The last place you'd think to look

Summary:

Just some flirty Jotakak fluff for the drabble meme. Requested by Quantum-Rebellion!

"Hey, Jotaro? Have you seen my...? Oh."

Work Text:

"Hello?"

"Morning, Kakyoin. You and Jotaro up?" Comes the gruff voice of the elder Joestar from the other end of the hotel room phone.

"Yes, sir. Jotaro's finishing up in the bathroom now."

"Good, good. Be downstairs in 15, we're leaving on the hour sharp!"

"Of course. We'll see you then."

The phone clicks on the receiver, and Kakyoin does a quick sweep over the room. Their belongings were meager, since they all had to pack light out of necessity, but the lighter the packing, the more you miss the little things that didn't manage to come with you.

I swear I'm forgetting something,  He scowls, running the mental checklist again. Toothbrush, comb, spare clothes, underwear, socks...

Oh. He lifts a hand to his ears to confirm. His earrings, of course -- He wanders back over to the wooden bedside table, only to find it that it had already been cleared off.

...That's odd. I could have sworn I put them here when I took them off last night, but maybe I put them in the bathroom?

"Hey, Jotaro," He knocks, but the bathroom door is half open anyhow. "Have you seen my... Oh."

The reflection of Jotaro's eyes widen just a fraction, but that's all the indication of surprise he gives as he looks Kakyoin dead in the eyes and slowly lowers the cherry red earrings to the counter, away from his ears.

"... Were you looking for these." He gestures to them as if nothing happened.

Kakyoin claps a hand over his mouth. His teeth sink briefly into his tongue to stop the laughter bubbling.

"Y-Yes, there they are. Th... Thank you, Jotaro." He says, moving into the space to place them back where they belong.

"This might be a bit out of the blue," He starts, wryly, "But did you perhaps want to swap earrings today? Like Polnareff and I do."

"No."

Kakyoin can't not chuckle, then, sliding them into place and watching Jotaro's reflection scowl at him, looking about as grumpy as a muddy dog who just got water dumped on his head. He smiles back at him despite it, affectionate and genuine.

"Alright."

"They look better on you."

Jotaro had been smoking his morning cigarette when he suddenly broke the silence, propped against the car as they waited for the others to finish checking out.

"Hm?" Kakyoin glances up, and it takes a moment to register what the other had said.

"Your earrings."

"…Oh?" He smirks, coming to settle shoulder to shoulder with the taller man. "As opposed to who, exactly?"

Jotaro looks at him out of the corner of his eye, a secret smile playing around the cigarette between his lips. A hand goes to the brim of his hat, tugging it further over his eyes.

"No one in particular."
