Chapter Text

"I just broke up with Sora and... actually wait, why am I talking with you about this?"

"I don't know, you tell me? Tai has been moping since you texted the news..."

"Huh? Why would he be moping about my break up?"

"And here I thought you were the not the oblivious one..."

Kari could only watch Matt pace across their living room and kitchen, mumbling to himself as he did. Sighing, the brunette curled up in her arm chair, knowing Tai would be back home soon and the two of them could talk it out... hopefully. She had an idea as to why her brother reacted to fiercely to the break up (when it didn't really involve him) but she didn't want to assume, so she let Matt into their home and let him vent for what felt like hours while her brother was away doing who knows what. For one, Kari wished Davis didn't love soccer as much as he did...

"... you believe that he sounded more sad about my break up than I did over the phone?"

"Yes." she was oh so very tired, looking up at him with a subtle glare TK told her was actually quite scary. Kari didn't think so but well... she did learn a thing or two from Gatomon. "Yes, I can. Matt... please... just talk to him. And no, don't you dare bring up how you think TK and I would make for a great couple. That's neither here nor there right now."

It's not that Kari disliked the younger blonde - the opposite, really - but she never truly viewed him in that way... not really. But it wasn't something Matt had to know about, she always saw those not so secret glances he would give his brother these past few months, as though he was simply waiting for him to confess to her. Honestly, she was amazed he had the time to worry about their non-existent romantic relationship when his own was falling apart along with a moping best friend but well, Kari wasn't about to tell him that.

"Talk to him?" the older blonde acted like she just told him to go to space or something. "What would that accomplish? I just... wanted to vent, that's all."

Kari bit back a few choice words that would have left Tai shocked before returning to her book.

"Right... do that."

"Anyway, can you believe that I felt a slight hint of happiness in his voice at the news? I know he liked Sora ever since were kids but that was just..."

And so he went on and on. Tai couldn't be home any sooner...

After what felt like hours, Kari could hear her brother's voice as he entered the apartment. She could also see Matt freeze before relaxing on the couch he decided to sit on after finishing his most recent rant ... and suddenly, an idea popped up in her mind.

"Well, you two, I will be going now." with her usual cheerful voice which betrayed only a small amount of annoyance with their situation, the child of Light stood up and left the book, now finished, on the table. "Enjoy your chat."

"Wa-wait! Kari!"

Moving past Tai, she ignored his cries for help as she leaned down to put her shoes on to finally escape this mess the older siblings got themselves into.

"Sorry, no can do, I'm hanging out with TK, Davis and the others. They just recovered so we thought it would be nice to have a picnic, just between our group. I'm sure we will have plenty of chances to hang out, all of us, but for now, I hope the two of you resolve... whatever this is."

With that, she swiftly left before her brother could come up with excuse as though his conflicting feelings about Sora and Matt weren't as obvious as the sky being blue was. Well, she would leave them to it, since she had a picnic coming up soon. They were adults and could handle it, in her opinion, and if not ... well, time would tell.

For now, Kari just wanted to eat those noodles Davis started working on recently. No better way to spend a Friday afternoon.
