“You should get some sleep.” Pansy said softly as she rubbed Neville’s back. She knew the next few days, possibly weeks would be hard for him and he needed to sleep when he could get it.
“I can’t.” Neville said. He felt like his heart was completely unravelling. There was nothing he or the healers could do. Nothing except bear witness as they sat by his Grandmother’s bed in St Mungo’s Palliative care ward.
“Come on, at least lie down.” she said, she pulled him to his feet and transfigured their chairs into a single cot. She sat down on one end of the bed and motioned for him. Neville caved, he laid down on the bed and rested his head in her lap.
Sleep would not come, but he took solace in the comfort of Pansy’s presence. She gently stroked her fingers through his hair. They said nothing more as they laid there listening to his grandmother's soft yet laboured breathing and the heart monitor slowly beeping.
