Work Text:

swept away, i was swept away with you

dan dropped his bags against the wall of the door of phil's apartment. the windows were uncovered by the blinds, letting the sun bleed stripes against the beige carpet. the sun was bright enough to light the room, and even through the glass, dan could feel the heat on his skin.

"it's nice over here," dan said quietly. his eyes were scanning the rest of the room, looking down into the darker halls of the flat curiously.

"yeah?" phil ran his hand down dan's back gently, his palm resting right above his hip bone. the answer was a whisper, phil's breath grazing the side of dan's ear. he felt dan shiver with the interaction, leaning back into phil's touch.

"yeah."

they were silent for a second, absorbing each other's energies, realizing they would be in the same house, together, for a whole week, by themselves.

dan was convinced he was more scared than phil was, being in an unfamiliar place with someone he'd only met a few times in person. just like the first time they met, he was worried about everything about himself, overly self-conscious even though he knew phil wouldn't mind. he didn't mind the first time, but dan was convinced he would suddenly care when they were living together for a whole week.

phil put his chin on dan's shoulder, wrapping his arms around his waist. there was something comforting in just being in the space of your person. dan leaned his head against phil's. his fears, for the time being, went unheard.

if he were anyone else, dan would tell someone about this. he would post something online, write something cute and vaguely articulate just to tell everyone how lucky he was in this moment. he would call his mother and tell her how it was going, how happy he feels to be so far away from home and being who he wanted to be, even a little bit.

but he was him. so he couldn't. he couldn't be someone who was happy and honest all the time. he couldn't call his mother, or talk to his father. he couldn't share these moments with friends back home, being someone still so alone after 18 years.

phil's head turned to press a kiss into the side of dan's neck, and he realized this didn't need to be something he shared with the world.

it was nice to think about living in the moment, for once in dan's life, and being perfectly content in acknowledging the present as it was, instead of thinking only about the future.
