Work Text:

It was Monday and Class 2-5 was quiet and calm.

It was supposed to be their Science period but their teacher was always known for going absent or being missing like usual so the class went on their own and decided to do some things to keep them occupied for the next hour or so.

Cheong-san was in the corner with On-jo talking about some random thing involving a family trip. Gyeong-su was playing cards with Joon-yeong and Woo-jin while Daesu was snacking on some chips he hid in his locker. I-sak, Ji-min, Hyo-ryung and Min-ji were gathered around talking about the latest gossip they heard from Na-yeon who was outside of the classroom for some odd reason.

However, there was one thing the students of 2-5 weren’t used to.

It was the lack of communication between Lee Suhyeok and Choi Namra and how quiet they were because of it.

Suhyeok was in his chair flipping nonchalantly through the pages of a textbook which already was a bad sign because as Joon-yeong quoted “That bastard doesn’t even touch books and avoids it like the plague and you’re telling me he decides to pick one up? No way in hell.”. Namra, on the other hand, did her Namra thing which was wear her airpods and study like there was no tomorrow.

Usually, around this time Suhyeok would be pestering Namra and asking her out to eat lunch with him or snatch a pod out of her ear to interrupt her study time but today proved otherwise. Not a single word shared between those two the moment they entered the classroom.

“Do you think they fought?” Onjo quietly said into Cheongsan’s ear with a concerned tone.

“I’m not sure, Suhyeok hasn’t told me anything yet.” he whispered back to her.

The chatter is continued by the four playing cards (plus snacking by Dae-su) not too far away.

“Do you think Suhyeok confessed and was shut down by Prez?” Woojin said as he started to draw some cards from his deck.

“No way but it is a possibility…” Gyeong-su pondered while looking at the pair.

“Maybe, they had an argument about something?” Joon-yeong chimed in as he dropped a pair of kings on the table.

“Them? Suhyeok has never gotten mad at anyone ever, especially Namra of all people.” Dae-su said while chewing on some chips.

The gossip spreads to the girls, thanks to I-sak who walked past them and overheard their conversation.

“Girls, did you hear? Namra and Suhyeok are arguing.” I-sak said in a hushed tone.

“No way. They were fine last Friday, better than fine actually.” Ji-min remarked.

Hyo-ryung, the quiet person she is, decided to just nod along with Ji-min’s comment.

Min-ji put her fingers on her chin in a way to show she was thinking and said “Maybe, something else happened.”

All of them turned to look at the two who were minding their own business.

Unbeknownst to them, the two were doing this on purpose to gauge what their reactions would be.

Suhyeok had a poker face but every once in a while he’d let off a small smile hidden by his sleeves pretending to be sleepy. Namra did the same, giving a small smirk but completely disappeared when someone turned to look at her.

Both girls and boys decided they needed to know what happened so they decided in some uncanny fashion to both ask at the same time.

“Suhyeok!”

“Prez!”

They both turned to look at them before looking at one another. They quickly faced away from one another and saw that the boys were by the door waiting for Suhyeok while the girls were asking Namra to come with them to the blackboard to “talk”.

Suhyeok stood up first and went outside by the windows to talk with the boys. Namra removed her airpods and walked up to the girls by the blackboard.

“So…what’s going on between you two?” Cheong-san asked first.

“Nothing? Why? Do you think there’s something going on between us two?” asked Suhyeok nonchalantly.

The questioning continues on to the girls group where Onjo continues Cheong-san’s train of thought to the point it’s uncanny.

“Yes. Why aren’t you guys talking to one another?” On-jo asks in a questioning manner.

“We just haven’t found the time too? I guess he isn’t in the mood.” Namra replied in a calm and collected manner.

It goes back to the boys who are still asking Suhyeok some questions.

“Seriously, man. Because it seems like something happened.” Gyeong-su added.
“Yeah, you always talk to her around this hour.” Cheong-san said.

“Do I now? I never noticed.” Suhyeok said sarcastically with a grin on his face.

“Did something happen after the party, Cheong-san told us you brought her home.” Woo-jin said.

Suhyeok’s face froze and he did his best to recover and not to look suspicious in front of his friends.

“Nope.” He said with a small crack in his voice.

The boys all just squinted at him and continued their questioning. It switches to Namra and the girls who are also asking the same questions.

“Did you just smile?” I-sak asked.

“Hm?” Namra said wide-eyed and shocked at her friend’s statement.

“You smiled, are you lying?” Hyo-ryung teased.

Namra quickly steeled herself and went back to her usual cold expression she was notorious for.

“Nothing, absolutely nothing happened.”

“Why’d you change expressions so fast? Are you hiding something?” Ji-min teased.

She looked at her friend and quickly shook her head to try and prove nothing had happened. It quickly changed to Suhyeok and the boys.

“I’m not hiding anything. Why should I when nothing happened.” Suhyeok said as calmly as possible.

“Are you sure? You’ve been taking glances at Namra since you’ve been standing there.” Dae-su said being right beside Suhyeok.

“Pfft, no.” He gulped in nervousness. “No, I’m not .” Suhyeok slumped his shoulders in response and looked at his friend and eyed him to shut up.

Dae-su looked away with a questioning look on his face before turning towards the staircase to see if any teachers were passing by. Suhyeok just looked at him and quickly turned to Joon-yeong who asked the next question.

“What happened anyways after the party, you never did tell us.” Joon-yeong asked in an inquisitive tone who placed an arm on the shoulder of Gyeong-su.

“Yeah, what happened?” Woo-jin asked with his own question following Joon-yeong .

As Suhyeok took a deep breath to explain, it cuts to Namra and the girls.

“He took me home like usual and he took care of me on the way since I was a little…I was tipsy to say the least so I’m grateful he was there.” Namra said in a calm and cool voice.

All the girls just nodded but it was On-jo who spoke up about a thing she noticed about the girl.

“Prez, I heard from Cheong-san that Suhyeok went to your house last Saturday. Is that true ?” On-jo asked in an innocent tone.

All of the girls just looked at Namra in surprise over the statement who waited in surprise as to what really happened. Namra just looked at her friend and sighed with a smile and began to explain what really happened between the two. It cuts to Suhyeok and the boys talking about what happened last Saturday.

“Look, I went to her house to just check up on her since I know she wasn’t doing so well the night before so I dropped off some food and left.” Suhyeok stated omitting a large amount of details in order to see what their reaction would be.

“You’re lying, man. That can’t be everything.” Gyeong-su said with an irritated tone.

“No, I’m not.” Suhyeok said in a joking tone. “What makes you think I’m lying?”

“With the way you two were acting last Friday, are you sure nothing else happened?” Joon-yeong added with a bit of a teasing in his tone.

Suhyeok simply said a loud “Nope!” with a pop at the end of the word to add to his statement. The same could be said for Namra who ended the girls' questioning by simply saying “he’s my best friend.” and completely making the girls give up on the questioning entirely since this is what she always says.

All of the students in the corridors heard the bells ringing indicating that break had just started so everyone went out to get some lunch and saw the hallway pack instantly. Gyeong-su opened the door and suggested that the boys get some lunch together which they all agreed. The girls would also head to the cafeteria and join the boys on their walk there since they were situated by the door to the left and the boys from the right.

They would all make small talk on their way there. However, what they didn’t notice was both Suhyeok and Namra slowly found their way to each other through the swath of people crowding the hallway. Suhyeok went outside to the hallway right behind the boys and managed to slip away from his friends making their way to the cafeteria but he just wanted to be with Namra just stayed by the open door after she told her friends she ate earlier.

Suhyeok shoved his hands in his pocket and shyly smiled as he made his way to the class president. Namra, seeing him, just rolled her eyes and gave him a tiny smirk. Suhyeok went back inside the classroom which was quite empty and closed the door.

“Hey.” Suhyeok said warmly.

“Hey, yourself,” Namra quickly replied.

“What did you tell them?” Suhyeok asked with a warm smile and Namra leaned her head by the wall beside the whiteboard.

“You’re my “best friend” and nothing happened.” She said with a teasing tone and Suhyeok put his hand on his chest in mock pain. She giggled at the act and Suhyeok, chuckling at this, stood up straight once again.

“Are we really just “best friends”...” Suhyeok leaned in a little closer to whisper in her ear.

“Nam-ra.” Suhyeok said, pronouncing every syllable in her name with a deep voice. He backed away a little after it and leaned his head on the wall mirroring Namra’s position.
She looked down and just smiled at the action and looked up at him.

They just smiled at one another warmly.

“When do you think we should tell them?” Suhyeok said softly while gazing warmly at his girlfriend.

“I don’t think we have to tell them, I know you’re gonna expose us in one way or another.” Namra teased before poking him in the stomach. Suhyeok chuckled at this act and rubbed the spot she poked. They stayed silent for a little bit until Suhyeok suggested an idea.

“Do you want to go to our little spot?” Suhyeok said, slowly grazing a finger alongside her hand. Namra noticed this and grabbed it softly and intertwined it.

“No, I think we can just stay here and relax.” Namra quietly said and slowly swung both their hands together while looking at him.

“Really? You don’t want to eat?” Suhyeok asked with a wide-eyed expression which made Namra smile.

“Yeah, we already ate this morning. You’re always so hungry.” Namra straightened herself and said ``Let's just stay by the window and relax.”

She dragged her boyfriend by the windows and opened a window so she could sit there. Suhyeok followed her and kept their hands intertwined in the event that she might fall and he could easily catch her. They talked, they played, and they were having a fun time overall just being together. Enjoying one another’s presence and talking about what they were gonna do this weekend. Suhyeok wanted to bring her to an amusement park to which she agreed and a date was set.

Unbeknownst to them, Na-yeon was there hiding by the door looking inside the classroom and smiling to herself getting ready to tell the class when they got back from recess about their school’s new couple.

Notes:

The title was inspired by a BTS track from their first album so to any die-hard ARMY's reading this, the overall fic was inspired by the vibes that small track gave me.

I have three other namhyeok projects gathering dust in the bin so wait on them if you can.

Thank you for reading my work and tune in next time!
