"Jesse, what the fuck is this?"
Jesse turned around to be greeted with a phone screen- Lake was signing up for a social media account to get back in contact with Tulip. The sign-up process had been going smoothly until they reached the gender question : Were they male, female, or "other"?
"Well, what do you identify as?" Jesse asked with a small and patient smile as Lake thought over their answer.
"Tulip is a girl" they started. "So I feel like that's what I'm supposed to say, but I also know that doesn't feel right" they explained. "But I also know I'm not like you- I'm not a boy... I don't know what the language for what I am is"
"Well, there is an 'other' option"
"Yeah..." Lake replied, clicking that one and continuing with the sign-up process. They filed away this situation to the back of their mind, noting to look into it later. "Thank you for not being weird about this"
"Why would I?" Jesse asked rhetorically. "I just want you to be comfortable. Besides, it's silly to try to force someone into a box if they don't fit it"
"Couldn't agree more, Cosay"
