Old Connections

Summary:

Igarashi thinks about his encounter with Mima-san in the park.

Notes:

I wanted to write something for this series since no one has yet. I've never actually written stuff like this before, so please be kind! I hope you enjoy it even if it's short.

*Edited the format and writing a bit (2022/11/14)

Work Text:

It was late as Motoharu walked into the hotel he was staying at. He sat down, pulled out the journal he used to keep track of his story ideas, and set it down on the desk in front of him. He couldn’t believe that he had run into Takayuki tonight, the encounter had been the only thing on his mind as he made his way back to his hotel.

Mima Takayuki was a bit of an odd guy at times. That was a conclusion that Motoharu had made the first day he had met him. So when, years later, they had met once more due to a business meeting involving a movie adaptation of one of his many novels, he wasn’t all that surprised to find that Takayuki seemed to think he was some kind of psychic rather than just his childhood friend.

That guy. He leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes.

Although, if he had to be honest, the idea that he didn’t remember him had hurt a bit. The guy that had been his reason for writing his very first novel. His first reader. So what if the idea of him not having as much of an impact on Takayuki as Takayuki had on him hurt? That was normal wasn’t it? But thinking about that conversation in the park, the use of his first name… He had definitely remembered their time together.

Takayuki remembers me. Maybe that shouldn’t make him as happy as he is, shouldn't make him smile as big as he is, but something about it made sparks flair in his chest and color dance across his vision. He remembers his heart beating when he had looked over to see him laughing, the way he had wanted to grab a hold of him before he had left. For just a second longer. To grasp the time they couldn’t get when they were just kids.

Ah. He opened his eyes to the site of the hotel ceiling. So, I guess that childhood crush hadn’t just been fleeting.

Maybe he should have realized that when he had actually been talking to him, or when he had booked a hotel in Tokyo to 'check out the city', or when he had made the decision to move in the first place all because of that guy. Maybe it should have been during that first marketing meeting when all he had wanted to do was look at him. Maybe he should have noticed the second he had made eye contact with him, when his first thought had been that the guy he was looking at reminded him of Takayuki. Who would have thought that the guy who inspired him to grab onto his dreams had managed to grab his heart in the process. He felt the smile on his face as he turned to look out the window at the city beyond him.

New connections. The view suddenly felt a bit different then it had to him before. The lights seemed to shine a bit brighter. Maybe, it's the old ones I’ve been really missing. It was then that the feeling truly hit him. Moving to Tokyo is gonna be one of the best decisions I ever make.
