Work Text:
The gang was at Tyler and Taylor's house for the first time as a group. Aiden and Ben had been around a few times by themselves, but the whole group wasn't ever there together, and neither Logan nor Ashlyn had ever visited before.
The boys grouped off to do their own thing, leaving Ash and Taylor alone together, an instance that only reminded them of the place it all started, but that was beside the point.
While looking around Taylor's room, the ginger found a sticker pasted on her desk with a flag on it. It didn't seem like one for a country- It resembled a pride flag more than anything, but she didn't recognize it.
"What's this?" she asked, pointing at it. Taylor walked over and chuckled.
"Oh, that's a pride flag"
"Well, I got that, but I don't recognize it"
"It's um..." Taylor contemplated how to word this in a way that wouldn't get lost on the other girl. "Do you know what a demigirl is?"
"A demi-what now?"
"Okay, so are you at all familiar with the gender spectrum?"
"It's like..." Ashlyn drew a line in the air. "Girls are on one side, boys are on the other, and then nonbinary people are in the middle"
"It's a little bit more complicated than that but yes that is essentially what I mean" Taylor confirmed. "So, a demigirl would basically be in between being a girl and being nonbinary" she explained. "Not fully a girl but not entirely nonbinary either. Does that make sense?"
"Yeah" Ashlyn replied with a shrug. It made sense. If gender was a spectrum, she supposed there would be in-between points beyond the main three. "So... That's you?"
"Is that okay?"
"I mean, yeah. Obviously" Ashlyn replied. "If that's how you want to label or identify yourself, I don't think there's an issue with that"
"Thanks"
...
"We should check on the others"
"Yeah" Ashlyn agreed with a laugh. "Only a matter of time before Aiden sets your kitchen on fire"
