Prompt: "The sky was clear when I left."

...

Rex should have stayed in the little paradise he found. At least there he was thought of as more than just a tool. They treated him like a member of the community. He had real food and not just stuff made from the cafeteria. Jacob had seemed truly interested in giving him a home permanently. And he had been tempted to take it.

What stopped him from taking Jacob's offer? Why had he felt the need to leave the compound? These and many more questions ran through his head. He didn't have the answers for any of them.

All he knew was that he was currently walking down the road not riding and it was pouring down rain. Sure he could use his powers and make his motorcycle but it would draw too much attention to himself. He had the feeling that if Providence wasn't there for the event they would soon arrive. Drawing any more attention to himself would bring them down upon his head.

A part of Rex wanted to call it a quits and return to Providence. He had a warm bed there and wouldn't be here in the rain at least. The problem was he still felt betrayed by White Knight and the others. Holiday was the only one who hadn't lied to him. He had gotten over Noah and the other agent's betrayal. He wasn't close with any one of them. There was only one he was close to and that betrayal stung the most.

Out of everyone who could have lied to him why did it have to be Six? Six was the one person he truly trusted in Providence. The lying from him and broke something in Rex.

A sneeze escaped him. Ugh, he was going to have a cold when he got out of this rain. Rex was startled suddenly when something warm was suddenly tossed over him. On instinct be grabbed it and found it was a very familiar green jacket.

A dry voice said, "You should have stayed with them until the storm passed. I told White that you weren't there."

"The sky was clear when I left," muttered Rex under his breath knowing that Six would hear.

Six stepped up so that he was now shoulder to shoulder with Rex. Even knowing that the man's jacket was currently laying over his shoulders it was still a surprise to see him in only his dress shirt and pants. It took him a second longer to realize that he wasn't even wearing his usual tie.

"Who are you and what have you done with Six?"

Six gave him a look that told Rex exactly what he thought of the attempt. Then he turned his head back to stare out before them. It was then that Rex noticed that there was no sign of a jump-jet. How in the world had Six caught up to him? Even his hoverboard was nowhere to be seen.

"Where did you even come from, Six?" He asked.

Six raised an eyebrow but answered, "I left my jumpjet a little ways back. Then I jogged to catch up. You might have noticed if you were lost in your own little world."

Rex scowled at that and then looked away. So what if he was lost in his thoughts? Another sneeze racked through him. He missed the concerned look Six gave him as he righted himself.

After a few minutes of silence, Six asked, "What were you thinking about? Must be something serious if you aren't on your bike."

Rex answered coolly, "My options. What I wanted to do next."

"You could have stayed back there. They seemed like good people."

Rex paused and looked at Six. Six paused next to him and turned so that they were facing each other. Once again he was reminded of why he had left. Could he really place his trust back in this man? After he had lied to him?

No matter how hard he tried to hold onto the feeling though it slipped away. He couldn't stay angry at Six. His full anger wasn't even directed at Six. It was directed at himself for not being able to see the truth.

His head dropped suddenly and his shoulders hunched. Damn it. Why did this have to happen? Why couldn't he simply be normal?

:If you were normal you'd have never met Six,: came an unbidden thought.

Six said his voice sounding uncertain for once, "If you want I'll leave Rex. There is no reason to try and force you back."

Rex glanced up and made his decision, "Did you mean what you said? Did you mean it when you said that we would look for into my past together?"

Six muttered, "I told, White lying was a bad idea," louder he said, "Yes I did and still do mean it. Even if you decide to keep going we will keep looking. Holiday and I would find a way to contact you should we find anything."

This was one of the few times he had to see the emotion on Six's face. Pure honesty and a hint of something else that he couldn't identify. Alright. He didn't have Rex's full trust back but he'd take the peace offering. This time.
