“Sirius, let’s go!” Remus gritted out. His arms were crossed and a glare was settling on his face.
Sirius looked up from where he was laying on the floor. He blinked, then shook his head, black strands blocking his view.
“Look, I know you hate the rain, but we have to go. There are no groceries in the apartment and we can’t keep having takeout for every meal.”
Remus’s pleading words almost made Sirius cave. But he couldn’t. He hated the rain just as much as he hated Divination, which was a lot. He wouldn’t go out in the rain, not in his Animagus form (which he was currently in) or in human form. The rain made his hair gross and frizzy. And once his hair was that frizzy, no amount of spells or potions could fix it. It took him days of showering, spells, potions, and hiding in his room the last time he went out in the rain.
He shook his head again, giving Remus his best puppy eyes. Remus huffed, gave Sirius a disbelieving look, then dug in the cabinet for something.
“You, Sirius Black, are so lucky that I know you well enough to know that you would refuse to go out in the rain for the weekly shopping again.” Sirius’s head tilted to the left. “You’re lucky that I like to be prepared too.”
Sirius’s ears pricked up when Remus straightened and held out a bright yellow raincoat. He let out a low whine deep in his throat.
“Oh don’t start,” Remus groaned. “You won’t go to the supermarket when it’s raining, but it’s supposed to rain for the next week without stopping, and we need food. The only thing in our apartment that’s remotely edible is the dust gathering on the shelves. You don’t like it when you don’t have a chance to give your input on what we eat for the week, so you’re going to the supermarket with me with the raincoat or without it. It’s your choice.”
Sirius whined again, but stepped forward to let Remus put the raincoat on him. He stepped forward, wincing at the crackling noise the plastic made. Remus sighed again and clipped the leather leash to a loop on the raincoat.
The two left the apartment, Sirius with a high amount of reluctance. They started their ten minute walk to the supermarket, Sirius grimacing every time he stepped in a puddle. By the time they got to the supermarket, the drizzle had turned to a sprinkle.
They went throughout the supermarket, grabbing what they needed and just a little bit more than that, Remus shaking his head in exasperation every time Sirius did something a little too human for the other shoppers to ignore him completely. The supermarket was one of the few super markets in the area that would allow dogs inside without being service dogs, it wouldn’t do for them to be kicked out because Sirius acted too human.
By the time they had gotten everything, Sirius’s raincoat had dried off. He wasn’t looking forward to going back out into the rain. Remus led him to an alleyway so that he could shrink the shopping bags.
They were stepping out of the alleyway and then the rain stopped. Remus glanced down at Sirius, who was shaking the hood off. He let out a breathy laugh.
“All of that trouble just for you to shake the hood off.”
Sirius barked as smugly as he could. Remus shook his head for the umpteenth time that day.
“You’re such a drama queen sometimes, I swear.”
Sirius whined as he stepped in a rather deep puddle. He was sure that Remus had laughed, but when he looked at him, he was looking at a quaint little cafe nestled between a bookstore and a bakery. Sirius was the one shaking his head this time. Remus was far too good at keeping a poker face for his own good.
