Day 22: Kiss

Shouto can't understand Midoriya most of the time. But she'll still do her best to help him.

Work Text:

Shouto sighs as she pulls out the bandages in her first aid kit. “You need to be more careful Midoriya.”

Midoriya laughs awkwardly and rubs the back of his head, grinning through the pain of one bruised eye, his bloody knuckles and scratches all over his arms and face.

“Really.” Shouto gently takes his bloody hand and starts to wrap it. “I mean it.”

“S-sorry for worrying you, Todoroki-san.” Midoriya lowers his hand, putting it in his lap. “I just had to help Anya-chan.”

“I know.” Shouto continues wrapping his hand. “You’re a Hero, Midoriya. I know you just have to help everyone.”

Even if it’s just a small child being hurt by their bullies. He can’t do one grocery run without getting into trouble. There’s a reason why Aizawa insists they always go in groups of at least two, after all, but it’s mostly Midoriya’s fault.

She knew she should’ve just made him come to the bathroom with her.

But he helped save a small child from their bullies and find their parents too. So it works out.

“There.” Shouto ties a knot. “That’s done.”

Midoriya lifts his hand and looks at it, adjusting his fingers. “Thanks for h-helping me Todoroki-san, that feels a lot better.”

“No need to thank me.” Shouto shrugs and pulls out her handkerchief. “I’ll make some ice for your eye.”

She creates a small ball of ice and wraps it in her handkerchief. She reaches up and holds it against Midoriya’s black eye.

“C-co-cold!” Midoriya stammers, wincing.

“Sorry.” Shouto replies. “It’ll help with the swelling though, so please endure it.”

“H-hai.” Midoriya forces a grin. “I can hold it myself Todoroki-san, y-you don’t have to hold it.”

“Okay then. I'll start working on your scratches then.” Shouto grabs Midoriya’s uninjured hand and places it over the small ice ball.

“Oh, you don’t have to go that far, Todoroki-san, r-really!” Midoriya waves his injured hand. “I’m fine, I can’t even feel them and I wouldn’t want you to waste your first aid supplies on me, really-”

“I only carry the first aid supplies on me because of you.” Shouto interrupts him, pulling out some disinfectant wipes. “So it’s only natural that I use them for you.”

Midoriya is quiet for a bit, allowing her to take his injured hand and gently clean off the blood and dirt on his cuts. One of the bullying children apparently had a spiky dust Quirk of some kind, making small but sharp particles that hurt fairly badly according to the bullied child. Midoriya told her he can’t even feel it, but Shouto has seen him smile when all the bones in his hands are broken, so she doesn’t trust his worryingly high pain tolerance.

“You got these because of me?” Midoriya asks, voice awed and soft.

Shouto focuses on cleaning up his other arm, the one currently holding the ice pack to his face. When he starts to lower that arm, she pushes his hand back to his eye.

“I thought that was obvious.” Shouto pulls out a new wipe, gently cleaning Midoriya’s other arm. “You were the one who reminded me that a Hero is supposed to help people, not just stew in their own pettiness and hatred.”

She remembers their fight so clearly. Midoriya, Quirkless but not useless, somehow connected to All Might. Herself, someone with ice and fire, daughter of the Number 2 Hero. It should’ve been a fast but simple match.

But Midoriya wouldn’t stop. He kept coming for her, dodging her glaciers, climbing up and over them, getting his hands bloody and sore from smashing her ice into bits. He even head butted some of her ice, like the mad man he is. And the entire time, he was trying to help her get over her walls and use her fire too. Saving her from her own self destruction.

Shouto knows she couldn’t stop Midoriya from being so self-sacrificial. She’s known that since that arena filled with ice became a small bomb due to his words and actions.

But she could keep first aid supplies on hand to help heal him after he’s helped others.

“Wow.” Midoriya smiles, looking down at his lap. “You’re amazing, Todoroki-san.”

Shouto gently grabs his chin and lifts it.

Midoriya gasps, face turning pink.

“You’re cooler, Midoriya.” Shouto replies. “Stay still, I’m going to clean your face now.”

Midoriya whimpers and closes his eye, taking in a deep breath. Perhaps he is in pain and lied about it earlier in an attempt to get her to worry about him less.

Fool.

Shouto is extra gentle as she rubs her third wipe along his face, cleaning off the blood from a wound on his forehead, the scratches on his cheeks, the blood from his nose too. The only reason he’s so badly hurt must’ve been because he let those bullies attack him. After all, she’s seen him defeat Bakugo in combat.

She gently wipes down his neck and Midoriya takes a sharp breath, whimpering.

“I’m almost done. Please stay still for a bit longer, Midoriya.” Shouto requests.

Midoriya gulps. “Y-yeah, Todoroki-san, I can do that.”

“Good.” Shouto hums.

Midoriya whines again. She better hurry.

Shouto finishes cleaning up his scratches on his neck and looks him over once more. She nods to herself.

“All done.” Shouto puts her remaining supplies back in the first aid box. “You did well.”

Midoriya lets out a breath and opens his eye, smiling. “Th-thanks for all your help, Todoroki-san. It’s nice to not get yelled at over injuring myself.”

Shouto narrows her eyes. “Does Recovery Girl usually yell at you?”

Midoriya nods, chuckling awkwardly. “Aizawa-sensei isn’t the only one who calls me a problem child. I definitely deserve it though.”

Shouto narrows her eyes further.

She doesn’t like that nickname Aizawa gave him.

“You’re not a problem child.” Shouto says.

Then she has an idea. A stupid one but…

Shouto takes Midoriya’s bandaged hand and gently lifts it, pressing her lips to his skin in a chase kiss.

There’s quiet for a moment.

Then Midoriya squeaks. “To-Tod-Todo-Todoroki-san?!”

Shouto removes her lips from Midoriya’s hand. “Recovery Girl uses kisses to heal, yes? I thought it might help. Do you need me to kiss you anywhere else?”

Midoriya sputters and whimpers, covering his blushing face. “N-no, I, I’m I mean yes I mean, I-”

He trails off into incoherent mumbling, the only words she can understand being ‘kiss’, ‘scumbag’ and ‘chance’.

Shouto sighs.

Midoriya may have been the one person who saved her.

But she doesn’t understand him at all.

“Let’s get back to UA.” Shouto stands up and gently pulls Midoriya to his feet too. Then she puts her arms under his back and knees, picking him up. “I’ll carry you back to UA. I wouldn’t want you to further injure yourself while you’re lost in your mind like this.”

Midoriya makes a concerning whining noise, still covering his face, his ears turning red.

Shouto hopes he isn’t sick.
