Work Text:

Dream slammed his hands down on his desk, already stressing out over the video he was editing. It was easier said than done. Nothing was lining up the way he wanted it to, making Dream lose his mind.

“Dada?”, George asked, shuffling into Dream’s room. Dream spun around in his chair, smiling at the Little.

“Hi, bud, whatcha up to?”, he asked. George toddled over to Dream and got on his lap. “How’d you get up here, you’re supposed to be downstairs playing with your brothers.” George shrugged.

“Misseded you”, George replied. “Wha’ doin’?” Dream bounced George lightly.

“I am editing”, he said. “Which I should get back to, and you should get back downstairs, I thought you knew better than to climb up the stairs by yourself.” George whined. Before Dream could say anything else, Karl came bounding into Dream’s room.

“Dweam! Wook at wha’ Daddy got me!”, Karl exclaimed, holding up his new kitty money box. Of course, it was no surprise to Dream, Sapnap had talked to him about getting Karl one of those because he’d been begging him for one ever since he saw one in the store.

“Wow! That’s very nice, buddy”, Dream replied. “Why aren’t you downstairs with Punzo?” Karl set the money box down on Dream’s desk.

“He makin’ wunch wif Daddy”, Karl said. “What doin’?” Dream sighed.

“I’m editing”, he replied. “Now I would appreciate it if you guys-”

“Boys! Lunchtime!”, Sapnap shouted from the kitchen. Dream sighed in relief. Karl grinned as George hopped off of Dream’s lap and grabbed Karl’s hand. Dream turned back around in his chair as the two boys helped each other down the stairs.

Dream continued trying to edit until he had enough. He felt like nothing was being accomplished like he wanted it to, he got so frustrated he threw something at the wall.

Unfortunately, the only thing that was closest to him was Karl’s kitty money box. As soon as he heard the plastic hit the wall, he knew he messed it. It must’ve been cheaply made, because once it came into contact with the wall, the walls of the box completely fell off.

Downstairs, Sapnap heard the loud noise and rushed up the stairs to Dream’s room. Sapnap looked over at Dream, the older boy was biting his fist, trying not to let tears spill down his cheeks.

“What happened?!”, Sapnap asked. Dream shakily pointed to the broken object on the floor. “Clay, what happened?” Dream fell to the floor and tried to salvage the pieces.

“I can fix it”, he replied. “I can fix it!” The three Littles were concerned when Sapnap ran up the stairs, so with Karl’s help, the Littles got up the stairs and went to Dream’s room.

“Dweam?”, Karl asked, looking at the taller man. “Wha’ happen?” Dream frowned as he held the broken money box in his hand. Karl teared up when he realized that his new toy was broken. Karl let go of George’s hand and ran to his bedroom, shutting the door. Karl burst into tears once he was on his bed, not bothering to stop his tears when Punz jumped up on the bed and wrapped his arms around Karl in an attempt to help him.

“I didn’t mean to throw it”, Dream said, shedding a few tears as he tried his best to reassemble the money box. “I was just getting overwhelmed with my video, and nothing is fixing itself like it usually does, and-” Dream stoppe rambling when he felt two small arms wrap around him from behind. George. Dream sniffled softly.

“Listen, whatever caused you to throw it, we can always buy him a new one”, Sapnap said. “Do you think you need to take a little break from editing, maybe you’re a little too brainrot on that video.” Dream shrugged and pulled George on his lap.

“Do you think Karl’s mad at me?”, he asked softly. Sapnap took the little plastic pieces and put them in the garbage.

“He’s mad that his new toy got broken”, he said. “I’m sure if we give him some time to calm down, he’ll be okay. Plus, we can try to explain that we can get him a new kitty money box.” George shifted on Dream’s lap and wrapped his arms around him. “Do you want some lunch?”

“If you’re offering”, Dream replied, standing up and hoisting George up onto his hip. The three boys walked down the stairs to the kitchen. Upstairs in his room, Karl eventually stopped crying and wiped his eyes.

“Kawl otay?”, Punz asked softly. Karl sniffled again and nodded.

“‘m otay, ‘unzo”, Karl replied. “Go fin’ Daddy?” Punz nodded.

“Go fin’ Papa”, he agreed. Karl got off the bed and helped Punz as both Littles went down the stairs after they didn’t see anyone in Dream’s room. “Papa?!”

“In the kitchen, Punzo!”, Sapnap shouted from the kitchen. Sapnap smiled as both Littles came in the kitchen. “Hey, Karl. You feeling a little better?” Karl nodded and looked cautiously over at Dream. The taller boy wiped his mouth and hands on a napkin.

“Karl, I need to apologize”, Dream said. “I didn’t mean to break your new toy.” Karl fidgeted with his fingers.

“‘s otay, Dweam”, he replied, going over to him and wrapping his arms around him. Dream waited a while to hug him back out of pure shock, but eventually returned the hug. “I over’acted.”

“No, no, sweetheart”, Dream said. “You didn’t overreact, those feelings you had were completely valid.”

“Karl, you know we can always buy you a new money box, right?”, Sapnap asked. Karl looked over at him with wide eyes.

“Weawy?”, he replied. “Ge’ new one p’ease?” Sapnap nodded and ruffled Karl’s hair softly.

“Of course we can, bud”, Sapnap said. “And we have to make sure to never leave it with Uncle Dream when he’s editing a video.”

“Ha ha”, Dream replied. “Screw you.” George gasped lightly. “Sorry, that was rude of me, kindly shut your mouth, Nick.” Sapnap laughed as Dream attempted to throw a napkin at him. “Think we should go to the store and get another kitty money right now.” Karl’s face lit up.

“Can we?!”, he exclaimed.

“We can if the other boys want to”, Sapnap said. Dream shrugged.

“Or I could just take Karl and you could watch George and Punzo?”, he suggested. Karl nodded vigorously.

“That works”, Sapnap replied. Karl smiled.

“Great”, Dream replied, throwing away his plate. “Ready Karl?” Karl nodded and practically bounced out to the car happily.

“Now what are we going to do?”, Sapnap asked the two remaining Littles.
