Work Text:
Sasha often stopped by while Anne was working, usually with little gifts, a smug look, and way too much confidence.
Anne was giving a quick tour to a few little kids when Sasha came barging in, two cups of steaming coffee in her hands, greeting Anne with a wine.
"Waybright." Anne said.
"Boonchuy," Sasha gives Anne a cup of coffee. It's almost too hot to hold. "Looking good."
Anne frowned.
Did she hear that right?
"I'm sorry?"
Sasha was no longer smiling. Now she was red in the face, quickly becoming a stuttering mess.
"Uh- enjoy your coffee! Or don't. I don't care. Have a terrible day!"
Sasha left in a hurry.
Anne watched her leave, holding her coffee tightly as she drank.
One of the kids, a doey eyed little girl, tugged at Anne's sleeve, stealing her attention away from the door, where Sasha disappeared.
"Yes?"
"Was that your girlfriend?"
Anne's face warmed. She drank the rest of her coffee, saving herself from answering. She didn't care how it burnt her throat.
"Okay kids! Where did we leave off?"
Anne was cleaning up for the night when Sasha stopped by again, a little clear bag of chocolate truffles in her hands.
Anne greeted her friend with a hug.
When she tried to pull away, Sasha remained holding her tightly. The embrace made Anne feel warm and giddy.
"Uh. Sash?"
"Do you want to go out with me tomorrow?" Sasha asked, her voice a low whisper.
Anne's stomach swooped.
"Are you asking me on a date?"
She felt Sasha tense up before she pulled away, fave reddening once again, holding the bag of truffles out in front of her face while muttering something under her breath Anne didn't catch.
"Sash?"
"Anyway uh. Hope you like the truffles. They're from the store."
"I-okay?"
Sasha slapped her hand against her forehead, groaning.
"Are you okay?"
Sasha's face was now hidden behind her hands, muttering something over and over. Anne felt bad.
"Thanks for the truffles," she said, hoping that would snap her friend out of her stupor.
Sasha looked up at Anne between her fingers sheepishly. She was such an idiot sometimes, and it made Anne really want to kiss her.
She wondered if Sasha would turn even redder if she kissed her. At the thought, her stomach swooped, butterflies now fluttering up in her chest.
She clenched the bag of truffles, it crinkled under her shaky, tight grip. She resisted the urge.
"I love chocolate." Sasha said intelligently. "That's why I bought them."
"I thought you bought them for me."
Sasha bit her lip. She shoved her hands in her jean pockets, her gaze now fixed firmly on the ground.
"Forget I said that. Um." She said smoothly.
Anne laughed and grabbed Sasha's hand, kissing her on the cheek, close to the corner of her nose.
When she lulled back, she worried Sasha was going to collapse.
"You okay."
"Kiss. Real." Sasha blurted.
Anne snorted, amused. Sasha's nervousness was more endearing than she would ever admit out loud.
"What?"
Sasha blinked.
"Give me real kiss." Sasha said. Anne was proud of her. She didn't stutter. Her voice somehow remained steady. Confident.
Anne leaned closer, only by a hair, and said, with a smug grin. "Try again tomorrow."
Sasha looked stunned. Only briefly, then she laughed. "Is that a challenge."
"Sure is, Waybright."
"Then, I accept, Boonchuy."
