Chapter Text
Alex didn't think anything more of the fact that they had bitten the werewolf until almost a month later when they found themselves on an evening walk together with Morgan out by their parents farm. And the only reason it came to mind at all was the full moon that rose in the sky and the itching that quickly spread all over them as they started to transform.
As they realized what was about to happen, they tried to put some distance between themselves and Morgan. But the pain of the transformation hindered them from teleporting away and their legs soon gave out too when trying to run away.
Once really started, the whole process was over in a few extremely painful minutes as their limbs elongated or shrunk, their shoulders, back and hips rearranged themselves, a tail grew out, human ears disappeared and wolf ears took their place, mouth and nose connected and reformed into a snout, teeth grew pointer, their long hair receded and instead fur sprouted all over.
As their body transformed, they could feel their mind slowly slipping as well and the werewolf taking over, just as bloodthirsty but with so little control and ruled by its instincts. The beast sniffed trying to locate any prey for a good hunt, preferably human prey. It smelled Morgan close by and then further away, inside the farmhouse, Alex's parents. Deciding that Morgan was the easiest one the wolf started stalking towards them.

As the two of them were walking along the path in the forest, Alex suddenly threw themself away from Morgan and started running away from them through the trees. Shocked, Morgan called after them before starting to follow the trail Alex left in the vegetation. They kept calling Alex name worriedly as they tried to find them, hoping they hadn't teleported away.
Suddenly, screams tore through the night and recognising them as Alex's, Morgan sped up trying to reach them. As they stumbled out into a clearing between the trees, they saw movement in the foliage on the other side. They froze as a huge wolf appeared from the treeline, stalking towards them.
The wolf looked magnificent but Morgan didn't really have time to think about it as the beast snarled and looked like it was preparing to attack. Still frozen, Morgan figured that they wouldn't be able to outrun the wolf anyway and accepted that they would likely die tonight. They spared a thought to Alex, hoping they had avoided the wolf and that the scream hadn't been them being the wolf's first victim.
~~~
The wolf tensed up for the attack sensing that its prey would not run. The resignation to their fate could be smelt on the victim and this calm acceptance triggered something. Before the beast could lash out, Alex's mind snapped back into the forefront as they realized that they had almost attacked Morgan. Completely horrified at having almost hurt and potentially killed the love of their life, Alex laid down in the grass whining sadly.
As they laid there looking sorrowful and staring longingly at Morgan, Morgan seemed to unfreeze and shake themselves off before cautiously walking closer.
"Alex?" Morgan asked, seeming to recognise them even as a wolf. Alex made some kind of affirming noise, Morgan seemed to understand and sat down beside them. They then started scratching Alex behind their ears and just generally petting them.
~~~
The wolf suddenly froze and looked horrified before lying down and staring towards Morgan. The sadness and remorse radiating from the wolf was almost tangible, and something clicked in Morgan's mind.
“Alex?” Morgan said, realizing that the wolf might indeed not be a wolf at all but their best friend. The wolf made a sound that sounded affirmative so Morgan assumed they were correct and started to slowly approach Alex.
Sitting down next to Alex, they started running their hands over Alex to try and soothe both the potential leftover pain from the transformation as well as the sadness and regret they sensed from Alex.
After a while of petting and half-cuddling with wolf Alex, Morgan spoke softly "I would not have blamed you if you hadn't snapped out of it". Alex just whined again, a distraught "but I'd never forgive myself" kind of whine. Morgan just hummed thoughtfully before lapsing back into silence, never stopping their hands from carding through the thick fur that was coating Alex.
~~~
Sometime later, as the night got colder, Morgan started shivering. Not wanting Morgan to freeze, Alex rose up and the two of them walked back to the farm. Alex, failing at transforming back, was resigned to staying wolf-shaped until morning. They didn't really mind though as they got to cuddle with Morgan for the rest of the night as the two of them slept.
When morning arrived, Alex was forcefully pulled from sleep as the pain of the transformation once more descended upon them. Falling out of the bed to avoid harming Morgan didn't make it hurt any less but was way better than risk hurting Morgan.
After a few minutes the transformation was over and Alex was once again human. Deciding that they did NOT enjoy being a werewolf, cuddling aside, they instantly cured themselves of the lycanthropy. Once done they got back into bed with Morgan, deciding to sleep a bit longer before starting the day.
~~~
Next time the two of them woke up, tangled up in each other's arms, Morgan sleepily pressed a soft kiss to Alex's lips. Before they could really begin to panic over the fact that they just kissed their best friend and secret love, Alex's lips were once again on theirs.
After some sleepy morning kissing the two went down to breakfast, holding hands the whole time and sharing soft smiles brimming with their love for each other.
