing if you want-”
“You just want to keep all this shit for yourself!” Chuuya is quick to shut his suggestion up with a glare, slapping his hand on the ground. He didn’t get much of a reaction from Dazai about his outburst other than a shrug and him sticking out his tongue.
However, their sentiment didn’t last long after hearing loud stomping coming right towards the room. Dazai’s expression fell into a serious one, Chuuya following in suit. They both then look at each other and quickly starts draping the jewellery around each other. ‘Might as well make the box lighter.’ They seemed to think in unison, Dazai shoving the half-empty box closer to Chuuya, “You carry it.” He mutters.
“What!? No way! You have to carry it because I will be the one taking those guys down!” Dramatically pointing towards the door where the footsteps only grew in volume.
Dazai whines, “That’s too bad. Besides, you can use your gravity to carry it around!”
“Knowing you, you will cancel it out when I most need it to be light!”
“Just because I would have a few years ago doesn’t mean I haven’t changed, Chuuya! So judgmental.”
“Well have you changed?”
The room went silent besides the footsteps, “low blow, Chibi. Low blow~”
“SO YOU ADMIT YOU WOULD HAV-”
But he couldn’t finish his loud shout and probably assault against Dazai before loud gunshots echoed through the walls. Luckily Chuuya didn’t go with the assault because he easily stopped them with his gravity, sending them right back the guard’s way. He turns back around to confront Dazai only to get the box shoved in his direction. “Be back~” Before slipping away, much to Chuuya’s clear annoyance. One of the guards that remained untouched by the bullets quickly charged forward in an attempt to contain him. Chuuya’s counter-attack, a simple punch and a sickening crack to accompany it. The guard flies into the wall, even doing a little spin on the way there.
Yosano spun around. She still remained with Kouyou, a constant fight for control between the two as Yosano pushes her out.
Chuuya’s movements weren’t the most elegant as he pushes one of the up incoming guards into a group of others, much like bolling if you asked him. However, he could hear more coming, making his head shoot up to look at the door.
Poe glances up towards one of the doors, seeing if everything was ok because he thought he had heard something . Ranpo was starting to get the hang of it, thankfully, it seemed. Poe stepping it up ever so slightly, Moving for a quick dodge of a couple and bringing Ranpo with it. Pride shimmered on his face after realising he hadn’t fallen.
Chuuya made a quick move in dodging one of the guards that tried to tackle him. This would have been that much easier if there weren’t half the important people of the port mafia downstairs, meaning he couldn’t start tearing up the building. He noticed one of the guards trying to get up so he quickly kicked their ankles, the guard falling right back down.
Akutagawa kicks Atsushi’s ankle, making him stumble a bit. It was Atsushi’s fault for giving him this weird look, one that looked all goofy and shit because he almost messed up. He shouldn’t be mocking him like that! But even despite the fact Akutawa tried to trip him, Atsushi’s stupid look didn’t go away. So Akutagawa does the only logical thing… Punch him in the gut.
Chuuya doesn’t exactly hesitate before punching one of the many in the gut, the man spitting out blood as he is launched across the room. By the looks of it, Chuuya is starting to get overwhelmed by them because they just keep showing up. Like a steady stream of them constantly. As soon as he takes down five of them it seems like ten appear. Shitty Dazai, of course, he went and saved his own ass, Chuuya should have known better than to leave him behind to do all the hard work involved.
Finally, one of the guards got a hit in, not a very strong hit and not fully but it still managed to make Chuuya break a nervous sweat. He easily get rid of the guard with a kick. If the guards are starting to get the chance to hit him things will start going south really quick.
His breath was shallow as he continued to keep up well but he kept getting overwhelmed by the sheer amount of them and his inability to just shatter them, the fear of disturbing the party below very tangible.
A loud bang is what stops the next man that got a bit too close. Standing in the doorway was Dazai, holding a gun that pointed directly behind Chuuya with a wide grin. “Sorry if I took too long, got a bit held up.”
It felt like the room paused for a moment, Chuuya just staring at him right before it started right back up, guards now moving to attack him. Chuuya takes charge once more by grabbing the heavy box without the help of gravity, rushing forward before grabbing the back of Dazai coat and yanking him along. Dazai let out a sharp gasp before stumbling behind him. Guards right on their tail, “asshole! I didn’t think you were coming back!”
Dazai laughs a bit, “c’mon! I couldn’t let you steal all the glory!” But Chuuya heard the real message behind his tone, ‘I wouldn’t leave you stranded again’.
So Chuuya just smiled to himself, “Then keep up!” Before letting go of his coat, Dazai stumbles slightly before starting to run alongside him.
“C’mon! We need to get to the roof!” Dazai shouts, the guards close but not close enough to actually do much to them. No one would think Dazai was athletic enough to keep up with Chuuya, but where he lacked physical strength, he made up for it in agility.
A sharp nod coming from the gravity manipulator as he speeds up slightly, held back a bit due to the box in his hand. Taking in sharp breaths right alongside Dazai, the bandage wrapped around his neck doing nothing to help him in this case.
After a flight of stairs and hallways, the two end up on a platform of the roof, the light of distant stars shining down and lighting the area alongside the man made fixtures. Even still, the former partner stumbles to a stop. “Now what, asshole!?” Looking over the edge that just went straight down besides a few buildings.
Dazai laughs timidly as the guards flow in, “you are so going to kill me…”
“What? What does that mea-!?” However, he didn’t get to finish, Dazai shoving him off the roof. But that wasn’t the problem, Chuuya caught himself easily on the rooftop of a high building beside. But he was only able to make it because he had gravity.
So tell him why Dazai almost immediately jumped right in after him? The guards seconds away from grabbing him.
For Chuuya, it felt like all his senses were heightened to the max in a split second, lunging forward to the very edge. Just enough to grab his wrist, a sharp yank from his shoulder making both of them cry out slightly in pain. Within seconds, Chuya tugged him right up, falling backwards with Dazai landing on top of him. Both of them gasped in breaths. “You idiot!” Chuuya shouts, smacking the back of Dazai's head.
Dazai whines quietly as he lifts himself up to look down at him, a lopsided grin coming to his face. “Awe, was the slug scared of me?”
“....I should have let you fall.”
“Chuuuuyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaa-” He draws out loudly, crying as if he was deeply wounded. Up until Chuuya shoves him off.
“Fuck off and die.” Dazai rolled off with a chuckle, pushing himself up to stand before glancing to the guards who filed out, assumingly to try and go to the roof of the building they were on now. “Now come on, shitty Dazai. Don’t tell me you actually got hurt.”
Chuuya now stood over him, Dazai tilting his head with a slight grin before grabbing his outstretched hand, dragging himself up to stand. “This is me we're talking about.”
All he got back was a grin, “exactly.” Before he is yanked over and dragged to jump to the next roof over. Almost falling but Chuuya catches him. “This is you were talking about!”
