Chapter Text
“Uki Violeta has a crush on you.”
The sentence that Fulgur was reading in his book lost its context when he stopped reading midway to it. Slowly, gray eyes look up from letters and words to meet purple ones now eagerly looking at him. Is it worth it to close his book to converse with his friend about that topic—with that sentence as a start of the topic?
Seems like it is because Fulgur Ovid folded the tiny bit corner of his book before closing it for good and giving all his attention to his friend. “Shu, are you drunk?”
“Oh, come on!” Shu pouts. Fulgur cannot help the smile growing on his face at the adorable frown that Shu is wearing. “You can’t just say that here, Fuu-chan!” For emphasis, Shu even leaned in to whisper the words to Fulgur and side-eyes everything around them like they’re agents on a top secret mission but there are just a bunch of in-charged classmates cleaning the classroom, “What if the teachers heard us, hm? I don’t want to get detention!”
“You won’t. The teachers like you too much,” Fulgur shakes his head, gray strands of hair swaying on his forehead. Shu leaned back with furrowed eyebrows, “Why are you allowed to say that but you don’t believe me when I say that Uki Violeta has a crush on you, hm, Fuu-chan?!”
“Because that’s impossible, Shu-chan,” Fulgur easily replies with an amused laugh. He thinks back at the man he was being told about—Uki Violeta, right? That pretty boy from the music club, who’s great at singing, who’s always seen flirting with other boys in different classes and absolutely holding reigns over them? Yeah, Fulgur knows the guy. Pretty sure Fulgur has seen some fanclub cheering for that sparkly Violeta boy whenever he’s asked to perform a number during school events. Yup, yup. That Uki Violeta is the sparkly one who always seems to twinkle whenever he walks in the hallways of the school, smiling and waving back at his fans like he’s a celebrity or something (honestly, he might as well be).
Fulgur Ovid on the other hand… man, he’s just a guy. For Fulgur, it is already a miracle that Shu became his friend because holy damn does he hate people. Not in a literal sense (or maybe it is, he’s quite not sure as well), but being surrounded with people he does not know exhaust him. He doesn’t think he can live a life of being surrounded with mobs and managing to smile at them. He’s going to die before he can even move the corner of his lips.
See the picture now? It’s literally two different worlds that Fulgur could never imagine colliding.
If he does imagine it colliding, all Fulgur can see on his imaginative head is a disaster.
“That Violeta boy is never going to be part of my world, Shu. He’s built for what, I don’t know, stardom or whatever the kids call it these days,” Fulgur laughs. The more he thinks of it, the more it gets funnier in his head. It’s not like he’s unfamiliar with this trope. With the amount of fanfiction he read, he knows that this trope does exist, but that’s the thing! Exactly—it’s fanfiction. Fulgur might be a nerd but he’s not about to expect something he read in fiction is going to magically manifest in his real life event, thank you very much.
“You sound like my grandpa but we’re literally in the same grade,” Shu sighs before shaking his head to get back on the main topic at hand. “Listen, listen! You need to trust me in this, Fuu-chan. Uki Violeta definitely has a crush on you!”
Ah, of course, he’s not going to give up that easily. Amused at the eagerness of his friend, Fulgur reaches out a hand to give Shu a headpat.
That seems to be a bad idea because Shu suddenly starts jumping excitedly like a child about to receive sweets and toys. “Fuu-chan, see, see! Uki Violeta is staring daggers at me when you pat my head!”
“Have you been catching enough sleep these days, Shu?” Fulgur entertains, but Shu shakes his head before slamming his palms against Fulgur’s desk to make a point. “You need to believe me, Fuu-chan! Uki Violeta is glaring at me right now! He looks like the b-word!”
“You can say ‘bitch’, Shu.”
“No! That’s Enna’s job,” Shu declines. And then shaking his head again to the main topic at hand, “Fuu-chan, I swear. He looks like he’s two seconds away from pulling a knife out of his sweaters…”
Huh, that is surely a problem. Bringing in knives in school can already get you to detention, but branding it out like a goddamn trophy? Damn. It seems like Shu isn’t really getting enough sleep these days, huh. Oh, well. Fulgur decides to humor him just so they can head home and Shu can get that well-deserved rest (of Valorant hopconning) he deserves. Besides, if this Uki Violeta is really glaring at Shu for no reason (because Fulgur refuses to believe that him giving Shu headpats are considered reasons), then Fulgur really needs to step in-between them. He might not be the most social butterfly out there but Fulgur would always protect the small circle he has against bullies. Him getting reprimanded for punching Enna’s bullies is still fresh in his mind but it’s worth it.
“Alright, where is this Uki Violeta boy so we can lecture him about the bad etiquette of glaring at someone for no reason?”
“There’s a reason! And it’s you patting my head—”
Fulgur turns to where Shu is pointing at.
“He seems fine, Shu,” Fulgur shrugs, bravely staring down at Uki Violeta now staring down at his—what was that—those were his makeups, right? Yeah. Uki Violeta is just busy checking the gradient of his eyeshadow in the small mirror he’s holding and is not definitely glaring at Shu.
Fulgur waits for a few more seconds to see if Uki Violeta will glare at Shu. When the pretty man remains focused on his eyeshadow, Fulgur calmly turns towards Shu to invite him, “Wanna do a sleepover at my place tonight? You look like you need some sleep, buddy.”
“Wha—what?!” Shu cries out. “No! He was really glaring at me—look, look! He’s doing it again!”
Fulgur turns once again and sees Uki Violeta staring innocently at them. When their eyes met, Uki raised his hand to wave at Fulgur and gave him a wide smile. Fulgur, as a normal and functional human being, only tips his head like an old man with a blank face before turning to Shu who has turned into a fish with his mouth opening and closing in disbelief.
“So, Shu, sleepover?” Fulgur laughs. Maybe they both need sleep, after all.
