His chocolate brown eyes stared into your own, a warm gaze that had always made you feel safe.
"We did it, Captain." He smiled.
It was crazy, with all the havoc caused by the wormholes and warp core, the goal of settling and providing a new home for the colonists was almost forgotten-but you had done it. You smiled and nodded before wrapping your arms around him, pressing your face into his chest.
"Whoa, little eager Captain?"
You rolled your eyes, eyelashes fluttering against the exposed skin. You had asked him to stop calling you 'Captain', but he never did. When you didn't move he pressed a kiss to the top of your head, your face twisted into a smile, and you could hear one in his voice.
He hummed as he stroked your hair, a melody you had heard a few times before, but couldn't quite place.
You were quiet for a while, content to just listen to Mark's steady breathing, but finally broke the silence with the question that had been bothering you ever since the colonists got settled.
"Mark...Do you ever feel lost?"
He paused before he turned the question back on you, saying "Do you?"
"Well...It's funny, getting the ship out the wormhole, safely landing, and settling the colonists were my only goals, and I was fixated on that alone, but now that's done, and I just feel kind of..."
He paused before humming in thought, his deep voice causing his chest to rumble against you.
"I understand how you could feel that way, but in answer to your question, no, I don't feel lost, because I'm here with you, and you are all I want."
"But-how do you know where to go with your life?"
He sighed a little at that, but you could tell he was softly smiling.
"I will go wherever it takes me, because we traveled the multiverse together and -most of the time- we made it out in one piece. If we are together, there's nothing life can throw at us that we can't handle."
He planted another kiss on your head and whispered "Now you should really get some sleep Captain, it's a big day tomorrow!"
Mark's body was warm and comfortable, and you quickly fell into a deep sleep, his strong arms keeping you grounded and safe, protecting you from any nightmares.
