Summary
One of the crew spots the dinghy first and calls it out, and the others rush to the railing. By the time it draws up to the ship, Lucius is sobbing openly, and even Jim looks stricken. Oluwande and Pete clamber aboard. Izzy is vaguely aware of Oluwande throwing himself at Jim. He’s too busy watching Lucius grab Pete and pull him to him, wrapping his arms tightly around him. Lucius’s body shakes with sobs. They both pull away to look at each other, as if they can’t believe the other is real, then wrap themselves around each other again.
Izzy’s throat burns. His chest feels tight. His head pounds. Jim and Oluwande dash down the ladder, heading for the cabin they once shared. Pete and Lucius follow. Izzy doesn’t know where they’re going. He doesn’t care.
