Work Text:

Suzu smiled as pulled herself up onto the countertop, crossing her legs as she looked at Eri. She fiddled with her glass of champagne, taking a small sip from it as she watched her girlfriend search for a lighter.

Others had always talked about; The spark, the passion, firey explosions, chemistry, clammy hands, and giddy butterflies, staring up at the sky as they dreamed of the one. Suzu had never really experienced that before, a few small crushes, a fling or two, but none of them had stuck before. As a kid, she had buried herself in romance novels, she'd been a bit of a hopeless romantic back then, trying to find what others talked so fondly about. The closest that she had gotten was running her fingers through her best friend's hair as she braided it, imagining what her cherry chapstick would taste like, the tingle that would travel through her body when their skin touched.

When she was so young, it had been difficult to her place in society, with no exposure to non-heterosexual couples, the reinforcement of gender roles, and whatnot. It'd taken a while to stop searching through the romance books that she read more times than she should've, some of which she was ashamed of reading now. Her first kiss had been with a girl when she had been around sixteen, that was when part of the equation had been unlocked, the giddy butterflies had come in like a swarm, sweeping through her mind allowing her to see things in a new perspective.

Never really having clicked with someone, when she was young she'd always imagined herself living in a small house on the island, preferably in a more reclusive spot on the island, away from the people, not that many would visit, or live in such a remote island of the coast of Okinawa. Growing up, Suzu had always imagined herself alone, besides her cats, of course, as she had some of the worst luck she'd seen when it came to romance, therefore she had never really thought that someone else would be occupying her home.

After meeting Eri, now she had a much better grasp of what others had talked about; The spark, the passion, fiery explosions, chemistry, clammy hands, and giddy butterflies, staring up at the sky as they dreamed of their partner. With Eri it all made sense, kissing her, burying her fingers in Eri's long strands of hair, and watching her eyes sparkling when she got excited, made it seem as though everything was right in the world, it felt like she was floating.

Once they had saved up enough money to move out of their apartment, they found a small house a little closer to the main town than Suzu would've liked, two stories so that on the bottom they could run their own shop. It wasn't much, a single bed and bath, joint kitchen and living room, with a small office that they turned into an art room. She loved watching the world wake up around them from their balcony, hearing the windchimes whistle as the wind rushes by, the excitement has her wondering what the day has in store for her, and Eri for that matter.

She thanked Eri for allowing her to understand everything that the others had always told her about. Since whenever Suzu's with her, it feels like fireworks are going off in the background. Her girlfriend is everything that she could've hoped for, and more, she was glad that she hadn't given up on romance any earlier, or she may have not had it in her to give Eri a chance.

It wasn't the big, flashy, romantic gestures that affirmed it for her, though she did love those, it was instead, the smaller, simpler things that made her sure that Eri was the one, the one that could give her everything that she had dreamed about since she was small.

The way that Eri greets her every morning with a gentle smile and soft kiss, her favorite flower mug filled with warm water so that she can choose which tea she wants to put in it. How their bodies move and work together with ease over daily chores, stopping for quick pecks on the lips. The way that their house welcomes them together, managing to make their house-store combo work, their cats, and the strays that hang around. Eri's artworks are strung around, a canvas often in the works in the small art-room/office. Suzu's love for cooking, the different scents from the many spices and herbs that she buys drifting around. Though most importantly it was how they have each other, and that alone is enough for them.

How they kiss, the way that they hold onto each other, and how they show their love for each other; It's entirely special to them, and no one can take that away from them no matter how hard they may try to.

Even though it was so late at night, the windows in their small house were flung open, the moonlight pouring in along with the sea breeze. Suzu plucked a cigarette from a newly opened pack as she spotted Eri blush, her girlfriend realizing that the lighter had been in her pocket the whole time. Adjusting her grip on the glass of champagne, she slid back off the counter, placing Eri's cigarette in her hand with a soft smile. She loved that they didn't need words to convey each other's wants and needs; they just knew about the other's whims.

"Quite the night, hmm? It's been a while since we've had a night like this." Suzu commented idly, while she made her way to their balcony, she heard Eri picking up her own glass of champagne, and the sound of soft footsteps following her.

"Yeah, the businesses are really picking up, it gets hard to enjoy the night when we're so tired." Eri agreed, Suzu hummed in response as her girlfriend continued to fiddle with the cigarette and the lighter. The night air was crisp, and the sound of their glasses clinking together was just what Suzu needed to relax. As Eri settled down onto their lounge, Suzu rested on the edge of the balcony and was taking a sip from her glass.

Two of their cats were playing in the garden below them, eyes flashing in the darkness. A soft jingling of a bell alerted her of their youngest cat, a mere kitten, as much of a fan as the couple was of letting their cats roam free, their littlest wasn't quite ready. Suzu hummed, fingernails clicking against the wooden railing as an invitation for the kitten to join her.

A soft exhale drew her attention away from the scenery, turning back to Eri. The smoke from the cigarette trialing up into the air. Suzu set her glass aside, moving to straddle her girlfriend, she let out a soft sigh as she shifted around, inhaling the scent of Eri's perfume and soap.

While Suzu cuddled closer to her girlfriend, Eri let out a breathy laugh as the carded her fingers through Suzu's short hair. Eri pulled Suzu closer with an arm, while her other hand searched for an ashtray. Suzu huffed, shifting around so was able to pluck the cigarette from her girlfriend's mouth.

"Mhmm, I want to try it first, you're starting to get me curious." Suzu rolled the cigarette between her pointer and middle finger. "You're being a bad influence on me." She added before placing it in her mouth.

"I could say the same about you, I've never had this much wine in my house before we moved in together." Eri chuckled, taking the cigarette away from her girlfriend, and pressing it into the ashtray gently.

Suzu narrowed her eyes, "It's not just wine, we have a variety of alcoholic options to choose from. And you should be thanking me, there's some good stuff in our collection." She corrected quietly, turning her head away from Eri so she could watch the waves.

"Maybe I should be, but my point still stands dear," Eri rubbed small circles along her girlfriend's spine. "We've both picked up on some habits from each other."

"Neh, that's true, I suppose." Suzu shifted once more, sitting properly in her girlfriend's lap as she wrapped her arms around Eri's neck. "But I don't think that's necessarily bad." She added, smiling as she pulled Eri in for a kiss.

With her eyes fluttering shut, Suzu curled closer to Eri, with the sound of their kitten's bell jingling and the wind in her ears, she couldn't imagine being anywhere else. Not when could have the spark, the passion, fiery explosions, chemistry, clammy hands, and the giddy butterflies, staring up at the sky as they dreamed of their partner. She wouldn't give up the spark she had for the world.
