"Hey, Lena" Steve called over to the wolf, who was lounging across the office beanbag, slightly tipsy.
"Yes, your honor?" Lena asked, his voice ever so slightly slurred. Steve rolled his eyes and waved over the Pepsi addict, who groaned in annoyance before getting up and stumbling over. "The fuck do you want?"
"What does this mean?" Steve asked, pointing to something on the screen. Lena recognized it as their own social media profile, but their vision was a little blurry so they had to squint to see what the horse was pointing to. Upon getting a proper look, he saw the little bit of text under his username : he/they
"My pronouns"
"Pronouns?" Steve asked, growing more confused. Lena rolled their eyes.
"Yeah, you know" he replied, gesturing vaguely. Steve tilted his head. "Those things you learned about in like... First grade"
"But isn't 'they' plural?"
"Okay, riddle me this, pretty boy" Lena replied, getting an eye roll from Steve at the name. "Say you have a friend but you don't know their gender-"
"Why would I not know my friend's-"
"You two just met"
"Then wouldn't it be a stranger-"
"Fine!" Lena cut him off, growing annoyed. "You're at a restaurant with a stranger and this stranger goes to the bathroom" he continued. "The waiter comes over and asks where the stranger went. What do you say?"
"They went to the bathroom. I'm sure they'll be back soon. Maybe get them- Oh, wait"
Lena smiled, seeing that their example worked out. Steve still seemed confused though.
"Wait so I can call you he or they then?" the mob boss asked. "That's what it means?"
"Yup"
"Okay..." Steve muttered. "I suppose that makes sense"
"Yeah?"
"Yeah"
"Cool" Lena replied with a smile before yawning and going back to the bean bag. Steve rolled his eyes.
"What a lazy they"
"Fuck yeah, dude"
