Work Text:
Ever since Bruce and Clark had started officially dating, both of their morning routines took a complete 180.
Unlike Bruce, Clark was an early bird. He’d wake up Bruce at the ass crack of dawn and make him breakfast. It was nice, but unlike Clark, Bruce was the night owl.
With the way his patrol routine worked, Clark would end up rousing him from sleep about two hours after he got home. Sometimes when Bruce was really swamped with work, Clark would meet him in the Cave and convince him to come to bed. There were times when this worked and times when Bruce convinced Clark he would be there with him in the mornings.
Of course, Bruce had to get his (very petty, in Clark’s words) revenge.
Although the Sun gave the Kryptonian an endless supply of energy, he always needed rest every now and then. When this happened, Bruce would keep him in bed for hours, making Clark late for work.
Bruce would sometimes get off of patrol at a more reasonable time on quieter nights. Clark would stay up with him, cuddled together in bed, watching 2000’s romance movies together. The movies were always Clark’s suggestions, never Bruce’s. If it was Bruce's decision it would be some old 60's film noir. Regardless of whatever movie was on, Bryce would always fall asleep to the lull of corny jokes from the movie and soft kisses from Clark, so Bruce never gave any complaints.
After the Haly’s circus incident, the couple saw a new visitor in their bedroom more often than not. Dick was a welcome addition into their home and the spot between Clark and Bruce during his first year at the manor.
After Dick’s worst nightmares, Clark would tell him stories from Krypton. Bruce would gently brush his fingers through their son’s hair and soon enough all three of them would be sound asleep.
Once Dick got older and began helping Batman as his sidekick, he stayed in his bedroom usually except for the rare nights when he would sleep at the end of Bruce and Clark’s bed.
Around the time Dick left the house, Clark finally said goodbye to his Metropolis apartment and let Dick stay there for college until he decided what he really wanted to do.
Eventually Dick decided he would stay in Metropolis to finish his degree in psychology. He said that he wanted to be a social worker and be able to help other children in Bl üdhaven once the time came around to move. Vigilantism was in his blood like Bruce, so he couldn’t just give that part of his life up.
Along the way, Jason joined.
Unlike Dick, Jason was much more inclined to stick close to Bruce while he slept. He was the one who took Jason off the streets, anyway and Clark had no qualms. If anything, Clark thought it was cute.
Once his training for the Robin mantle began, Jason finally made his room look a bit lived in. Emphasis on a bit because Clark still found himself turning his head to the door each night when he heard the soft pats of Jason coming to their bedroom door.
At first, Dick didn’t hit it off that well with Jason.
He felt replaced and Clark could understand where he was coming from. Before he left for university, Bruce and Dick had a nasty fight about independence before he left. Dick didn’t necessarily want to be Robin anymore, but he also didn’t want to feel like he was just being used for extra help. He wanted to feel like Bruce’s son, not his soldier.
When the time came around and Dick finally communicated these feelings with Bruce, they both saw a lot more of each other on the weekends when Dick didn’t have class.
But he would also be around to play his role of big brother. Jason would convince Dick to help him make these elaborate raceways with him in their parents’ room, leaving a mess for Alfred to clean up and Clark to search for the cars that sped under the bed frame.
Other times, Dick would help Jason with his homework and leave dull pencils in their wake for Bruce to get stabbed by when he went to bed that night.
One time, when Jason was especially sick, he practically stuck himself to Clark’s side of the bed and Clark ended up having to sleep in a guest bedroom. Bruce was not amused.
A few months before Ethiopia, Jason had officially moved everything out of the master bedroom and into his own across the hall. The night before he left to see his mother, Jason slept with Bruce and Clark one last time, huddled next to both.
After Jason died, Bruce wasn’t doing well.
Clark often waited to hear Bruce’s steps up the stairs to their bedroom, but it rarely ever came.
For a while, there were no slow mornings with Bruce or movie marathons until the sun was hard to ignore through the blinds.
Tim came around that dark point in Bruce’s life, shoving a manilla folder into his and Clark’s faces.
Tim didn’t stay permanently in their house but after the murder of Jack Drake, Bruce and Clark officially adopted him. He mostly stayed to himself in his room, working on his crazy codes that even impressed Bruce.
Other times, he would be in the theater playing on his Wii with Clark, trying to trick him into throwing the controller into the screen. Those nights the pair would stay up late, having fun until Bruce got off of patrol. By that time, Tim was exhausted and passed out in Clark’s arms as soon as he picked him up to bring him to bed.
As for the rest of their children over the years, Cassandra, Damian, and Duke mostly stuck to themselves.
Cassandra and Duke insisted that they were too old but still occasionally came to sleep after a particularly nasty nightmare. When Duke would stay up too late doing homework in the study, Clark would carry him up to his bedroom and tuck him in. At that moment, Clark realized his days of kids hogging the bed were over.
Damian was an entirely different story. He was clingy to Bruce but wanted nothing to do with Clark. Sometimes, Clark found himself empty handed on his side of the bed just to see Bruce and Damian curled up together near the edge on the other side.
It was worth it.
There were still nights when everyone would be back at the manor enjoying dinner until too-late. Dick, Jason, and Tim would be throwing food (much to Alfred’s dismay) and Cass and Duke would just egg them on. Damian would mumble about how immature they were before joining in after Cass and Duke. Eventually, even Bruce and Clark would be pulled in, turning the dining room into a mess.
After a long night, the Wayne's and their children would all crawl into bed and even Bruce would fall asleep with them.
