Atlantis

Summary:

“What did he mean by ‘don’t lie to me?” Gally asked. A lot of glares met him.

“Do you really think now is the time to ask that Gally?” Jorge asked sharply.

“Bad timing asshole,” Brenda groaned out.

“I don’t know what he meant, I don’t know what I did,” Thomas whispered. This was quick to catch everyone’s attention.

Work Text:

‘Cause in my heart and in my head, I’ll never take back the words I said.

The scene was on repeat in Thomas’ mind and he couldn’t stop. Newt never yelled like that before. He would never push people against walls and tell them they were lying. So why did he do it towards Thomas? Why was it him that made Newt snap? Newt was never the one to start things or engage in a fight but recently that has changed. One thing for sure is that Newt would never call anyone a liar, especially when that person is Thomas.

So high above, I feel it coming down.

Now everyone was dealing with the side effects of what had just gone down. The silence was unbearable. Newt had left almost instantly leaving behind a shaking Tommy and a confused crew. Brenda didn’t know what to do, how could they fix this? Everyone was wondering the same thing and Brenda could tell by the looks on their face.

“Thomas, are you alright?” Brenda asked carefully, slow to approach the boy who was still against the wall.

She said, in my heart and in my head.

Thomas looked at Brenda with a blank stare. “Yeah, I’m fine, just startled,” He tried shrugging off with a horribly fake laugh.

Tell me this had to end.

“It’s okay if you're not Thomas, that was scary for all of us,” Jorge chimed in.

“I’m fine okay?” Thomas snapped, ignoring the hurt on Brenda and Jorge's faces.

Neither of them could blame Thomas for his reaction. It was easy to understand, Newt never yelled at “his Tommy.” The silence returned with a vengeance and now no one knew what to say or do.

I can't save us, my Atlantis, we fall

“What did he mean by ‘don’t lie to me?” Gally asked. A lot of glares met him.

“Do you really think now is the time to ask that Gally?” Jorge asked sharply.

“Bad timing asshole,” Brenda groaned out.

“I don’t know what he meant, I don’t know what I did,” Thomas whispered. This was quick to catch everyone’s attention.

We built this town on shaky ground.

The pain in his voice was abundant. The others looked on sadly while Brenda felt her heart break for Thomas. She couldn’t imagine what Thomas was going through, she never knew what Thomas and Newt were but he could tell they were in love. Being hurt by someone you loved always hurt more.

For Thomas, he could feel his eyes sting. He could feel the way the others were staring at him. He couldn’t help but say what he had, it just slipped out of his mouth with no regard for how hard his brain tried to stop him.

I can't save us, my Atlantis, oh, no.

“I’m gonna go find him,” Thomas said, louder this time, with intention.

No one stopped him from walking out of the room. They could see the tears in his eyes, his face giving away the emotions he was feeling. Once the excuse of a door was back in the place they looked at each other solemnly. It was going to be a rough night.

We built it up to pull it down

It's in my heart and in my head, you can't take back the things you said

Thomas was looking everywhere that he thought Newt could be. There weren’t a lot of options for Newt to go, but, one thing Thomas learned is that the other was great at hiding. As soon as he felt like giving up he spotted a dash of blond hair and smiled to himself. Of course, he was by the truck. Even if Newt was angry with him Thomas could never be.

“Newt, can I come over?” Tommy asked out hesitantly.

He could hear a sigh from behind the car and had to stifle a laugh, “Yes Tommy, you can come over.”

So high above, I feel it coming down

Thomas was quick to hurry over and sit down next to the other. Once next to Newt he felt himself relax instantly; Newt always seemed to half that effect on him. The two didn’t speak for a while, simply enjoying each other’s company.

“I’m sorry Tommy,” Newt whispered, being the first to speak.

Thomas didn’t know how to respond so instead he leaned his head against the other's shoulder. Newt froze for a moment before relaxing, leaving Thomas to lean against him.

She said, in my heart and in my head

“I shouldn’t have yelled at you, or pinned you against the wall, I truly am sorry Tommy,” Newt continued on, choking up as he did.

“It’s okay Newt, I’ll always forgive you,” Thomas whispered back.

Tell me why this has to end

Newt let out a wet laugh. Thomas could feel that he was crying but he didn’t say anything. He knew Newt needed this and maybe so did he. What else could they do?

“I love you, Tommy.”

Thomas sat up and looked at Newt just to see the other looking so genuine. They both had tears in their eyes. Newt leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to Thomas’ lips that were quickly returned. The kiss was delicate, full of emotion and love. A kiss that says more words than they’re willing to speak.

“I love you too Newt.”
