Work Text:

"Kung Lao, hurry up he's almost here!" Kung Lao's mother shouted out from wherever in the house she was. The shouting didn't help Kung Lao get dressed any faster; in fact, it made Kung Lao go slower as he tried to slip on his shoes. Kung Lao's hands were extremely shaky and he's glad that they weren't this bad when he had done his hair.

When Kung Lao finally got his shoes on he jumped up from the floor and speedily went out to find his parents and sister. To no surprise Kung Lao's who family was rushing all around the house trying to do some last minute things. Kung Lao tried to stay out of the was of anyone but it was kind of hard with so many people coming in and out of the place. Honestly this just made Kung Lao feel horribly sick and not want to meet lord Raiden at all.

"Oh there you are! Come on you're wasting time." Kung He Fan, Kung Lao's mother, said as she pulled Kung Lao out of the house. Kung Lao tried to keep up with his mother but she was practically dragging him out of the house. There wasn't really anything Kung Lao could do so he let himself be dragged out into the front yard where a lot of the family was waiting. Everyone was starting at Kung Lao and it wasn't even all of the family: all of them would make it worse.

The main Kung family gathered in the front wich included Kung Lao; obviously, his mother Kung He Fan, his father Kung Lin, his sister Kung Ai Ai, and some of the closer aunts and uncle plus their families. To say there was a lot of them would be a horrible understatement.

It wasn't a long wait before the sky became overcast and the crackling and booming of thunder sounded out lord Raiden's arrival. Kung Lao swallowed his nervousness as he was finally face to face with lord Raiden. To be honest he was not at all what Kung Lao expected, he was still very intimidating. Lord Raiden's eyes glowed a pale blue and he had a serious face showing no signs of a sort of smile.

"Lord Raiden, we humbly welcome you to our home." Kung Lin spoke up as he bowed down to pay his respects. Kung Lao couldn't help but stare at Raiden in complete fear of the god before him.

"I am honored for this day to have come and thank you and your family for inviting me." Lord Raiden said humbly but his face still stayed serious. Kung Lin nodded his head and let his formality slip so that he could properly ease the tension.

"As you know, this is my wife He Fan, Daughter Ai Ai and of course my Son Lao." Kung Lin said reintroducing lord Raiden to his immediate family. Raiden nodded his head asgain as he looked down directly at Kung Lao. Kung Lao shuffled around a little as Lord Raiden's staring made him severely uncomfortable, luckily it didn't last long as the rest a the family started to swarm and greed lord Raiden.

Kung Lao slipped away from the crowd so that he could get some freedom for a bit: he just needed some time to think. Kung Lao sat down on the grass a bit away from the sworm of people that were talking amongst each other. While Kung Lao could still hear his family pretty clearly they were far away that he could have some peace.

As Kung Lao stared off into the distance he lost himself into his mind. The wind blew around him in a light breeze and the chattering became all one big white noise. Kung Lao picked at the grass as things came to front in his mind, some things he really couldn't believe and didn't know how to believe.

Kung Lao blinked away the bittersweet tears as he cleared him mind: he shouldn't feel so emotional he should feel happy about this. Kung Lao had to wipe the tears away as his mind couldn't stop with the sad thoughts.

"How old are you Kung Lao?" Lord Raiden asked. Kung Lao jumped forgetting about everything he had just been doing. Kung Lao stared wide eyed up at lord Raiden who was now crouching down.

"I'm uh eight." Kung Lao said with a small and quiet voice; 'way to show weaknesses.' Kung Lao thought as lord Raiden nodded his head, there was a long bit of silence before another word was spoken.

"Who did this to you?" Raiden asked as he reached his hand out to touch Kung Lao's face. Kung Lao instinctively pulled away and squeezed his eyes shut but quickly corrected his behavior.

"It's nothing." Kung Lao said defensively as he cuped the side of his face. Lord Raiden frowned and Kung Lao was scared that he was mad at him; however, lord Raiden offered Kung Lao a smiled as he decided to take a seat on the grass. Kung Lao gave lord Raiden a weary smile back still very untrusting of him. Once again silence fell upon them and no words were spoken. Kung Lao moved around uncomfortably as his previous thoughts were still stuck deep inside his head. There wasn't really anyway to stop them other than to address them righy then and there.

"Can I still see my sister even though I'm going to live with you?" Kung Lao finally asked and it felt good to have that burden knocked off his shoulder. Lord Raiden smiled fondly at Kung Lao as he nodded his head.

"Of course you can Kung Lao, you could see anyone you wish to while you live with me," Lord Raiden paused as he leaned down to talk quiet so that only Kung Lao could hear. "Just make sure to keep up your training, okay?" Lord Raiden said. Kung Lao gave lord Raiden a small smile and nodded his head.
