Oh He's An Angel

Summary:

Thor introduces his new found friend to the avengers, however there seems to be a common misunderstanding between them all.

Notes:

Thought about this ship while reading a Supernatural/Castiel and Avengers crossover fic and thought these two clueless dummies would be absolutely adorable together, I can already picture them discussing how silly their human friends can be.

Also this is my first time writing the Avengers and Thor is very difficult kudos to everyone who can write him in character because lord is it hard.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Sitting in the kitchen area of the tower Thor sat deep in thought or seemingly deep in thought from Tony’s perspective, the man looked like he just discovered the meaning of life and was ready to take that secret to the grave.

Clint sat near him peeking over at Tony every few seconds as if trying to communicate he too saw the strange look on Thor's face. Steve finally turned around and saw both men staring at Thor confused and coughed, grasping the attention of both Clint and Tony who snapped their heads in his direction. He smiled and coughed even louder and finally Thor looked up to see the Captain looking in his direction. “Thor, you alright?” he asked, breaking the silence in the room.

“Yeah you look like you found the fountain of life” Clint quipped, and Thor let out a chuckle.

“Aye friend, I’ve just been pondering about this wonderful angel I meant previously this day”

Tony laughed, “angel huh? Sounds like Thor here got a crush.”

“That’s nice Thor, maybe you should bring her around huh? She sounds like a real beauty”Steve smiled, patting Thor on the back. “They are! I shall bring them to the next night of the movies.”

And the conversation seemingly stopped there, Thor smiling as he finished his food. Clint shared another look with Tony as the two laughed.

The following day Natasha walked by Thor in the hallway taking note of the god of thunder's soft expression. She’s noticed how recently the god has been in the clouds during training but she didn’t realize just how much he’s changed in such a short amount of time. She stopped in front of him in small shock when she realized just how bashful he’s become in recent times, the man however took barely any notice before the two clashed.

Pulled from his thoughts Thor looked up at the assassin in ghast. “Friend Natasha I apologize, I was not aware of my surroundings.”

“It’s alright Thor, I was the one who stopped suddenly.” She took a moment to look at the man one final time before replying again, “Thor.. are you meeting someone?”

Thor looked taken aback for a split second before blushing, much to Natashas shock, at the accusation. “N-no well” he stuttered out and Nat couldn’t believe just what she was seeing, the god of thunder acting like a bashful schoolboy. “I’ve meant an angel recently, they’re just lovely.” Natasha smiled at the nickname angel, she also noticed the use of they/them pronouns.

“Are they now?” she chirped and Thor, as if a golden retriever shook his head up and down happily, “Yes! You will be meeting them soon!” he replied.

Finding the whole thing amusing Natasha nodded, “I can’t wait” she said.

Bruce mentally prepared himself when he watched Thor, uncarefully, barged his way into his lab, as if second nature, holding a small broken device in his hands and a frown upon his face.

Thor made his way towards Bruce, "Friend, I require your assistance."

Bruce sighed and gently placed down one of the empty beakers he was holding. He moved into another chair and patted the chair next to him motioning for Thor to come sit down, wondering whatever the god could need his help with. Perhaps with midguardian culture?

"What do you need?" he asked, watching as Thor took a seat and placed the broken device in front of him. "I seemed to have damaged my communication device in yesterday's battle and need assistance in fixing it."

Bruce took a look at the broken pieces in front of him, jeez if anything it looked to be completely done for. "Jeez I don't know Thor, have you asked Tony? he's probably better with stuff like this than me."

"I have not thought to search out man of iron" Thor smiled patting Bruce on the back, "perhaps I shall ask him instead!"

Bruce nodded picking up the broken pieces to hand back to Thor before staring at the large man quizzingly, "What do you need this thing for anyways, last time I checked you didn't care all too much for 'midguardian' technology."

Thor, now blushing red, fumbled with the pieces in hand, "I've been talking to my friend, they're an angel.”

“An angel huh? Must be a real nice gal” Bruce smiled nodding along as Thor talked. “Oh they are.” Thor encouraged before making his way out of the room to find Tony wherever he was.

Everyone patiently sat in the common room discussing what they should spend their time watching, Natasha sat patiently next to Clint as he and Tony were in a heated argument over which Star Wars movie was better while poor Steve tried to calm them down. Bruce off to the side watching with disinterest.

“I’m telling you I’d rather die than sit through the prequels-” was all that left Clint's mouth before the loud blaring alarms of the tower interrupted both him and Tony. Bruce stood up in shock along with Clint and Natasha, who both looked more alert, turning over to Steve who with worry on his face looked over to his side, “Tony?” he asked, receiving a shush to the face, Tony sat up abruptly and yelled through the alarms “hold on! Jarvis?!”

“Apologies sir there seems to be a breach in the tower, my scans cannot recognize them.”

Steve moved Tony to the side, “Which floor Jarvis?”

There was no reply, so Steve repeated, “Jarvis which floor is it-” he stopped at the familiar ding of the elevator doors. Out walked a dark brunette man wearing a long beige trench coat, who looked about as confused as the others felt at having such an ordinary man walk right in under Tony's defenses.

The man turned to face Steve, looking him up and down, then crossed his arms, peaking around the room as if looking for someone in particular.
Finally he spoke in a low voice, “I am here for Thor Odinson.”

It was Tony who spoke up next, “What did you do with Jarvis and what do you want with Thor?” Natasha by his side prepared herself for a fight, even though it looked like the man wasn’t much of a brawler, he actually looked pretty ordinary, wearing a suit and tie. Clint and Steve did the same though they were much less discrete about it, and Bruce looked off the side analyzing the strange man before them.

“Jarvis? I am unfamiliar with that name” he spoke, taking a step forward, “and my intentions with Thor are none of your business.”

Steve stepped up, lifting his chin, “I think it is our business when it concerns our friends.”

The man looked even more confused at that response, “friends?” he questioned, he once again looked the group up and down, much to Tony's dislike, and nodded to himself, “then we are not here to fight, my name is Castiel, I am an angel of the lord.”

And with that the room went silent, then Tony laughed, “Excuse me? Is this some kind of joke?” The man turned his head to the side as if questioning what a joke even was, “Of course not, I understand for humans it’s a little hard to believe however-”

Castiel paused and in walked Thor, who looked rather more dressed up then normal, he was fixing his shirt when he looked over towards the group face brightening in surprise, “Friends! I see you’ve meant my angel!” he yelled over at them.

Clint stopped and straightened up “wait wait wait, this whole time you meant him!”

Thor walked over to the man named Castiel, who looked rather relaxed now, nodded, “Yes, this is Castiel!” he yelled hugging the man, “Angel, I’m glad you made it” he smiled.
Castiel, who blushed a bit in response, nodded along, “Thank you, I apologize for the misunderstanding.”

“So you really are an angel?” Bruce asked, adjusting his glasses in surprise. Castiel nodded, “Yes, sorry for breaking your.. Jarvis? My true form is not stable enough for mortal minds or inventions” he explained looking rather upset.

Tony walked over from behind the others and waved his hand, as if telling Castiel to stop talking, “It’s alright, I can fix anything, trust me” he said trying to hide his previous anger, Steve also nodded, “Yes, now that we got that all cleared up, it’s good to meet you, I’m Steve” he held out his hand for Castiel, who shook it in response.

Natasha perked up, still looking at the man intensely, “Nastasha” she said, then pointing over to Clint, who still looked shocked, “This is Clint, have you heard of us?”
Castiel shook his head, “Should I have?” he asked, and Tony looked surprised, “Seriously? The Avengers?” he tried, receiving another head shake, “Earth’s mightiest heroes?”
“No sorry, I have not heard such” Castiel said, “I think Thor was going to tell me about you before his.. Communicator broke?”

Thor who looked embarrassed at such information spoke, “Apologizes Castiel, I was unaware such a misunderstanding could take place.”

Bruce laughed, “to be honest I was expecting you to bring a nice lady, Castiel being an angel isn’t the only surprise.”

Thor looked taken aback when it looked like the others agreed, while Castiel simply looked confused, looking his vessel up and down, “lady?” he asked Thor who shrugged also confused. Castiel then turned to look at the group, “I am neither man nor woman, I hope that uh won’t be a problem?”

Bruce looked surprised and shook his head, “No no I didn’t mean it like that, uh just-” Tony elbowed him in the side, “We just didn’t expect Thor to go and find any angels or anything while we weren't looking” he said smiling at Castiel.

Thor, still red faced, smiled as well, “Well anyways um Castiel, let me show you around yes?” Castiel turned to face Thor and the two walked off leaving the less then startled avengers behind.

“-Like a puppy” was all Natasha said before heading back to the common area, leaving the boys to follow her trail.

Notes:

I'm thinking about making either another part for this where these two are introduced or a sequel with another crackship involving the Winchester brothers and one of the avengers.
