Work Text:
“This is unfair,” Leo announced, dramatically lying down on the couch but purposefully trying not to move his arm. “This is evil, cruel, and unfair. This is a sign that the gods hate me, actually, and will always hate me for my fantastic, amazing talents and hot looks.”
“Leo, you just broke your arm,” Jason replied, eyebrows raised.
“Yeah, building a machine for a quest. A quest that’s supposed help Hephaestus kids, too. The gods are out to get us, Jason.”
Jason smiled, sitting on the ground of bunker nine as he continued his personal mission: filling Leo’s entire cast with little doodles of anything he thought Leo would like. After the seven’s quest and a lot of intense and deeply needed New-Rome-funded therapy, Jason had decided to try to break free of his child soldier history and instead go to school, and he was proud to say he did exceptionally well in art class. Art had been his favorite subject from day one, helping him discover a newfound talent he’d never expected to necessarily be good at, and as he looked at the little screwdrivers, hammers, stars, planets, and cats drawn on Leo’s cast, he couldn’t help but feel pride; Jason might’ve been a little biased, but he thought they actually looked decent.
“It’s not that bad,” Jason said without quitting his attack on Leo’s cast. “Will says you just need a week for your arm to heal if you take your ambrosia."
“Yeah, a week without working. That’s my worst nightmare, Jason,” Leo said, pouting as he looked at all the unfinished projects surrounding them.
"This is your worst nightmare? Relaxing?”
“You judging my fears now, Sparky?” the coily-haired boy teased, lifting his eyebrows.
“Of course not, but—” Jason scrunched his nose as he focused on his doodle of a shark, “—you need a break, man.”
Leo shrugged. “Probably do, now I will.”
Once Jason finished his shark doodle, he moved to sit next to Leo, who was still sprawled on the couch. “C’mon, man. What’s something you’ve always wanted to do that didn’t have something to do with… all of this?” He waved around at the thousands of projects and machines around them.
Leo shrugged. “Dunno.”
“Well, what’s something you usually do when you’re not working?”
Leo rolled his eyes. “I don’t know, man.” He sat up and poked at Jason’s side. “I spend all my free time with you.”
“That’s..."
“Gay as fuck?” Leo offered.
"Really sweet, actually. I like spending time with you.”
“Ew, gross. You like me or something?”
Jason rolled his eyes, his cheeks heating up as he pushed Leo playfully. “Shut up, dude.”
“You know I like spending time with you too, Superman.” Jason smiled at that, feeling his heart flutter. It was weird; they’d been dating for three months, and Jason could still feel butterflies he never felt throughout his entire year long relationship with Piper. Small moments like these were plentiful, but Jason could never really have enough of them, addicted to the way they'd make him feel overwhelmed with love to the other boy.
Gods, Jason really loved Leo.
The blond boy thought for a moment before speaking again. “Well… I’ll make a bunch of plans for us this week. We can have a picnic, and we can meet up with the rest of the gang, and we can go bowling—”
“Don’t think bowling’s a good idea,” Leo said, lifting his broken arm.
“Well, maybe not bowling,” Jason replied sheepishly, “but… we’ll have fun. You’ll actually be glad you aren’t working.”
Leo grinned, poking Jason’s side again. “That doesn’t sound too bad.”
“Yeah?”
“I might even have fun.”
"Then it’ll all be worth it,” Jason said. Leo grinned goofily at Jason, his dark black eyes sparkling and a strand of black hair falling atop his face, and Jason is so deeply, hopelessly in love, and all he could think to do was dumbly say, “I really want to kiss you right now.”
Leo’s eyes widened, and he blinked twice before he grinned at Jason again. “What’s stopping you?” And that’s all it took for Jason to place gentle hands on Leo’s face, pulling him in close before kissing him. He moved his hands to lace through Leo’s hair as Leo pulled Jason closer using a single hand wrapped around his shirt. He felt Leo smile into the kiss, and he felt himself falling in love with Leo over and over again, the soft, gentle kiss intoxicating the boy.
When they’d separated, Jason lay his head on Leo’s shoulder as Leo sighed. “I could spend the entire week doing this," Leo announced.
Jason knew this boy was too energetic to cuddle and make out with him for more than an hour, but he simply replied with: “I wouldn’t mind.”
Leo lifted his broken arm, analyzing the multi-color mess Jason had left on it as his smile widened. “Nice art project, by the way.”
Jason moved his head gently to look at his cast. “Thank you. You’re my new masterpiece.”
“So are you gonna pin me against the wall, then?” Leo wiggled his eyebrows, and
Jason wasted no time to elbow him gently. “Shut up, man.” He hid his face in Leo’s shoulder, trying to hide the blush that was creeping its way into his face. Leo laughed and lightly patted his head.
“Hey, I have an idea,” Leo said, patting Jason’s back to make him stand back up. Jason lifted his head and watched as Leo grabbed a red marker from the ground. He tried his best to write on the cast despite not being able to use his dominant hand, and what he came up with was a child-like drawing of a heart with an even more child-like handwriting on the inside that read “Leo +”. He handed Jason the pen, and Jason could tell what Leo wanted him to do. He took the pen and gently wrote down his own name under Leo's. Jason looked at their names and couldn’t help the overwhelming happiness that washed over him.
“This is so gross,” Leo said, laughing as he looked at the small collaboration.
“You’re the one who suggested it.”
“I know. You’re making me all gross and sappy,” Leo rolled his eyes.
“I like it when you’re sappy.”
"And I like you," Leo said, wrapping his hand with Jason's gently.
“I like you too, Leo.”
