Chapter Text
As their lips parted, Donatello and Y/n looked into each other’s eyes. They rested their foreheads together, and at that moment, everything the two were afraid of dissolved with the sweet spring rain. At that moment only, it was like they’d found peace in the chaos of their lives. On Y/n’s small bedroom balcony, rain poured down on them. It was a sweet moment of catharsis.
”I had no idea you felt the same,” Donnie breathed lightly, his breath fanning on Y/n’s face.
Y/n brushed his hands against the slightly shorter turtle, ”I thought you liked April,”
”I did, at first, but…,” The turtle inhaled, tangling his hands with theirs, “When I met you… things felt different with her. I could see she wasn’t interested, but I couldn’t accept I had feelings for you… so I pretended.”
”When did you know?” Y/n implored, “That you liked me, I mean?”
The purple-masked nerd chuckled bitterly, “Back when we used to take sneaky pictures of each other as a joke. I looked at the pictures I’d taken of you, I set them as my lock screen and wallpaper, even the embarrassing ones, and one day it clicked. How about you?”
“God, it must’ve been… back when we found out about Rockwell and Falco, and you got beaten up by Rockwell. I was so worried, and the thought of you getting injured or killed made me realise that maybe I did like you more than a friend,” Y/n confessed. The two stood in silence comfortably, both realising that they’d been in love for a while. Donnie moved to wrap his arms around Y/n, holding him tightly to his chest. Y/n wrapped his arms around Donnie’s shoulders, burying his face happily in Donatello’s neck.
“Do you think your family will accept us, though?” Y/n spoke finally, head still against the turtle’s neck, “My family definitely won’t, but I don’t care, I just don’t want you to lose your family,”
”They don’t have to know. I don’t think they’d disapprove as such, but they might think it’s a bad idea…” Donatello was hesitant in his words, *could they really make this work?*
”Bad idea how?”
”Well, with how traditional Sensei is, I don’t know if he’d consider it normal per se,” Donnie explained grimly, “Not to mention he might just disprove of us dating, especially with the Kraang and Shredder being around… It’s just not the right place for a relationship. I can imagine Leo taking Splinter’s side on that. As for Raph and Mikey, I don’t know if they’d really take me all that seriously anymore, they’d probably mock us,”
”Won’t they notice?” Y/n’s grip loosened, despairing at their situation. The rain had grown heavier, yet the two were so absorbed in each other that they refused to go inside. Besides, they could speak freely under the blanket of muffling rain. Y/n breathed, “I mean, there’s a line between close friends and what we have,”
”We can just act like we’re just close friends,” Donnie suggested, lifting Y/n’s chin from the floor with his finger, “I could keep up the April thing to throw them off. That is unless you’re uncomfortable with me keeping that up- which I wouldn’t blame you for-”
”No, no… I think you’re right, that might be our best shot,” Y/n sighed, leaning into the soft touch. ”We can make this work, I promise,” Donnie uttered softly, leaning in to kiss his partner again.
