Are We Even Human?

Summary:

The famous "Glamrock Animatronics" were all once human performers at Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex with promising careers, a growing fan base, and friendships sure to last a lifetime. But all good things have to come to an end. One day, an accident occurs in Monty Golf, causing tension withing the band. If you ask any of the employees, they'd say that the band broke up and the company put their robot mascots in their place. But it's clear how similar they acted to their human counterparts, the way they talked when they weren't supposed to, the way they conversed with the guests, the way they were able to form real relationships. Almost as if they were... real humans?

A continuation of my first fic, "To Be Fully Human", but reading that one isn't necessary to understand what happens in this one. Still mostly shippy fluff, but with some coherent plot this time. :)

Chapter 1: Oh, Just Movin' and Groovin' to the Sound of the Beat

Summary:

Three years have passed since the Glamrock's first appearance on the pizzaplex scene. Since then, they've grown in popularity, earning their places as one of the most successful bands in the Pizzaplex's history. To thank them for all the money they've raked in, the company gives them some... unexpected surprises.

Chapter Text

Monty POV:

"Um, this is a joke, right?"

I couldn't believe what I was staring at. Was this really the best that a multi-million dollar franchise like Fazbear Entertainment could come up with? Sure they've had some good ideas in the past, like making us the main band instead of just the opening act, or when they centered the company around Freddy to increase our popularity.

But this?

My band mates were also in various states of disbelief. Freddy stood leaning his hip against the messy work table, thoughtfully chewing his bottom lip with his arms crossed as if he was mulling over what he was going to say next. Chica mostly looked confused, but had a small sliver of excitement shimmering in her eyes as she almost always did. My other boyfriend Bonnie however, had a very different outlook on the situation. He was was joined by Roxy, bent over the work table laughing. The two of them were on the verge of collapsing, wheezing and gripping onto each other for support. I don't know what happened, but one day a few years ago the two went from rivals to inseparable. I just rolled my eyes at the pair.

Oh, what was it that we were looking at you ask?

Five ginormous animatronic animals, each one eight feet tall that were supposed to represent us.

There was a rabbit, a wolf, a chicken, a bear, and an alligator. Beats me how a couple of metal furries were supposed to make people think of rock band.

Leaning onto Roxy, Bonnie pointed at the alligator animatronic and made eye contact with me. He opened his mouth to say something, but burst into another fit of laughter as Roxy lost her grip on the table and fell to the floor, clutching her sides.

The mechanic standing next to the robots shrugged and pointed to Vanessa with his thumb.

"I dunno, we just work here."

He looked about our age, dyed pink hair and oil stains on his shirt.

I was about to ask another question when Freddy uncrossed his arms and spoke up.

"I understand changing to a larger location, but this? Isn't this a bit... much?"

He gestured to the bots with a wave of his hand.

Vanessa sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. Over the years, she seemed to have deteriorated farther and farther, looking more and more tired every month.

"Listen, I know it looks pretty bad, but this is just a part of the upgrades their giving you guys."

I think I felt myself die a little on the inside when I heard those words.

"There's more?"

"Yep, better get used to it Gator. Freddy already knows the details, but managements moving you all to a bigger location, somewhere in Utah I think. Permanent residence and everything."

She paused to yawn and the mechanic standing next to her stared at her quizzically.

"Dude, go to sleep. You look like you're gonna pass out."

Vanessa simply shook her head.

"I'm fine."

She glared at him before continuing.

"As I was saying, you all will be offered permanent residence at the new location since management wants you to be there 24/7 for performances and meet and greets. You'll also be assigned to different attractions in the mall, and these..."

She knocked onto the chest plate of the orange bear, making the mechanic cringe at the loud sound.

"Will be the mascots for each one."

I looked at the blonde security guard and then at the tech who had a cloth in his hand, twitching to clean the purple tinted smudge that Vanessa had left.

Jesus, they were actually serious.

"You all are free to visit the new location before it opens up, the address is on the back of these party passes."

She handed each of us a yellow plastic card with a picture of the bear animatronic's face on it before leaving the room with another yawn. The moment she left, the mechanic hurriedly scrubbed at the bear's chestplate.

Soon, it was just the sounds of Bonnie and Roxy's dying laughter as they also slowly realized the situation. With his back turned to us, I could read the mechanics name off the back of his uniform jacket.

"Was nice meetin' ya, uh... Taehyun,"

I said, casually leaning against the the worktable. The unfamiliar name sounded strange with my Louisiana drawl. Hey, it's not my fault I spent the first eleven years of my life deep in the south.

"What? Oh! Uh yeah, looking forward to working with you guys."

Looking somewhat distracted, he pocketed the cloth before walking up to the work table.

"It's not the best arrangement for you guys I know, but this shit-hole company keeps me employed as long as I keep building them bots."

He scooped some of the tools and papers into his arms.

"I'll see you all at the Megaplex if you decide to take their offer. Officer Vanessa said to visit whenever, but I'm gonna be there this Saturday, setting up in parts and services."

He gave us a small smile before exiting the room as well, leaving me alone with my bandmates.

"So..."

Freddy prompted, looking up.

"So, I think I have to take the offer. I moved out a few months ago and the rents been a pain in my ass. That music school also never got back to me..."

Bonnie answered first, sounding slightly disappointed at the last part.

"Me too."

"Same."

Roxy and Chica said together. I knew they had moved into an apartment together a while ago and they had been complaining about the rent ever since. I couldn't imagine Bonnie trying to take it all on his own.

"I've already signed my own contract."

Freddy looked around at us sheepishly.

"They told me yesterday and I accepted."

I sighed, pushing myself off the edge of the table with my hands.

"I guess that means I'm goin' to."

Saturday rolled around faster than I wanted it to.

I was sitting on the hard subway seat, examining the plastic party pass. The constant sound of whirring machinery was starting to lull me to sleep. It was three in the goddamn morning. The sky was inky black and dotted with stars when I had ducked into the station, reminding me of Bonnie's hair. He had always compared the shoddy dye job to the night sky for some reason. I never stopped dyeing it like that, even after I got better because he seemed to like it all splotchy and streaky.

The address on the back was way farther than I had expected it to be. I would've just taken my motorcycle, but Freddy was always against me riding long distances. I didn't want to listen to a full safety lecture after hours of biking.

Speaking of which, the new location was five hours away! even using the subway, it was ridiculous to expect all of us to ride back and forth every day from the current pizzaplex. I guess that's why they offered us a place to stay.

Before boarding the subway with Bonnie, I looked the address up online (I had to know where I was going of course) and the place was huge. I mean, Freddy told me that they were up-sizing, but I wasn't expecting this. The place even had an indoor waterpark!

Reading the comments on the new “Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex” website. Most of them were overwhelmingly nice, but there were a few nasty ones scattered througout the site. I scowled at some of the rude ones. Who did those jerks think they were, telling us to quit, calling us garbage, saying I’m the worst one in the band. One comment got to me though,

The band would be so much better if they just got rid of that poor excuse of a bassist. I heard Bonnie also played bass. lol we should get him to take the other guys place.

My mood turned sour, but only for a moment as I looked over at Bonnie on the subway seat next to me. I chuckled lightly as I watched his head bob up and down, trying to stay awake.

Without looking up from my phone, I nudged him with my elbow and gestured to my shoulder with my head. He accepted and scooted closer to me, resting his head. I didn’t mind that his bunny ears blocked my view of the screen, he was at peace, how could I tell him to move now?

I sighed against the top of his head, pocketing the device. He smelled lightly of raspberries. Bonnie always smelled nice.

I waited for his breathing to even out, a sure sign that he had fallen asleep, and I pulled out my phone again. A small twitch against my cheek brought my attention back to Bonnie.

“Mhmph… Don’t read those Monts,”

He was barely awake, I must’ve woken him up.

“Heh, well I can’t read nothin’ if yer huge bunny ears are in th’ way, Cher.”

He shifted so his ears flopped right up against my eyes, blind-folding me.

“Good.”

I slid my arm across his shoulders and buried my face in his hair, giving him a kiss before slowly drifting into sleep surrounded by the pleasant scent of raspberries.

We missed our stop.

I'll be traveling to Europe on the 18th. I don't know for how long, but expect updates to slow down while I'm gone.
