Work Text:
Mark let the tears flow freely from his eyes. He hugged the Captain tight as he could, not knowing they would be disappearing later. He sobbed as hard as he could. He felt their space suit getting wet but he couldn’t make himself stop crying. He was feeling alone but with the Captain by his side, he felt like he could cry as much as he could.
“C-captain,” he tried to say something but the big lump in his throat caught on the rest of his words.
The Captain didn’t say a thing, they just slightly smiled at Mark and started stroking his hair until he calmed down. Mark let himself smile even though his heart still ached.
“Captain? What- what are you doing here?” Mark asked, after realizing the very sudden appearance of the Captain.
The Captain only shrugged, as the time crystal in their hand brought them to the sad Mark. If the Captain was honest, they missed their companion.
“I missed you,” they mouthed, after a couple beats of silence.
Before the Captain could’ve even predicted it, Mark rushed forwards and kissed them on the lips. The Captains eyes widened in surprise and their cheeks went red.
While Mark had joked about going on a date with them, they didn’t believe him to actually like them. To tell the truth, the Captain always hoped Mark would like them. Mark just managed to match their energy and bring out the best (and boldest) in them. After a few seconds went by, Mark pulled away and saw the Captains shocked face.
“I-I’m sorry,” he apologized and moved slightly away, probably feeling awkward. The Captain smiled at Mark endearingly, to try stop him from feeling that way.
Then, in a swift movement, the Captain moved forward to return the kiss Mark gave them. Their cheeks were still red just from the thought of it, but they wouldn’t let Mark be in the dark any longer.
It was a light, but long kiss. They knew that even Mark couldn’t read this signal wrong. Mark let a little noise slip from his throat, in surprise from the reciprocation.
That’s when the crystal in the Captains hand started glowing and making noises. They didn’t want this moment to end, but the Captain quickly pulled away.
“I love you,” the Captain mouthed with the most emotion they could. That’s when the crystal opened another wormhole, sucking the Captain away from Mark as fast as they appeared.
“I love you too,” Mark yelled into the wormhole, trying to hold on to them before they disappeared. But it was too late. As soon as he stopped saying the words, the Captain was gone. He stared at the empty space they left and he let himself smile. He touched his lips as if he expected the interaction to be a dream.
‘Until next time,’ He thought to himself. Then he laid down in his bed before thinking about the Captain.
