    Layla breathed deeply, still surrounded by the warmth and comfort of the duvet around her. Slowly, she let her eyes open into thin slits as she looked across the bed where her husband lay. The sun was filtering through the window over them, bringing her back to consciousness.

    But Marc was already awake, laying perfectly still as he watched her in the quiet of his flat. There was something in his expression that put her on edge, the way his eyes kept gazing over her, as if he had just seen her for the first time and was only now assessing her. His eyes loomed back up, meeting hers in a strong stare. Layla felt the distinct urge to cover parts of herself up with the duvet. As if he were some stranger watching her.
