Work Text:
Another day, another love confession found in Goro’s locker. He rolls his eyes as he takes the paper, which he can tell that this confession is from someone who isn’t good at this sort of thing. He can tell it’s from someone who’s never confessed in their life from how crumpled and damaged the note is from trying to fold it properly. Normally, Goro would toss this type of thing away, but since it’s so pitiful looking, he supposes he should give it a look. This stranger tried their best after all.
Goro chuckles to himself as he unfolds the note, gazing at the sloppy handwriting inside.
Can u meet me on the roof after school?
Goro blinks once. Then twice. That’s it? This crinkly note only has one line? Some anonymous classmate asking to meet him on the roof after school? He goes to bunch up the note, but he notices something as he starts to ball it up.
There are a lot of smudges and eraser… bits stuck to the paper. Clearly this person had a lot to say and then ended up erasing everything and wrote down can u meet me on the roof after school. Goro wonders who this classmate is. Normally he would assume someone like that damn Kurusu. He’s always trying to get his attention, Sakamoto too, but Sakamoto hates him so it can’t be him. Kitagawa wouldn’t dare write like this… chicken scratch. It’s closer to Sakamoto’s handwriting. It wouldn’t be Takamaki, nor Niijima or Okumura. Definitely not Sakura. He doesn’t think it’d be Yoshizawa either.
Goro decides to take matters into his own hands while he still has time before lunch is over. He marches up the stairs to Kurusu’s class where he slams the note on his desk. “Explain.” He says firmly.
Kurusu looks down at the note and grabs it. “Well clearly, someone wants to meet you on the roof after school.” he smirks. “Did you forget how to read or something, Akechi?”
“Don’t play games with me, Kurusu.” Goro folds his arms. “I’m not interested in a relationship with you, nor will I ever be.” He turns to leave the classroom.
“It’s not me, this time.” he hears Kurusu admit, which makes Goro turn back around. “You should at least hear this person out.”
Goro groans. “I’m not interested.” He leaves after he says that, but the fact of the matter is that he actually is interested. He just won’t ever admit it.
The end of the school day finally arrives. Goro does several patrols around the third floor, making sure Kurusu isn’t anywhere in sight. When he feels satisfied that he isn’t anywhere to be found, he heads up the stairs. Thankfully, Kurusu isn’t hiding in the stairwell, which he was also worried about. He stands at the door to the roof, with a sign that clearly says students are not allowed on the roof hanging off of it. Goro will be sure to tell that to this student that’s called him out here.
He takes a deep breath, inhaling sharply through his nose as he goes through the door. He exhales as he closes the door behind him and folds his arms as he looks around. He doesn’t see anyone. No one is up here! Goro growls as he clenches his fist. “A complete waste of time.” he says, gritting his teeth.
The door swings open behind him and Goro whirls around, surprised when the first thing he spots is that obnoxious blond hair and that bright yellow shirt of his under his uniform. “You wrote this?” he asks, holding the now balled up note in his hand.
“You actually showed up?” Sakamoto’s hand moves to the back of his head nervously rubbing it as he closes the door to the roof.
Goro’s cheeks have a tinge of pink as he steps back. “You…” he swallows thickly, “are aware that students are not allowed up here, right?”
“ ‘Course I’m aware, but since when do I ever follow the rules, Akechi?” Sakamoto rolls his eyes. “Anyway, uh… I…” he fidgets with his bag strap on his shoulder, kicking one leg out. “I didn’t plan for you to… show up.”
“You idiot.” Goro groans, but he can’t help but laugh, much to Sakamoto’s dismay.
“C’mon, dude. Don’t laugh at me!” Sakamoto fusses, his cheeks turning a dark shade of red. “I didn’t call ya up here just to embarrass me…”
“Apologies.” Goro clears his throat and straightens out his jacket. “I’m just not sure what to expect since I thought you hated me.”
“I never hated ya.” Sakamoto looks at Goro in his eyes. “I always thought ya to be special.”
“S-Special..?” Goro stutters.
“Well, maybe more than special.” Sakamoto chuckles. “I dunno, man. I kind of like it when yer paying attention to me. It’s fun to annoy ya.”
Goro can’t help but laugh again, and then Sakamoto joins in as well.
“But yeah…” Sakamoto kicks his leg out again, hands shoved into his pockets. “It’s why I get in trouble sometimes lately. I like it when yer staring down at me.”
Goro folds his arms as he looks down at Sakamoto.
“Yeah like that!” Sakamoto shivers. “Like that. It… makes my spine all tingly.”
Goro drops his head into his hand, shaking it slightly. “What am I going to do with you, Sakamoto?” he sighs.
“Well, I’m hoping date me, but,” Sakamoto laughs. “I suppose we should start at level one, yeah?” he holds out his hand. “Friends?”
Goro smirks as he grabs Sakamoto’s hand, pulling him toward him and kissing his cheek, watching as the blond’s face goes beet red. “I think we could be friends. Perhaps, more than friends.” he smiles. “You need to stop getting in trouble though.”
Sakamoto can’t believe what he’s hearing. Did Goro Akechi, vice president of the student council, agree to date him? He turns to the door after he pulls away from Goro. “Akira!! He said yes!”
Kurusu pops up behind the door, still inside the school. He was eavesdropping and he gives Sakamoto a thumbs up. Goro, of course, glows bright red from embarrassment and from anger.
“Kurusu!” He proceeds to chase him down the stairs, leaving a bewildered, but happy Sakamoto alone on the roof. He just laughs as he follows the two back down the stairs.
