Work Text:
Scribbling and writing her answers on the white paper, An grunted, sighing at the sight of the math problems atop the sheet. Ink stained the edge of the surface as she threw the pen on her homework's page and rested tiredly on her seat. Leaning forward, she gritted her teeth in frustration, rubbing her fingers against the bridge of her nose. Undoubtedly, a headache was starting to form, slowly settling in as a hot, searing feeling began to enter her head.
"Damn it," she murmured, her head feeling like it throbbed with each passing second. The feverish sensation continued to spread, steadily reaching her entire body, and the back of her hand reached to wipe the sweat that came down in rivulets. "I still need to finish these. This'll be a lot easier if I just skip it, but—"
Her voice trailed off as her eyelids clenched shut, the sickly feeling of her body's retreating exhaustion almost bringing her to tears. Exhaling heavily, she scrunched up the paper and thudded her head on the wooden desk, as if that would do anything to end that awful trance.
"An-chan, are you okay? You've been studying for a while now, and you seem exhausted. Will you be alright?"
"Don't worry about me, Kohane. I'll be just fine. All I need is to study these for a bit longer, no? There's no sleep for me, now. A day without rest surely wouldn't hurt, right?"
She said, perhaps a tad too cheerfully for the blonde's liking. That, or she is truly tired of playing her part. But of course, An isn't someone who would give in so, so easily to such negative sentiments. Even if that horrible sense of dizziness and heat was to invade her body, she would not give up without a fight.
Truly a stubborn-yet-lovable girl.
"If you say so."
Kohane sighed, crossing her arms in slight disapproval. She couldn't help but to worry about her dear lover's health. An had always been studying nonstop, sometimes writing the lyrics for their songs, seemingly unaware of the constant strain of doing so. Countless days and nights she had spent to do such deeds. All she could do was to remain silent in worry, the sheer concern whelming her little heart.
Seeing the reaction to her very exclamation, the black-haired girl then tried to laugh her exhaustion away. Standing up, An stretched her arms as she turned away from her girlfriend, trying her best to muster up the energy to form a fake, yet convincing smile of hers. A few cracks came from her shoulders, and some from her back, a sign that she had remained there for too long. Turning her head to look at her beloved, she chuckled, as if everything was alright.
"See? Just needed a couple of minutes to recharge, that's all. Maybe some snacks would be nice, too... and... Ah, my head is spinning, now..."
The girl almost fell to the floor with a loud thud, nearly collapsing from the sickly heat and exhaustion she harbored in her. Her figure was quickly supported by Kohane's arms, which were surprisingly strong enough to hold her up against the ground. Eventually, she threw her onto the bed's surface, the heaviness from her body forcing the blonde to use all her power to move her dearest's body before leaving.
That was a couple hours ago.
Now, here she was, laying still on her bed, a fresh, cool towel atop her feverish brow. Light strokes and pats from her girlfriend's fingers accompanied her body's erratic heartbeat, as if trying to soothe the sickly girl's soul. Slowly opening her amber eyes, she caught a glimpse of the blonde's face, her expression of concern not lost upon her eyes.
"Kohane?" Whimpering weakly in her dazed state, sitting up on the mattress ever so carefully. Blinking a few times, she rubbed her eyelids, clearing up her vision. Her head was throbbing with pain and dizziness, yet the other's presence somehow made her remain calm.
"Ah, you're awake! Do you need anything?"
Kohane flinched at her beloved's voice, the concern evident in those hazel eyes of hers.
"Yes, my homewor-"
The blonde-haired girl pulled her close to her chest, embracing her as she ran her fingers through the older's hair. Lightly kissing the strands of raven and blue, toying with the star-shaped hairpins that topped the ends of An's long, black and loose locks. Entangling her fingers with her hair, she sighed out lovingly, gazing upon An's resting figure.
"An-chan, please get some rest. Don't worry about your homework and all, just take all the time you need."
God, Kohane's voice... It never felt so soothing before. Her breath, her heartbeat, and her embrace... It feels so warm. So comforting. As if she had never felt the loneliness and all the rest of the burden of the world, almost like she was resting in a state of profound serenity. And she did not know when that would change.
"... I-I will. Can you get some tea for me, now? I feel a bit parched..."
Little did she know, a cup of tea already awaits her very presence at the nearby table, made with loving care by her dearest partner. And of course, it wasn't long before the blonde took hold of the teacup on the nightstand, guiding it to An's mouth with a gentle hand. The raven-haired nodded and slowly reached up to hold the cup, fingers touching with the young girl's hand. Her warm lips pressed against the teacup's crease, swallowing the scalding liquid and eliciting a sweet fragrance from the beverage.
Such a wonderful sensation that was.
"Thanks. That made me feel much better," An smiled, weakly laughing with a small cough.
"I'm glad," Kohane chuckled with relief, happy that she was able to be of help. "You'll be fine in no time, so rest assured, alright? Don't rush. You've worked so hard, An-chan, so I think it's time you take a step back and rest up."
An felt her body sink into Kohane's chest, a gentle smile forming on her lips as blood rushed to her face from the feeling of her dear beloved's embrace enveloping her in warmth. And her voice... It's so soft and so comforting, is it not? Shivers ran down her spine, the comfort emanating from Kohane's body now making her tremble with. She was so lucky to have such an adorable, yet beautiful girlfriend. A wonderful girl who would care for her and was willing to help in any way she could.
"Alright, alright. I'll get some rest, but under one condition," she teased, letting go of the embrace they shared. "You'll have to cuddle me to sleep. Teehee~."
"Gladly!"
"O-oh?" Finding herself flustered from the sudden response, a little jolt ran down her spine. That wasn't the response she expected.
It was a surprise, to be sure. But of course, it is but a welcome one.
"Hey, you know I'm going to get you sick, right?"
An stammered out as the other hopped onto the bed, sitting next to her with a small, gleeful grin. Snuggling into the crook of the sickly girl's neck, her arms wrapped around her body, holding her tight, yet she did not mind a bit.
"As long as it makes An-chan happy, I don't mind," she chuckled. Her warm breath tickled the taller's neck, sending a faint blush to dust her cheeks. The warmth they shared was beyond compare, causing the two of them to drift off to the land of dreams.
"Aah... I'm getting a bit sleepy... Night, Kohane."
Giggling, the blonde smiled once again, leaning on her beloved's shoulder.
"Sweet dreams, An-chan."
