Work Text:
Her arm is gone, Luz is gone, King is gone, and Eda just saw Raine collapse onto the ground after the spell. She didnt think that anything could make her freeze and feel like she's coming apart but here she is.
Raine. Seemingly gone as if nothing happened. She was about to break down when she heard the smallest of breaths coming from the weight in her arm and her whole world shifts.
Suddenly in that moment. After seeing Raine go through hell and back for her own safety. For Luz and King who they don't even know for half as long as Eda does. And even then choosing to do everything they can to keep them safe. Her kids. Eda is hit with a wave of emotions that make her heart want to flip inside out.
She clutches Raine with all of her remaining energy and begins to let the tears that have been threatening to push out of her all day, fall. She silently sobs into Raines shoulder and they put their arm around her and allow her to cry.
"Eda?"
"Raine, I" Eda mumbles, tears making her words sound like strangled sounds. "I thought-"
"I know, I know" Raine says. Their smooth strokes on Edas back bringing more comfort than any dream or memory ever could.
"I thought I had lost you" Eda cries. All of her past memories of Raine flooding to the surface and finally allowing her to melt into their arms.
"I'm right here, Eda. I'm fine"
"I know" Eda says moving her hand to cup raines cheek while Raine slowly wipes her tears.
Eda takes a deep inhale "I know. I just. Raine I love you so much. And I dont know know what I would have done if I had lost you because of a stupid plan that didn't even work and I- I feel like these past few days have been the best that I've had since Luz showed up because I felt like we were beginning to have a second chance at our friendship and I was finally going to tell you that I-"
Edas words get cut off when Raine slowly leans in and wraps their arms around her. They both sit there for a while wrapped up in each other. Breathing in each other's auras and space and when Raine finally pulls apart and puts their hand on Edas cheek, Eda says the words that have haunted her since the break up.
"I'm sorry, Raine. I'm sorry for letting this dumb curse ruin our relationship and im sorry I didn't talk to you or let you help. I guess it was my way of protecting you but, I wasn't honest. And im sorry that you got hurt in the process of me making stupid decisions."
While she was talking Eda began to look down and she didnt even notice she had closed her eyes in a flinch to their response until Raine softly held her face and guided her gaze upwards.
"Eda.."
Whatever Eda was going to respond dies on her tounge when she sees the way Raine is looking at her.
Like she's an oasis and they've been hallucinating.
Like she's their only saving grace.
Like Eda is life itself and Raine cant get enough.
Like she's theirs again.
Eda realizes that the reason this look is so familiar to her is because this is the way Raine used to look at her when they had first begun dating and she's floored by the memory.
Without thinking, without considering the consequences or the timing, Eda leans in and finds herself kissing Raine. She begins to regret her decision until she feels Raine soften and melt into the motions and feels a familiar hand move to her hip. A hand almost as familiar as her own. A hand that she held for what seems like a lifetime.
The immediate muscle memory that came to her when she felt them return the kiss had her moving her hand under their ear where she knows they are most sensitive. The movement draws a breathy sigh from Raine and the kiss deepens.
Eda can feel her breath growing short and the urge to break the kiss leaves her reeling because she feels as though the kiss breaking will shatter whatever bubble they had created in this very moment. Luckily, Raine seems to be in a similar situation because the kiss breaks after what seems like forever and not long enough and they are both gasping for air while still holding each other.
Raine puts their forehead against Edas and whispers three words that carry so much meaning, so much love, that Eda can't help but feel her heart soaring at the thought of them.
"I forgive you"
