Work Text:
Just tell her.
That’s what Peter kept repeating to himself in his head. Here he was, standing in front of his girlfriend Michelle Jones Watson, the one who no longer had any memory of him, and he couldn’t get the words he wanted to say to her out.
“Uhhh..are you okay?” Mj asked him when he didn’t say anything. “..can I get you something?”
“Um, sorry,” Peter stuttered. “My name is Peter Parker, and I..”
Just tell her, his mind screamed at him. Tell her. Tell her. TELL HER!
“...would like a coffee, please,” he said instead.
“Okay,” Mj replied, walking off to get his coffee.
Dumbass, he thought to himself.
He looked over to where his best friend Ned Leeds sat, eating a donut and scrolling on his phone. He quietly wished to himself that Ned would turn around and start talking to him. But, of course, it didn’t happen.
“Here’s your coffee,” Mj said, handing Peter his cup of coffee. “Can I get you anything else?”
Peter felt the letter he wrote in his pocket grow heavier. “Um…”
He took it out of his pocket, but held it in his hand so Mj couldn’t see it.
“No, that’s it, thank you,” he ended up telling her, taking the coffee and beginning to walk out.
“Okay then,” Mj said, walking over to Ned. “Have a nice evening.”
When Mj fully turned her attention to Ned, Peter quickly walked back over, dropped the letter on the counter, and ran out the door before Mj could notice him.
Hopefully she reads it, Peter miserably thought to himself.
-
“Um, did you see that?” Ned asked Mj while she was scrolling on her phone.
“See what?” Mj replied.
“That guy you served,” Ned pointed to something on the counter. “He left you something.”
“Huh.” Mj went to walk over. “Maybe it’s a tip. Could always use more of those.”
But instead, she found a folded piece of paper. She picked it up and flipped it in her hands.
To MJ was written on the back in neat handwriting.
“What is it?” Ned asked.
“It’s…” Mj said cautiously. “A letter.”
“A letter?”
“Yeah,” Mj stared at the folded paper.
“Weird,” Ned shrugged and went back to eating his donut. “Maybe he’s a creep.”
“Maybe,” Mj replied, gently putting it in her pocket.
While Ned made a good point, she had a feeling it was something different. Something important.
-
When she got back home, she took the letter out and held it in her hands.
To MJ
She read the words over and over again.
Just open it, Mj thought to herself.
She didn’t know why, especially because she was dying of curiosity, but she didn’t open the letter. Weirdly enough, she couldn’t find the courage to do it.
She opened her phone and sent a quick text to Ned.
Yo, should I open the letter?
from the stalker? Ned replied.
Haha, funny Mj typed back. But seriously, should I? I’m almost dying of curiosity
do it then, but if it has your address or smth like that, then that’s on you
Why would a creep give me a note with my address on it?
idk, but weirdos are weirdos
I guess.
Mj carefully unfolded the letter and began to read it.

Dear Michelle MJ,
You don’t know me. You only know me as Peter Parker, the guy who came in and got a coffee. But the truth is, we used to have something.
Now, I know what you’re thinking to yourself, “WTF?! How could some guy I’ve never met say that to me?” and I can’t blame you for that. However, it’s true. You just don’t remember it anymore because your mind was erased for your own safety.
See, I’m a superhero. An Avenger, if you will. And in order to keep the people I love safe, the whole world had to forget who I am. And one of those people was you.
You made me make a promise to you that when I saw you again, I would tell you everything. So here I am, fulfilling that promise.
I love you.
I love you Mj. I love you. I love your brown hair, and your eyes, and your smile, even if you don’t show it much. I love and admire your intelligence, your laugh, your determination, just..everything about you.
I miss you so much. I miss the way you feel.
I’m sorry I ruined everything. But I hope you and Ned have fun at MIT. Tell him hi for me, okay?
Love
From,
Peter Parker

Mj didn’t know how to feel when she finished the letter.
She wished she knew what this Peter Parker was talking about. She wished she remembered.
She wished she had the words to respond.

Somewhere in the distance, Spiderman swung from building to building, wishing the love of his life would read the words he wanted to say.
