Chapter Text
In the midst of a wonderful nap, Kirby is awoken by a noise.
It's ringing, loud enough to wake him up yet faint enough for him to be unable to find the source. He looks around his house in confusion, checking even the chimney in his search.
The ringing stops.
Relief slowly overtakes the confusion, and Kirby begins to walk to bed, trying to recall the sweet taste of candy in his dreams.
Ring, ring, ring!!
Snapping out of his half-awake haze, Kirby crouches down to get a look under his bed. He can see the faint color of his phone, buzzing against the floor as its screen illuminated the bottom of the bed.
Kirby grabs it quickly, pressing the answer button without much thought. It's not every day he gets a call, after all. Maybe a friend wants to play.
He's quickly proven wrong, though.
"KIRBY!!" A fierce voice echoed through the phone. A commotion can be heard as well, causing Kirby to move the phone away from his face. "We require your assistance. You have experience with spheres, right??"
A little away from the fierce voice, a softer one begins speaking.
"Zan, what does it eat?" The softer voice lets out a yell, and Kirby can hear the loud clanking of glass.
Another voice appears amongst the chaos, and Kirby struggles to make out the words. He recognizes a few "choice words" from Flamberge, followed by Francisca saying something in a rather harsh tone.
"Silence!! I'm trying to converse with the pink one!" Zan yells.
Yet another voice joins the chaos, a whimper evolving into an otherworldly sob. Kirby's face scrunches at the loud noise, and he can hear Zan's sisters yelling something unintelligible.
Kirby has a lot of phrases on his mind right now, but he settles on one after some thinking.
"Are you guys okay? Is there a bad guy, again?"
The commotion gets quieter. It seems Zan ran to another room.
"You have experience with the fluffy god, right? Can we come over to your house for assistance??"
Kirby doesn't respond at first. He's too confused to really think of anything, and the only thing coming out of his mouth are curious little chirps.
Fluffy god…?
"Yeah!" Kirby isn't capable of elaborating at the moment, so he settles for this.
"Alright, Kirby. I'll bring you a treat for your assistance." Kirby perks up at the mention of a treat, wondering just what it'll be. "Thank you. I will be there shortly."
Click. The phone hangs up.
Kirby stares blankly as he begins to process the myriad of emotions that conversation gave him.
Fluffy god…? Sphere? And, there was a lot of commotion back there…did something happen? I don't wanna fight a guy like that. But at the same time, it sounds like it's just causing a regular ruckus and not a universe-threatening ruckus. Actually, why is it back? What's going on?! What's that copycat doing here??
Kirby places his phone on the bed. He begins pacing around his house, getting lost in his thoughts. The only thing he can do is wait and see what happens.
Just as he begins to grow bored, Kirby hears a knock.
He wastes no time in running to the door and opening it, still curious from his time spent thinking.
At the door stood Zan Partizanne, carrying a small peculiar fellow in her hands. It was spherical in nature, and looked much like Kirby (minus the arms and legs). It stared blankly at Kirby, who could only stare back in silence.
"Thank you for allowing me to visit, Kirby."
Once Zan is inside the house, Kirby continues to stare at the orb as he closes the door. His eyes track it like a hawk, and he returns to standing in front of the mage a bit quicker than usual.
Zan sits down. Kirby tenses up a bit once he notices the orb reacts to Zan's movement.
"Francisca and Flamberge are at home, tidying up our base…" Zan sighs, seemingly tired from the commotion. "Do you happen to know how to stop the sphere from getting upset?"
Kirby doesn't respond, staring deeply at the sphere. Trying to do what Zan requested, he reaches out for the orb. Zan hands it to him without a word.
It's uncanny.
It looks just as how he remembered it, only it's small enough to be held by him. It no longer cycles through faces, only staring blankly with that expression. It puts a bad taste in Kirby's mouth. It's not attacking, but he remembers everything. That face doesn't belong to it.
"Oh, right. Here's your reward, Kirby." Zan produces a Lollipop from her pockets.
Kirby, who was already beginning to be lost in his own thoughts, remembered the treat he was promised. Chirping happily, he reached for the lollipop.
Void's eyes locked onto the candy as Kirby reached over him to grab it. Kirby was quick to notice the sphere babbling something at the Lollipop…almost as if he wanted it.
Kirby tentatively unwrapped the lollipop, holding it in front of Void's face as he supported it with his other hand.
"Do you want this…?" He asked.
Void babbles something again, this time louder than before.
And then it chomps on Kirby's arm, lollipop and all.
Kirby and Zan react with surprise, and Zan begins to move closer to Kirby in an attempt to remove Void from Kirby's arm. Kirby stops the mage with a chirp, and focuses on Void.
He looks…happy.
Sure, he's slobbering all over Kirby's arm right now…
But he's happy.
It smiles contently, ignoring everything around it.
"Are you seriously okay with him…?" Zan trails off, still taken aback by it. "Right. Fine. I guess that's how to stop him from getting upset."
Zan stands up, stretching for a moment.
"I'm gonna get the orb some nourishment. I'm also getting you another treat, since the afformentioned orb ate it. Are you capable of looking after it while I'm gone?"
Kirby looked up at Zan before nodding, a gleeful smile on his face.
It's not attacking anymore…it's even having fun. Maybe he's a new friend…!
Kirby could see a sparkle in Zan's eyes, as if she were smiling.
"I see. Best of luck, Kirby." And just like that, Zan had left.
Kirby glanced over at the sphere in his arm, still chomping happily on his other arm. It seemed that it hadn't even noticed Zan leaving.
"I'm gonna show you everything cool about Dreamland." Kirby kept his voice down to avoid upsetting the sphere.
As if snapped out of a trance, it turned upwards to look at Kirby. For a moment, Kirby wondered if he had upset Void, but that thought quickly died down as the orb continued to stare blankly at Kirby.
"What's your favorite food? Is is lollipops?"
No response. It didn't even open it's mouth to try, it just stared blankly. Kirby didn't mind, assuming that Void simply didn't understand what he was saying.
Kirby stood up, clutching Void with both of his hands now. He set the sphere on his bed, and after a brief moment of consideration, took his phone from the bed so that Void couldn't shove it in it's mouth.
As he shoves it under his bed again, he hears a quiet noise from the sphere. Kirby wastes no time in checking on it, and he finds Void closing his eyes as he laid on the soft blankets.
"Do you like the bed?" Kirby asks, not expecting a response this time.
the sphere smiles, the ends of it's mouth curving up in an all too familiar way.
Kirby swalloed down all of his worries again as he reached under the bed.
When he returned, he came back with a mint green sleeping cap.
"It's yours, okay?" He spoke softly as he placed the sleeping cap on Void. Kirby smiled warmly in response to the orb's happiness, seeming content with the hat despite it being too large to fit him.
Before Kirby can really process it, Void falls asleep. It's face seems to have disappeared entirely.
Kirby whispers one last "goodnight" before sitting himself down on the floor. He let's out a sigh, and in the same breath, let's out the emotions he was shoving down. It's not a good feeling, but he knows it's necessary.
Kirby's just glad Void isn't awake to see it.
The Void that isn't a rage-filled ball of destruction, and the Void that loves naps just as much as he does.
He feels his thoughts fading into nothing. His body relaxes as he leans against the bed, and although he wants to stay up and look after the orb some more, he knows he must catch up on some much needed sleep.
Kirby smiles as he awaits the sweet taste of candy in his dreams.
When Zan opens the door to Kirby's home, she's taken aback by the silence and peace. Both Void and Kirby are sound asleep, and the house is in perfect condition. Not a single mess was made.
It's nothing like the mayhem that occured at Jambadra base.
Maybe she underestimated Kirby. Maybe she's just worse at god-sitting than she thought…nope, can't be that. Maybe it's because Kirby actually had time to prepare. Maybe it's because that sphere didn't just appear in his living room, completely out of the blue, and began causing a ruckus…!
Next to Kirby, Zan places a bag of snacks before prodding the child lightly to wake him up.
"Nice work, young one. I'm taking the fluffy god home, now."
Her expression is warm and proud as she stares into Kirby, who rubs his eyes awake as he struggles to process what Zan just said.
It takes him a while, but he gets it, nodding blankly to acknowledge Zan. As Zan scoops the orb into her arms, it's body dents as if it were jelly, a lot like Kirby's does. Despite this strange texture, Void stays asleep in Zan's arms.
Zan smiles at Kirby one last time. She doesn't dare risk waking Void even once during their trip back home, so she doesn't say a word as she shuts the door.
Only now does Kirby notice the bag next to him. There's some hard to read lettering on it, but after some struggling, he makes it out to be his own name.
Kirby opens the bag. Inside of it, there's a lollipop…along with a bag of chips, and a bottle of orange juice. He chirps happily, immediately unwrapping and eating the lollipop.
Next time, I'll show it everything wonderful about Dreamland.
