    Summary

Claude is not avoiding Byleth. Not at all.

After all, you can’t really avoid someone you see and talk to every day. They meet to discuss status reports and budgets and tactics every day. Even on their scheduled rest days, there is usually something that needs to be relayed to the other.

    So no, definitely not avoiding.

Perhaps he’s been a little less available; meeting with minor lords and battalion leaders more often, helping secure trade routes, the never-ending checklist of making the monastery habitable for the ever-increasing number of soldiers, volunteers, and displaced orphans.

It all takes time, time that Claude simply must use.

And he has all these answers ready for Byleth should she ask when, one day, Claude realizes that she doesn’t try to find out.

She never asks because she is the one avoiding him.

This is a direct sequel to my song-fic, Phantom. And while I think I've written it in such a way that it can be read on its own, I reference that fic a lot.
